My trip to New Orleans this week was without a doubt my best road trip ever. This guide made it possible. Having only been to New Orleans three times, I was concerned about being able to fill four days with events other than sleeping off the previous night's madness. This book enabled me to drag myself and my friends around town like a native. I cannot recommend this book enough (or the Chicken Roulade Tchoupitoulas at K-Pauls, also 5 stars)!!

I have long been a fan of Lonly Planet and this book helps me continue the trend. With this invaluable guidebook, we selected our transportation from the airport, hotel, and must see, do and eat lists. Everything was great! Information is presented in a clear, concise and HONEST way. We knew where to go and what to skip. The book is durable and easy to tote around. A must!

Of all the tour books I hauled with me to the great city of New Orleans, this was the best. Detailed mapping of the city especially the French Quarter. It tells you the truth of where to go and not to go and where you can get a decent cheap meal but it also tells you where to go when you want to wine and dine. It tells you fascinating details of the city and the best haunts of the city and places that you are best missing but it tells you why in great detail. And it tells you of it's famous residents from Anne Rice to Tennessee Williams. I couldn't survive without this book! It is a must have for anybody going to New Orleans!

HASH(0xa0217de0) out of 5 stars Good travel guide with lots of ideas, including pull out map. Sept. 29 2013
By University Doc - Published on Amazon.com

This is one of five travel guides I purchased at the same trip for a trip to New Orleans and return trips. (Others I purchased were the Rough guide, Eyewitness Travel Guide, Frommer's and Fodor's: See separate reviews for each.) This is a nice travel guide that is all about New Orleans with some illustrations, a few color photographs and maps, including a fold out pull out map of the city. It gives you a nice assortment of ideas for expanded day trips and excursions with a taste of the Cajun Country. It provides a background and history of New Orleans. There is a chapter about Mardi Gras. The book is broken down into neighborhoods, shopping, eating, drinking and nightlife, the arts, sleeping and transportation. Websites for all are included. The book is broken into areas and neighborhoods for the city of New Orleans.
Overall, I'm not a real big fan of the Lonely Planet Travel guides, though this is a great tour guide to take with you on your trip to New Orleans, whether it is your first time or second. I have no hesitation in recommending this one. Only qualm I have about this guide in that no ratings are available, as found in Frommer's or Fodor's travel guides.
