Previously Enjoyed & Fully Guaranteed

Twelve years after Die Hard with a Vengeance, the third and previous film in the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard finds John McClane (Bruce Willis) a few years older, not any happier, and just as kick-ass as ever. Right after he has a fight with his college-age daughter (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a call comes in to pick up a hacker (Justin Long, a.k.a. the ""Apple guy"") who might help the FBI learn something about a brief security blip in their systems. Now any Die Hard fan knows that this is when the assassins with foreign accents and high-powered weaponry show up, telling McClane that once again he's stumbled into an assignment that's anything but routine. Once that wreckage has cleared, it is revealed that the hacker is only one of many hackers who are being targeted for extermination after they helped set up a ""fire sale,"" a three-pronged cyberattack designed to bring down the entire country by crippling its transportation, finances, and utilities. That plan is now being put into action by a mysterious team (Timothy Olyphant, Deadwood, and Maggie Q, Mission: Impossible 3) that seems to be operating under the government's noses. --This text refers to the Blu-ray edition.

John McClane is back and he's gone digital...

Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) is trying to scare America. He is a virtual terrorist... or so it seems. He is actually setting up a very elaborate scheme that involves quite a lot of very expendable computer hackers just to cover up the fact that he wants to steal some cash. When this little fact becomes known, you fully realise that you are watching a Die Hard Movie.

Live Free or Die Hard is the fourth installment in arguably the best action movie franchise ever seen and Die Hard 4.0 does not disappoint. It is full of the ingredients that we have come to love about the Die Hard movies. You have very intelligent, well-dressed, charismatic bad guys, John McClane getting more beat up and dirty as the film progresses (his distinctive white muscle vest is missing this time round) and thieves posing as terrorists. All of this is fairly familiar ground for the Die Hard movies; however, at no time does it seem unoriginal or clichéd, instead making you feel a little bit nostalgic as you enjoy the watching the unbelievable stunts interlaced with the odd sarcastic comments from the man himself, John McClane and his particularly sassy daughter.

There is the odd nod to the other Die Hard movies to keep the movie geeks happy. You have a Special Agent Johnson, (no relation), a brilliant cameo from Kevin Smith, and a couple of very obvious Star Wars references.

In short, Die Hard 4.0 is funny, action packed and has moved with the times. John McClane has never let us down...

By T. Skylar TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on Nov. 20 2007
Format: DVD
Its been 12 years since 1995's Die Hard 3:Die Hard With A Vengeance, the fourth Die Hard movie "Live Free Or Die Hard" comes out after all that time.12 years separate these two movies and that made some fans nervous about this fourth Die Hard, still Bruce Willis said that if he receved a good script for a fourth movie he might just play the part of John McClane once again. Most fans tought that would never happen but it did and in June 2007,"Live Free Or Die Hard" was released in movie theatres. After all those years since the last movie,is the fourth Die Hard movie really worth seing? Can Bruce Willis still handle the role of John McClane?

The answer to both question is "yes!" and this new Die Hard movie does a fantastic job of incorporating a classic movie franchise into our actual decade and time.Something that few classic franchises have been able to do as of now.You can tell right way that movie is "current",because the technology, computers and all and they did make John McClane look older for this movie and he has moved on with his life as well he hasn't stayed the exact same person. Its mostly an action movie in the style of the other Die Hard films but this time around there is some humor in it.It is a great addition to the Die Hard series and a damn good one too!Its definatly not a cash cow,its true to the franchise.

The storyline is captivating enough so that even people who have never heard of or seen any of the Die Hard movies can like it enough to appreciate what a good movie "Live Free Or Die Hard" is.The movie starts with the attack of what could be called cyber-terrorists and hackers on the U.S. Infrastructure that sets the path for John McClane to come in action. He quickly meets Matthew Farrell a young hacker who he thinks can help him.

this ,the 4th installment of the Die hard franchise is easily the most
thrilling and action packed.however, logic and reality are thrown out
the window for the action scenes.if you like your action with a little
bit of realty and logic, you won't like this movie.but for me,the movie
was so fun,i didn't care.but beyond being just a slam bang action
thrill ride it's also very relevant and thought provoking.if the
technology that society almost totally depend on were to completely
crash, how would you react, and hoe would the general public react.this
movie gives one hypothetical example of the answer to that's great to see this installment is geared more towards our
techno savvy contemporary audience.but it's also still great for
audiences that grew up with the franchise. not only is this a thrilling
and thought provoking movie, but it's also very funny, possibly the
funniest of all four movies.for me,Live Free or Die Hard is a perfect
5/5 for sheer excitement alone.the rest is just gravy.

The fourth installment of the franchise is a great action film for any fan of the genre. There's plenty in there for both the newcomer to the series and for those that have been there from the start. There are all the usual clichés and plot holes and the like, but that should be expected for this style of film. The film would be rated a five star, but I deducted a star on this review because I'm reviewing the WS Unrated DVD product, too. The reason follows.

The version of the WS Unrated DVD (single disc) sold on does not have the Music Video: "Die Hard" Performed by Guyz Nite, nor the Behind the Scenes with Guyz Nite Featurette (which are both listed on the back of the DVD case). It also does not include the trailers listed on the official site for the DVD (other than the Die Hard Collection trailer) but does have the commentary. If you are like me, you may spend a lot of time moving through the menus to see if there was something you missed. Don't look, it's not there. If you think you are going to get any extras other than the commentary, you will not. The DVD contains that, the theatrical and unrated versions of the movie and the single Die Hard Collection trailer. Either there are multiple versions of the WS Unrated DVD out there, or they made a change after the initial release and cut out a bunch of the extras for subsequent printings. I thought it would be nice to warn other purchasers of this, so I hope it helps. There's always the Collector's Edition for die-hard fans. ;)
