All the other functionality of the mouse is great. It slides very smoothly on its four skates; the laser is very precise and tracks my movements very well even on my cheap cloth mouse pad; the buttons click smoothly and without hesitation; and the scroll wheel moves well in either mode. I love the two side buttons, which default to page forward and page back in my web browser. The wheel clicks down to act as an additional primary mouse button, and you can tilt it side to side (not many programs recognize this functionality though).
One other nice thing about this mouse is that you no longer need to install Logitech's driver software. The mouse works as soon as you plug it in (at least with all newer version of Windows and Mac OS according to Logitech). I'm using Windows 10, and it has worked great from the moment I plugged it in.
The size of the mouse is great. I share my computer with my young son, and both of us find the mouse quite comfortable in our small hands. We are both able to reach all the buttons and click them without a struggle.
I'm happy with this mouse over all. I just wish it didn't have the scroll wheel mode button. Otherwise, it is just great and exactly what I was looking for.
The shipping was fast from Amazon and packaging was sufficient.
Opening the box immediately noticed that the mouse didn't look new, the "rubber" sides of the mouse looked roughed up and scuffed, giving it a distinctly "USED" look. The "rubber" grip scroll wheel was also pinched in one section, very slightly, but visibly. This is barely perceptible when touching the wheel though. The rest looked and felt new including the mouse "skates" at the bottom which the mouse slides with and the cord, which was very neatly folded up. The mouse is advertised as "NEW" on Amazon, and it is probably just the quality of rubber or manufacturing process which scuffs up the sides.
Speaking of the rubber, it is actually LATEX, which if you are allergic to it, you will quickly realize.
The mouse performs well, it worked only seconds after plugging it into my computer's USB slot. The mouse buttons have a louder audible click to it than the G700s beside it, and clicks feels lighter and a bit more "plastic-y" than the other mouse; lending a cheaper feel. The mouse slides feels a bit more scratchy compared to the G700s and my Thermaltake mouse (also sitting beside it).
Personally I like a heavy mouse, but the weight of this mouse, while lighter than my other mice at home, feels heavier than the standard out-of-the-box OEM mouse. The hyper-fast scroll wheel works very well, albeit slightly lighter and cheaper feel than the G700s. The wheel tilt feels a little bit loose and perhaps difficult to control, but I haven't had a chance to test this completely.
If I am being hard on this mouse, it's only because I had high expectations from it because of its older brother the G700s, which costs twice the price. It also feels smaller in my hand. I don't have large hands, and the G700s originally took some getting used to. The M500 profile is lower and fits my hand more easily.
The mouse movement feel solid and precise. The plastic, especially over the two main mouse buttons, feels smooth and comfortable. The two side buttons are glossy and feel a bit slippery. This a very serviceable mouse and feels much more solid than the typical office mouse. If you're a fan of the hyper-fast scroll wheel function, this is a reasonably affordable option with that feature.
I work from home often and do CAD work so I need something smooth and comfortable. Check and check.
I'm thinking a getting another one for the office. Really comfortable for my large hand; interesting option be able to toggle the scroll wheel to be smooth or with clicks.
Front and back buttons are both on the left side of the mouse, and i prefer that over one on left and other on right side.
I have a rather large hand and don't have very long fingers, but the mouse fits well in my hand and is comfortable to use during all the day (I use it for software development)
I initially found it annoying the wheel had no stop, then realized the little button was used to toggle the stops on and off, which I find nice to use, so I use the stops to scroll through text, and set it off to scroll though images or long web pages.
Aside from the middle button issue, the mouse works fine.
