Between busy schedules and long days, expressing love can fall by the wayside. We forget to compliment, to give gifts 'just because,' to linger in our embrace. The things that say 'I love you' seem to either not get said or not get through. This is a book about saying it—and hearing it—clearly. No gimmicks. No psychoanalyzing. Just learning to express love in your spouse’s language.
The 5 Love Languages has transformed countless relationships. Its ideas are simple and conveyed with clarity and humor, making this book practical as it is personable. You’ll be inspired by real-life stories and encouraged by its commonsense approach. reading this book feels like taking a walk with a wise friend. Applying it will forever change your relationship—starting today.

It has literally become one of my favourite books and I constantly recommend it to others. Many friends have shared how communication in their own marriage or families have improved immensely and have been so grateful I told them about it. It makes SO much sense. It puts into words what I had been feeling but couldn't express verbally to even myself let alone anyone else, when I first read it. My kids understand these concepts now which I hope will help them hugely in their relationships. If all couples were equipped with this knowledge at the beginning of their relationship, I believe there really would be less divorce in the world and more communication and unity. Understanding the 5 Love Languages now moving forward has been a blessing. You can apply these concepts to help understand anyone - spouses, partners, kids, teens, work colleagues. I will continue to advocate this book - thankyou for writing it Gary Chapman.
I just did not find this book to be well written at all. I also listened along to the audiobook as I read the ebook on my Kindle, but there are so many name changes of the couples and other small adjustments that he made in the audiobook that this was one of the least enjoyable audiobook experiences for me.
The content was okay, I didn’t find much value in the examples of couples Dr. Chapman has counseled. Although they various couples were representative of the different love languages I found his recounting of the counseling sessions redundant after by the third love language chapter.
I’ll keep in mind the five love languages and I recommend that everyone discover theirs and the love language(s) of their partner I’m glad I am finished with it.
