Product Description

Charlie Wilkins, wet or dry, is the best travel writer in the country. — Joe Fiorito, Toronto Star

Rarely have I been so drop-jaw riveted by a book, so won over by a writer's chops and heart, so happy to be dry. — Mary Roach, author of Stiff and Gulp

Infused with wit, charm, and a sense of wonder, the playful but epic tale stands as a testament to the human spirit stripped bare by the power of nature. — Booklist

"An inspiring read and a great adventure tale." —The Library Journal

Book was chosen by a member of one of my book clubs. My husband who likes this sort of thing only got to chapter 4 and gave it up. I am about 5/8ths of the way through would not have gotten past the first chapter. It is only out of respect for my friend that I am finishing it.

HASH(0x96d6b960) out of 5 stars what an adventure! crazy ! Nov. 10 2013
By P. Ling - Published on

Told as a human journey and felt I was right there along the timeline.
Much enjoyed !
What would have added to the excitement was to have shown pictures of the boat at the beginning instead of the appendix (and in colour) - would have been closer to the action !
Would have been nice for the trip to have not been a race so they could have stopped and soaked in the surrounding sea life more, and what the ocean environment was more like !
Congrats on a tale that is part of you forever...
HASH(0x96d6be28) out of 5 stars an amazing saga of the sea March 25 2014

The sea can be a terrifying place and to row that distance as these folks did makes for an interesting story. Additionally, the author skillfully weaves into the narrative the interpersonal incidents that provide real insight into human nature. Wonderful book.
HASH(0x96d6bdec) out of 5 stars More than just an adventure book... Oct. 15 2014

Not only is this an honest account of a fairly exciting adventure, it's the author's little gems of wisdom throughout the book that make this a really satisfying read. Highly recommended.
