About the Author
I discovered early on I inherited the gift of the gab from my large Irish family when I penned a story about a princess who ran away to Paris with her pet turtle Lulu. I was twelve. I grew up listening to their wild, outlandish tales and it was those early years of storytelling that led to my love of history and traveling. I enjoy writing to classical music with a hot cup of java by my side. I adore dark chocolate truffles, vintage anything, the smell of bread baking, and rainy days in museums. Q. Where did the idea for this book come from? A. We hear so much about how the Civil War was a conflict about brother against brother. What about the women of the North and South? Sister against sister? My story is about two women with very different beliefs who learn to accept each other for who they are. Q. What draws you to this genre? A. I’ve always loved walking through history—from Pompeii to Verdun to Old Paris. The voices of the past speak to me through carriages with cracked leather seats, stiff ivory-colored crinolines, and worn satin slippers. I’ve always wondered what it was like to walk in those slippers when they were new.

At the start of the novel Pauletta a beautiful southerner and secretly loyal to the Confederacy after losing her love must bring something important to the Union all for losing her love and her loyalty. Fast forward to present day Antietam Liberty an equally beautiful high school teacher and part time EMT takes her students on a field trip and participates in a Civil War reenactment under a rain of cannon and bullet fire Liberty accidently gets sent back in time to the battle of Antietam in the year 1862 running into Major Flynt Stephens.
I just instantly liked the heroine Liberty from the get go her courage and determination in playing a female lieutenant took guts. I admired the fact that Liberty was an EMT part time and being in the health care profession I really appreciated the attention to detail to historical medical knowledge. Even the hero Flynt at first didn’t strike me as being a chivalrous guy especially what he did to Liberty was just so dreamy and I couldn’t help fall for him too! The only one I couldn’t stand was Pauletta sure she grew as a character having more depth but I didn’t like her shallow persona I didn’t see why Liberty and her became friends. I think I started to like her about 75% into the book. I did just want the story to go on and on wondering what happens to Aunt Fairinda, Ophelia and Bedelia. I do hope that Ms. Bacarr writes more especially on some of these characters that I rated the book four stars, can recommend it and will get more books from Ms. Bacarr!
