Placing her Bet by Sharon Coady

When Carissa ventures out, on her own, to the local racetrack, she didn’t expect to met the charming and handsome Joseph. What she also didn’t count on was him being the owner of the horse she just won a substantial amount of money on.

Joseph has had his fair share of money hungry women, but something tells him Carissa is different. And after spending a few weeks getting to know each other, he feels she could be “The One”.

A quick entertaining read, that instills the saying ” Never judge a book by its cover”.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

4/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Going all In by Amy Manemann

Tucker is back in town after his dad is rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke.

The last person he expected to see was his ex Hadley.

Hadley has moved on since Tucker up and left. She has a successful business to think about.

But when their paths cross again, it will be like nothing ever changed.

A quick read that will have you believing that love can come around twice in one lifetime.

3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Baby, Maybe by Lyssa Layne

You would think that the topic of infertility and countless IVF treatments would be a touchy subject to write about……….

But Lyssa Layne’s latest short story will pull you in from the very first chapter. And from there, you will join Julie and Shawn during their last attempt to have the family they have always wanted. And, from someone who knew a little about IVF procedures, the story line will take you on a roller coaster ride, full of ups and downs, laughter and tears and hopefully the tiny potter patter of little feet.

This review is for Hold 'Em by Jacquie Biggar --

Cassandra Gardener is about to get married in Las Vegas but when her gambler father gambles not only her engagement ring but her as well, she’s furious. But when the winning gambler makes a proposition that will help them both out, she sees no other alternative and reluctantly agrees.

Matthew Shaughnessy is a professional poker player and just when he thinks Lady Luck has abandoned him, he scores the juiciest pot of all: a beautiful fiancée to bring home to the family ranch. Sure, she’s a fiery princess but it’ll make his ailing grandma proud. The only problem is that the more he’s around Cassandra, the stronger his attraction for her. But she’s engaged and way too good for him. If only his mind, heart and body would agree. If he goes all in, will he secure her love or wind up with a broken heart?

OMG! I loved this romance by my favorite author, Jacquie Biggar. Las Vegas and Texas are the backdrop for this novella, which is portrayed accurately (I’ve been to both). The characters, though, are what made this story gleam as bright as the Vegas strip. Both Cassandra and Matthew are complex characters with a strong work ethic. Biggar reveals the conflict in their lives with emotive prose and I found my heart going out to them both. The chemistry between Cassandra and Matthew are electrifying… singe-worthy for sure. I was sad when it ended (though the ending was beautiful) and I want more! Highly recommend, especially if you like contemporary romance.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in the hopes I’d review it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luck Of The Draw Box Set (4 1/2 stars overall) May 11 2017

What an excellent selection of books in this set. I’m a fan of four of the authors already and found a few more that I will definitely read more of their books.

Owned… by Jade Kerrion is a touching, heart wrenching, emotional story with a little humor too. Recently divorced Marie, wins the lottery and decides to take her dream vacation to try to start her life over. Phil is an ex Marine suffering from PTSD (the cause of their divorce) and is working at his recovery. Both know they still love each other but feel because of that love, they need to stay apart. Will they have their HEA? This is a very good story that pulls at your heartstrings. It has a few twists and surprises too. Rio, the neighbor is hopefully going to have his own story next. Very well written. I will be reading more by this author. (5 Stars)

Hold ‘Em…by Jacquie Biggar
Matt and Cassandra are a country meets city couple. Matt is a cowboy rancher and professional gambler that loves his family and his home and will do anything to keep them happy. Cassandra is an engaged “city girl” used to the finer things in life and has a dad that is a gambler . (Oh, and we can’t forget about Chewy, the Chihuahua either.)
Without giving any spoilers, this story has some touching moments and a bit of humor too. I enjoyed this opposites attract ,fun, cute, sweet, quick read. (5stars)

Sometimes You Win…by Stacy Eaton
This story is so well written and the characters are well developed.
Haley is a single, hard working mother , trying to make ends meet and working at a job with a nasty boss that she really would like to leave. Devon is a single, very patient, good looking guy who owns a security business in her building and is instantly attracted to her.

Haley was having a day of bad luck and some misgivings so it’s Devon’s perfect chance to help and get to know her better. Watching these two start a relationship was very interesting and you can’t help but cheer for them and hope they can work out their misunderstandings and differences.

Something happens that might turn things around for them but you will have to read this one to find out how it turns out.

I enjoyed this story and couldn’t put it down. It had me feeling emotional one minute and laughing at others. Secondary characters were also enjoyable. Friends and an elderly neighbor that warmed my heart were well developed also. Stacy Eaton is one of my must read authors and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series to see how things progress for Devon and Haley and Allison. (5 Stars)

DOUBLE DOWN by Cathy Perkins . Held my attention throughout. Filled with suspense and surprises and kept me wondering who did it! (4 stars)

Fade Into Love…
Story line was ok and everyone dreams of being a winner in a Sweepstakes they enter but never believe it’s possible.
This one seems to be more for a college age student or new adult .(3 stars)

Luck of the Draw: 13 Romance & Suspense Novellas - 13 stories from some outstanding authors. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of Fade into Love by Michele Shriver and So Unlike Me by Nikki Lynn Barrett. Loved these two stories!

