Product Description

Former librarian Jessica Martin is about a dozen cats away from embracing her inner spinster. At twenty-six, she's not only still a virgin, she hasn't even been kissed since high school. Her vivacious twin sister, Jamie, keeps trying to set her up with completely unsuitable guys. Prince Charming seems more like a cruel joke than ever until Detective Duncan Reinhold walks into Jessie's vintage bookstore looking for a missing girl. He's everything she's ever dreamed of, but hopelessly out of her league. Can she overcome a lifetime of insecurity and believe he's fallen for her?

Duncan Reinhold isn't looking for love. In fact, it's the very last thing on his mind when he meets Jessie. He’s looking for a missing girl, and he needs to remain focused on the search. But his attraction to Jessie can't be denied and he finds himself in a completely inappropriate clinch with the beautiful bookstore owner within minutes of their first meeting. He knows instantly that she is the one. Can he overcome the complications between them and his own loveless past to convince her that he's interested in being not just her first lover, but also her one and only true love?

Full length novel. (Approx. 100,000 words)

HASH(0xa3851234) out of 5 stars Contrived angst was so tiring Jan. 27 2013

This book made me tired reading it.

Forget the editing issues - they weren't unmanagable - mostly missing words, but the constant "Oh woes me, I'm 26 and a virgin and I am so plain and unappealing that I might as well just forget the idea that anyone could ever just want more than sex from me even though no one ever has even wanted that before because I hide away in case I get my feelings hurt and I know I have a beautiful twin sister (I mean, really?) but no one would really ever want me" attitude that was pervasive in the first 3rd of the book (that's as far as I've gotten to this point) was redundant and bordered on silly. She admits to wearing clothes 2 sizes too big, has a very attractive twin sister but is plain and unappealing? So she's just going to go for the one-night stand because the very nice, gentlemanly, gorgeous detective who wants to make things special, sends her flowers and wants to take things slow and see what develops between them so obviously could not be interested in her really and will just get bored once they actually do it (she has so much experience with that one being a virgin and all) in order to protect herself and her feelings?

I just couldn't buy all that and thought to myself, why am I reading a book with all this contrived angst when I could read a book where I can escape for a couple hours, not get all annoyed over the implausibility of the angst? There are good things about this book - the hero is really nice to the heroine so far and the chemistry is good, their encounters are well written and the plot premise is good too. But I don't get nearly enough time to read as it is and didn't want to spend the rest of my Sunday afternoon with this book when I know I have many others that won't be tiring to read.

I really will try and go back to finish and will update this review accordingly, but for today, I just need a break from it.

Jessie meets Duncan as he is searching for his missing sister Theresa. There is an instant attraction and she literally lets him kiss her within ten minutes of meeting each other. If her gay manager hadn't walked in, who knows how much further she would've gone. And that's just it. She is a 26 year old virgin and wants to just get it over with. Duncan, on the other hand, feels that they have a chance at a real relationship and when he learns about her virgin status, wants to take things much slower so that she has time to fall in love with him. Unfortunately, he has not been completely honest with Jessie and when she finds out that he is married, she does not care what the circumstances are. She is out of his life. Well, sort of.

There are many fun characters in this story, the gay manager Clay, is hilarious, the stripper sister Jamie, who makes her own costumes, Duncan's best friend "the womanizer " Kevin, Duncan's independent minded sister Theresa and Duncan's poodle Hannibal (really, a poodle for a guy? This was a little weird!)

This was my first story by this author and I found that she is a very sexy writer with an interesting plot that made the love story fun to read. I did have some issues with the somewhat inappropriate situations "innocent" Jessie found herself in because Duncan couldn't keep his hands off her, but she was not complaining. There were some editing problems that I didn't find hard to read over, but warning those who hate that. I liked this author's style enough to want to read the next book called The Love Laws and is about Jessie's sister Jamie and Duncan's best friend Kevin. There is a preview of it at the end of this story and it looks hot!

HASH(0xa3851888) out of 5 stars I got lost Sept. 24 2013

In my own opinion, the story started off as ridiculous as it could be. How can you make out with a stranger, no matter how gorgeous he may be and how naïve she may be, it just doesn't sit well.

The plot of the story has nothing exciting to offer and not much of a love story. It was more of a lust story. Where two individuals suffer from intimacy hunger and who delved into it the moment they met each other and got each others' interest. Jessie was supposed to be a virgin at her ripe age but in no time turned out to be a wanton. I may have like her to stay innocent a little bit longer which could have been closer as realistic. I don't think the author gave Duncan justice as well. How could a dumb man who marries his girlfriend just because she said she is pregnant without even confirming it, turned out to be a detective? No wonder he was not able to find his sister who was simply roaming just around the corner. The conflicts and supposed suspense that the author would like to present became too predictable due to the many circumstances that you will believed are clues as they led you to the right conclusion after all.

This book is an ok read but not something you will regret not reading at all.

I don't think I have ever read a book where the main characters acted like they didn't have a brain in their head. SPOILER ALERT!
He tells her to stay home, where he is going could be dangerous, and he cannot concentrate when she is around. Does she? Nope, she heads on into danger, then gets miffed when he does what he set out to do. He is married. Does he tell her? Nope. Not until the wife shows up. He is a cop. He confronts a dangerous suspect. Oops. The perp got a knife while the hero's mind is elsewhere during the confrontation. These are just a few examples. It was just one dumb thing after another. I don't think these people matured in any way after middle school. Grow up, people.

I have to admit, at first I didn't think I was going to like this book. However it had me intrigued from the start. There are some parts that seemed to drag, otherwise I loved it. The connection Duncan and Jessie has is so hot! Instant love! Duncan's ex wife Kerry I wanted to bitch slap! Overall a very good book. I am probably going to get the next one.
