I am a longtime fan of the Longarm series and I have lost count of the number of these adult westerns I have read over the years. I just finished reading this book (Longarm #352 and the Pine Box Payoff) and found it to be a fantastic read. This western tale begins literally with a bang as Custis Long, Federal Deputy Marshal, (known far and wide by friend and foe as Longarm) is in a shootout with some murdering owl hoots.
Like all good writers of fiction, the first chapter hooks you and keeps you turning the pages. Longarm was assigned to track down and arrest a woman who has many names and who after shacking up with rich men she steals their money and takes off. The only reason Longarm’s boss, Billy Vail, Federal Marshal has assigned this case to Custis is because an influential politician was also victimized by this unknown woman.
I never like to give away too much information when reviewing a novel because it spoils it for the reader. Like most of the Longarm novels this one has a lot of action to keep you turning the pages. There are many twists and turns, fights and shoot-outs with thugs. The second half of this book is almost non-stop action.
If you are a Longarm fan you will love this western tale.
