“This is going to be difficult for you to understand but it’s going to be even harder for you to believe. I do not even know where to begin, but you need to at least know the basics. Fairytales are real, monsters are real. Everything you’ve ever heard about magic, mythical creatures, and the supernatural is all true. It exists in a world beyond the one you see out your window, and it’s where your parents came from. It’s where you came from and we need you to come back.” When Nero Cassidy first heard these words, he could not believe his ears. After all, he was a normal teenager living in a normal city in America. But after only one week from hearing these words, Nero had battled nightmarish creatures, had befriended a little girl with the ability to appear and disappear at will, and had nearly been eaten by a carnivorous flower. It was enough for him to know that the yellow-eyed man, Soto, had not been lying. Now Nero just hopes that Soto is mistaken about everything else, because if Soto is correct and Nero is the “Living Light,” Nero's path will never be normal again.

Straight forward depictions of some complex characters. Characters that can be identified with. A story line that twists but never loses the reader. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Smooth style

The book is quite well-written and in general manages to hold the reader's interest. I only give three stars because the theme, that favourite male adolescent fantasy of being born Chosen and Special and destined to save the world - has been done a bit too often. Also, why is ist always warriors that have to save the world? Why not do it through exceptional brains and creativity for a change? (Of course the author is a soldier himself.)

4 + Star Surprise!

Every once in a blue moon (or so it seems to me), one accidently comes across a real jewel buried in the (mostly) mediocre pile of Kindle eBooks. This, I'm pleased to say, is one of those jewels.
This book is one that any age group can enjoy. It was well written, well edited, and had plenty of good characters in an action packed plot. I wonder why it hasn't been snatched up yet by a real publisher.
The only thing keeping it from an even higher rating IMO is simply because there were no big 'surprises' in the storyline (at least not yet).
Plenty of the usual dragons, dwarves, pixies, elemental gods, trolls, sorcerers, etc. Teen boy finds out the hard way that his life and the world is not what he always believed it was. Common premise but still nicely presented.
I was lucky enough to grab this book a couple of months ago when it was offered for free, but it is also well worth the asking price. Because I can honestly say that if the second book was available, I'd buy it right now even though I still have many books downloaded that I haven't read yet--I really enjoyed it.

A great read!

This is a great book for anyone. It has magic, pieces of fairy tales, monsters, coming of age, gods, etc. I think anyone who enjoys an adventure will enjoy this book.
You start on earth with a seemingly normal boy living a seemingly normal life and then start on an adventure that takes you to another dimension to learn that magic and all the fairy tales you ever heard are real, but in the way they are told.
The book author gets you right into the story which moves quickly and keeps you engaged and wanting more. I was disappointed at the ending, but then found out there is a second one coming so that makes the ending acceptable and excited for the next one.

Nancarrow, you have an excellent talent and told your story superbly. This book is a great addition for any fans of the fantasy genre. Nancarrow has an original and refreshing voice that flows smoothly throughout the book and weaves a classic tale in a new light. Definitely a must read for anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre and for those who are looking for a good book. I look forward to the upcoming sequel as this is no doubt an introduction to the Knight of Ages epic saga.
