Product Description

Linda Ferguson loves to explore the way our words shape our lives. For more than ten years, she has been a Senior Partner at NLP Canada Training. Her work there is to build a community of practice where curious people come to explore, connect, and make change happen. People come back year after year to hear new stories and refresh their curiosity about making lives better and influence stronger.

Our training brings out the smart in people. Our certifications are so engaging, surprising and practical that people find they are more capable than they thought. They walk out from training and into a vibrant world of possibility. We stay current with developments in NLP and with evidence-based practice in related fields including solution focused coaching and positive psychology. Our training is always evolving to encompass new learning and new opportunities.

Linda Ferguson holds a doctorate from the University of Toronto in English Literature. She loves the way rhythm, images and tone shape the way we talk to one another and the way talk changes us. She loves telling stories almost as much as she loves listening to them.

I have read a lot of books on NLP. There isn't one that hasn't been useful in some small way. The reason for this is because NLP, as a process of techniques, strategies, and mind sets, is extremely useful in getting short- and long-term change. The issue with a lot of NLP books is that, because NLP itself is so useful and synthesizes so many different modalities and skillsets, they become overlong with techniques and jargon. Need a cure for this problem? Try this edit. Have a phobia of dust motes? Try this edit. The books become all you can eat buffet, when really all you want is a well cooked, mindfully- prepared meal. You want stuff that lingers in your memory, not sticks for a short while in your gut.

What Linda Ferguson does with Living Your Purpose is she gets to what is most essential in NLP, why it is most essential, and how this essence will improve your life in small and large ways. The book is less that 150 pages and written in a compassionate, simple voice that flows between friendly advice and academic rigor. You feel like you're having a warm cup of coffee with someone you just met on campus who you trust instinctively, while listening to an old jazz record with a view of the woods through a nearby window.
Ferguson doesn't overwhelm with a million different how-tos and shalt-nots. She introduces what works best in NLP and trusts that once you integrate why it works so well (hint: her rationale for everything is backed by research in neurology, among other disciplines), that you will take the core lessons and practice them.

She ties the practice of NLP to the reason why any of us read self-help books: to figure out who we are and what we are made, in our journey towards fulfilling our dreams.

I have been studying NLP for a few years and joined NLP Canada Training about 2 years ago. This book by far is the best I have read on the subject of NLP and I have read quite a few now. It's not only a fun book to read, but I found it extremely easy to put the things I learned from it into practice on a daily basis, which is not something I can say for some of the other books. I highly recommend this to anyone studying NLP on their own, taking courses in it or are already practicing coaches.
