    Update May 6 2016:

I did get a new set from Amazon, since i wanted to give these speakers another shot, and I am glad I did. I have had the new set for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. The bass unit is going strong and the speakers do the job.

I change my review from 1 star to 5 stars, because the combo between the speakers and the bass unit is very well balanced and the output is generously loud, clear and as per expectations.

Some of the cables could be longer, but i am not taking a star away for it.

    Original Review:

They were great for the 2 minutes they lasted.

I was playing the Star Wars Overture from the BBC Symphony Orchestra when a big popping noise came out and just spitted distortion after that.

I used my desktop and after resetting the speaker system (on and off) a few times, it still was playing the same distorted music.

I put everything back in the box and returned to Amazon without doing further troubleshooting. Maybe the speakers themselves are not busted, maybe it was just an internal fuse/breaker thing, but i did not troubleshoot anymore since I wanted them to replace my Bose Companion 20 system and if i have issue at the first get go, then i do not bother.

I have bought this system about two weeks ago to replace my Logitech z506 5.1 surround system. The z506 wasn't bad per say. The mids and the highs were definitely there. the 3D stereo actually works and gives you an immersive feel especially when you are watching movies. Even with the one green input wire.
Notwithstanding its awesome qualities in movies, i think something was missing. It was when i used it to play hip hop is where i found the fault. according to the specs of the z506 it has a low frequency of 45 htz. playing hip hop reggae and dancehall etc, it just didn't hit the lows i needed to hear to compliment the awesome mids and high. (my logitech z313 produces even deeper lows and it was 48 htz)
It was at that point i decided i am going to need something more powerful in terms of the lows without sacrificing the mids and the highs.
i read the reviews of the z623 and think it was a great replacement. I was however hesitant because it is a 2.1 setup and i didn't know if it will give you that balanced immersive sound i needed for my movies and music. I decided to give it a try.
If i should tell you i didn't make a mistake i would be making an understatement. first of all the lows on the z623 is soo low and warm. i actually did a frequency test on youtube. the sub actually hit a low of 25 htz.. though it is not well defined it is when it reaches 30 htz it when i could hear my roof vibrating :).WOW!!
Now to the highs and mids. I never knew two speakers could actually create an immersive sound. If i should tell you that these 2 THX certified speakers produces even more richer convincing immersive sound then the z506 you wouldn't believe me!! The audio is so clear the highs are even better than that of the z 506.
This z623 is a real winner and shines in music and movies and i would encourage anyone wanting high quality speakers that produces balanced sound to go grab the z623! It is worth your every penny!!

I'm writing this review more as a "buyer beware" Well sort of! I purchased more than one set of the speakers. Two pairs from Staples initially that both have the high-pitched noise coming from them. Another set from Best Buy with the same problem! I eliminated all possible interference and even unplugged them from external sources. Just powered from different outlets in our home still producing the high pitch. It isn't loud but not hard to tell it's there. We even tried these in a different house and produces the same thing!

However these speakers do have a great sound quality! By turning up the volume music sounds great, as do games and movies. The high-pitched noise is mostly inaudible when listening to something with lots of action. Even quiet parts of a song or movie is not that bad. They deliver plenty of volume and anything past 50% will shake your room!

Concluding this brief review, I must say that for the money you get a lot of great sound and power! But for speakers such as these "THX certified" I should not be hearing any high-pitched noises! I wish I could have purchased a pair of these without the noise. I was thinking of buying a set through Amazon, but isn't worth it if I have the same problem. The question is how long will they last? Is it something that is faulty? I would be fine and live with it if I knew there isn't a problem with the hardware.

I don't think 3 stars is overly generous because they do sound great! If the high pitched noise was gone, I would be happy to leave 5 stars!

Very high pitched sound coming from both speakers, with the main speaker pod being much louder. The sound comes whenever the set is powered on, and it seemed like I could not make them disappear or reduce them. I've only realized after purchasing them that many customers of these Logitech speakers have experienced the same problems, this problem has made me not want to listen to music with these speakers, despite of the fact that they seem to have been made with very high quality and seemed at the time like a good purchase. This is very unfortunate and I am not happy with this purchase. I will be in contact with Amazon to get them returned/exchanged for good ones this week.