Fade into Love by Michele Shriver - This is Wren and Trey's story. They meet on a movie set. Wren and Trey have an attraction to each other. Things are going great for them but Trey has a secret. Will this secret keep them from taking a chance on love?

So Unlike Me by Nikki Lynn Barrett - This is Lizette and Dirk's story. Lizette has a twin Nola. Lizette agrees to pretend to be Nola but ends up being reacquainted with Nola's best friend, Dirk, from when they were growing up. As Lizette (pretending to be Nola) spend time together they start to have feelings for each other. How will Dirk feel when he finds out that she is Lizette and not Nola? Will this prevent them from taking a chance on love?

This box set is a great way to find new authors and a variety of stories.

"Hold 'Em" by Jacquie Biggar

By the luck of the draw Matt Shaughnessy wins the best gamble that he could: a week with Cassandra Gardner. In exchange for paying off her father's gambling debt, she will pose as Matt's fiancée for a week. What neither of them counted on was this thing called love. Should they roll the dice and take the chance or walk away when all bets are cleared?

A fast paced and enervating novella, Jacque Biggar, has written an enjoyable novel that keep readers on their toes. An engaging plot, strong and well written characters, and room for a whole lot more, "Hold 'Em," will not not only hold your attention, but leave you wanting for more.

"Owned" (Life Shocks Romance novella) by Jade Kerrion

What another phenomenal Life Shocks Romance. The author never fails to pack a full story into the length of a novella and leave nothing out.

An enthralling read, "Owned" examines true love, PTSD, nightmares, anger issues and other emotional and mental
consequences one man faces after serving in the war in Afghanistan. It affects him continually, his wife and his marriage.

Only after divorcing and a chance meeting later, that true love and the desire to assess ones issues as the returning soldier and the spouse of that soldier, do Marie and Phil start to find their way back together.

It won't be easy and there is still so far for them go...but if you believe Marie, all the signs are there.

Great character development and a strong and realistic storyline, makes this Life Shocks novella a read straight through workout stopping winner.

"So Unlike Me" by Nikki Lynn Barret

What an interesting concept for this novella. Fun, enjoyable, and engaging from page one.

The author has developed some wonderful and true to life characters that the reader can empathize with and relate to.

She has taken a story of switched identity and turned it into a calamity of fun, confusion, mixed feelings, and a need to rebuild trust double time.

If the man of Lizette's dreams can deal with the craziness of the Monroe sisters, then she, her sister, and her the man she is falling for have quite of an adventure coming up...more so than what they have been through.

A great addition to the "Luck of the Draw" box set, but also a tremendous stand alone. I am excitedly looking forward to the next book in this series; as will all readers. Personally, it couldn't come soon enough.

"Sometimes You Win" (The Sometimes Series Book 1) by Stacy Eaton

A fun, enjoyable and sassy novella full of rags to riches, infatuation at first sight, friends, family and winning.

Strong and realistic characters and an entertaining story line, make up this enthralling novella.

Stacy Eaton knows how to pull the reader in, keep them hooked, and leave them asking for more. Luckily, there will be more in this series. The question is when...

4.0 out of 5 stars 13 lucky novellas to keep a busy bookworm happy! May 11 2017
By Karan Eleni - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Due to my insanely busy schedule, shorter stories keep my bookworm cravings to a minimum as I'm able to devour them in an hour or two. When the opportunity arose to review a handful of the stories in this set, I jumped!

Hold 'Em is the first book I've read by Jacquie Biggar as well as the first in the Luck of the Draw: 13 Romance & Suspense Novellas collection. I actually had my iPhone read Hold 'Em to me, and despite the robotic voice, I very much enjoyed it. Taking one for the team and cleaning up your father's mess has to be stressful. Add in finding your Mr. Right when you're already committed to Mr. Good Enough and I probably would have figured out how to escape. I'm looking forward to reading more by Jacquie and hope she expands on this story with Cass and Matt. I'd love to see more about Sophia and Tony too!

Next up was Fade into Love by Michele Shriver, and I totally loved it! As I was thinking of what to write that wouldn't spoil anything (#saynotospoilers), it popped into my head that Wren was a lot more courageous that I was in college. I stopped to think about that, and it dawned on me that I was too, but in a different way. (Thank you for sparking that realization, Michele!!) If you're looking for a quick read that gives you a peek into the day-to-day of a movie production, a senior in college, and a budding new romance merging two completely different worlds, you're in for a treat with this one. Grabbing a copy of Michele's related story right now!!

Sometimes You Win by Stacy Eaton was an adorable story of unexpected luck and something we wish would happen to all of us. Taking a chance on the near impossible could result in exactly what you need. I quickly fell into step with the characters and was ecstatic to see the story will be continued!

The fourth story I read was Maybe, Baby by Lyssa Layne. As with the rest, I had my iPhone read to me while on my commute. I'm not sure if that caused the confusion, but it wasn't until the end of the story that I realized the beginning wasn't about the same couple that a bulk of the story was about. Despite my head not working correctly, the story was a wonderful read, and I'll be looking at Lyssa's backlist very soon!

Disclaimer: I received complementary pre-publication copies of the above books and am voluntarily leaving a review. I have purchased a copy of the full set so I can continue reading and update this review with a mini review for each story included.
