HASH(0xa7b6809c) out of 5 stars Hot Pirates, assumed identity and lust! Oct. 19 2012
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Eve Upshall has had it hard, falsely accused she landed in prison. When she does manage to get a way out the ship she is on runs aground on the coral outside of Bermuda (Devil Isle before the British renamed it) when she jumps into the ocean to save her friend she is soon surrounded by sharks. All of this is bad but worse is being rescued by the sexy Captain Nicholas Scott, who was on his way to claim the wreck as salvage when he takes notice of the three young women about to be attacked by sharks.

Nicholas Scott loves women, but they are to stay firmly in the mistress category after being betrayed by his wife who while dying admits to an affair with his then friend. Everyone on Devil Isle looks to Nick as the Lord of the island and he feels a responsible for them. He like to portray himself as a tough pirate but he really is just a wounded soul in need of the love of a good woman who can also put him in his place.

After Nick rescues Eve and her friends he puts them up in his house and commits to finding them husbands, as they were traveling to the Colonies to meet husbands and now because of the storm and ship wreck Eve's friends have no desire to go anyplace on a boat again. Nick is convinced he can make Eve his mistress, Eve doesn't want to be anyone's mistress or wife on Devil Isle, she wants to go to Richmond to find her family that is living there.

This is an extremely fun book with Eve trying to come off as a lady but having the mouth of a sailor and Nick who is always trying to be the big bad pirate when really he is a nice guy (mostly) This story has steamy sex scenes, pirate rivalry, verbal sparing between the hero and the heroine as well as the side stories of Éve's friends and traveling companions, the American revolution and even a cold blooded murder or two.

Well written, sexy and hot without being smutty, funny, heartwarming and a wonderful adventure. A five star book all the way around!

HASH(0xa7b68bdc) out of 5 stars Gets the job done but not the best by far July 23 2010

Format: Mass Market Paperback
I've read several of Ms. Mason's books and this one caught me a bit off guard. At it's core it's a good, standard romance. Fairly predictable. A couple of things bothered me about it though. For starters, I don't know if Ms. Mason just discovered the c word for the male anatomy or what but it was GROSSLY overused. I also might add, a major buzzkill. I've read enough romance novels to know that there are plenty of other synonyms for the male anatomy that don't conjure up images of a brutish man. The other major thing that bothered me (and I noticed this much more up front) - WAY too many references to being about sex. The ocean, the boat, you name it. It got me a little nauseous, frankly. Once you get past these two flaws, there is a decent story there at its core. It seems a bit rushed towards the end but it did get the job done. It was as satisfying enough romance.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down and I read it in one sitting. I had been disappointed with the books I was getting from Amazon. I was beginning to hate reading. This book reminded me of the reasons why I enjoy reading so much. The book was well-researched and steeped with historical fact. The language was appropriate given the time period. The character development was such that it felt genuine and the chemistry between the two main characters had me fully involved. I am currently searching out other books by these authors. This book goes to my keeper pile.

It started out with lots of action, which grabbed me right off... Great love story, love the hero and the little tid bits of comedy... Just needed a little something something like maybe an epilogue to sum up a couple of things... But I really enjoyed the read... Love the Pirate themes best when reading because you know you get it all, hero, action, love ...

HASH(0xa7b68498) out of 5 stars Disappointed, not one of her best.. Aug. 5 2010

This isn't one of Connie Mason's better storylines. And the steamy sex scenes were non-existent. It was tepid at best. I was disappointed.
