HASH(0x9eebe510) out of 5 stars A finer book of Photography is hard to find Jan. 28 2015
By Love Thy Enemy - Published on
Format: Paperback
feel the magic of the Loon in this eloquently silent collection of natural portraits from the wild.

The full life cycle of the Loon, this totemic, aquatic avian, comes beautifully and revealingly into our safe viewing, from the emergence from an egg through the maturation and adult life.

The photographs are truly so highly evocative of the peaceful settings that you will wish they were much larger, to live with and watch, unmoving, calling us to peace with a hollow, mournful long low hoot.

Feel the power of Mother Nature in each photo; relive these places and times, which are so quickly destroyed forever. Preserve our species memory with this collection of photographs taken at great pans with utmost care. The photographs in particular of this mighty bird slicing through silent waters, brings great peace and joy to a weary heart. Take your time inside this book, for we may never pass this way again.

As if the photos in themselves are not enough, the text comprehensively relates this avian life and the delicate, endangered, shrinking ecosystem it requires. Filled with authoritative and evocative quotes, the text studies this life stage by stage profoundly as well as any book upon this unique topic. The preface by Sigurd Olson is equally powerful and informative and well written.

As a photographer mainly of urban topics and creatures of the city of Ciudad Juarez, downtown, and not ever of Nature, I repeat these photos by Woody Hagge are matched in their silent beauty by the delicate technique which creates them, highly skilled technique which requires greatest care and equipment and resolute access to the sites.Page fifty one alone is something to enlarge to wall size and view every day, each morning, every evening for as long as you possibly can. And yet there are over 161 pages here, nearly all with images equally exquisite.

Find a copy of this precious book, a bargain, and keep it and get others for all who know you and ineluctably will steal it from you.

HASH(0x9eebe99c) out of 5 stars Loon Magic Aug. 29 2011

Because I live in northern Wisconsin, loons have always been a part of my life. They were just always there but I never knew much about them. Finding Mr. Klein's book at the home of a friend was a wonderful event and I knew I wanted my own copy. It is masterfully researched and written for "loon people" and is not unduly cluttered with scientific phrases. Mr. Klein could be sitting in my living room talking to me! Obviously he loves his subject. I love the book and love the loons more for having read it.

HASH(0x9eebe984) out of 5 stars Helpful and fascinating Sept. 20 2012

If you love loons, and have the good fortune of watching them, then you have many questions: this book answers so many of those questions plus provides you with many more insights. I gave away my original book to a neighbor, and this was it's replacement. Couldn't be happier that the book can still be found.
