Product Description

A maniac is murdering gang leaders in the desert outside San Diego . An upstart Mexican cartel has infiltrated the local market with a toxic new drug. Black magic is whispered in alleys and zombie tweekers roam the streets.

The world stands on the brink of something sinister and occult, threatening to unravel everything Donnie DeGrassi has worked to build. Time is running out and the only guy he knows that can piece together this supernatural puzzle has completely vanished from the scene.

Some say Kal Renley is crazy, others claim he’s a genius, but those that dose his chemicals just know him as the Medicine Man, master of high-flying drugs and head-spinning trips. He also happens to know more about the supernatural than anyone else on the streets.

Can Donnie get his best friend out of an early retirement before reality gets as ugly as the underworld?

A supernatural suspense thriller from the mind of debut author Joshua Ryan Ogg, full of pulse-pounding action, head-spinning trips, and dark urban magic, all set in a psychedelic vision of the Apocalypse.

Categories: Supernatural Mystery, Gritty Action Adventure, Surreal Urban Fantasy, Psychedelic Suspense Thriller, Apocalyptic Fiction, Supernatural and the Occult.

HASH(0xa1a1ddd4) out of 5 stars Good characters, crazy action March 1 2015

A twisted setting full of shamans, demons, gangbangers and drug zombies. Think of the Exorcist done modern-style, with a touch of Salton Sea or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The characters are convincingly screwed up, and I had a great time reading.

Very good psychedelic weirdness; thrilling read! It had just a touch of humor at all the right points, and the characters were incredibly believable. I would highly recommend this as a read to anyone who likes a dark thriller every now and then. Waiting for the next one! :D

Oblivion is something different. It's something special, straddling the lines between being truly unique, and a call back to some forgotten era of horror fiction. It's difficult to explain, and indeed the book is complex, but there's a quality to the writing style I haven't seen before. It's almost as if the author was writing to some pulsing beat, where each scene transition feels like a glorious riff. This is especially true in the early chapters.

Introducing characters without going overboard with exposition is often one of the hardest feats for an author, especially a debut author. But the writing from the first page is so intense, and staged against a background you're immediately invested in. This isn't the San Diego some of you may know. It's darker, and nasty, with shades of evil ready to pounce on, seemingly, every corner.

We are told this story through three primary vessels (Kal, Donnie, and Eden), and each of these characters have their own voice, and their own demons they are running from. There are countless characters, but each is given a unique voice without overpowering, or dragging down the narrative. There is such a big world created within the confines of this book, that I'm eager to see what comes next. There are so many character dynamics to explore, and so many rules. Against the flash-paced prime narrative, there is a constant idea that there is something bigger going on in the background.

This is a testament to the authors ability to created a fully-dimensional world. This isn't a book with characters against white scenery, this is a book with a city alive and well in the background, and that very city (with all it's dynamics) is a driving force to the conflict that erupts toward the end of the book.

Even with the fast pace of the beginning of the book, I feel like this book is a bit of a slow burn. You are given time to understand what's going on (and it can get confusing if you don't pay attention). You are given all the information you need, as well as receiving an associates degree in the arts of dark magic -- seriously, I learned so much from this book.

Oblivion is a fine debut, and is a fine first-entry into what i presume will be an ongoing story. There's going to be a fine-line to walk when it comes to the next book, and it's going to be important to retain the quality of the world, but also giving us something a little new.

Joshua Ryan Ogg... this was one jaw dropping insanely amazing masterpiece my friend! fan-freaking-tastic! I am not only giving you one hell of a slow clap but a standing ovation right now!!

Oblivion: Medicine Man was not your typical book and thank heavens for that! I am so glad that I stumbled upon this amazing little masterpiece because this was the read of a lifetime and Joshua seriously you have made a fan for life out of me and if you and I both weren't married I would be knocking on your door picking your brain at all hours of the night because their is some seriously amazing stuff in there!

This book takes you on a bit of a mind trip and is a bit outside of the norm its set in San Diego our little beach town in Cali and it starts when a new Mexican Cartel is trying to break into the San Diego market with a bad drug called you guessed it Oblivion. This mess is toxic and causes some nastiness, let me just say this book is full of black magic, some awesome fight scenes, a lot of drugs, its very psychedelic at times. There is a ton of action, suspense, all the drama you could ever wish for and the medicine man is amazing he is pretty bad ass and has some awesome powers and this is just book one! If this book is any indication of where this series is going hold onto your hats folks because Joshua is going to be taking us readers on one heck of an amazing ride and I for one can't wait! If you haven't downloaded this yet or at least added it to your TBR list don't wait you do not want to miss this series!
HASH(0xa19f7d08) out of 5 stars A head trip in high speed Aug. 2 2015

Allow me to say up front that the editor in me initially wanted to take a star for the minor errors running throughout this book, along with the occasional formatting glitches. That said, the Indie enthusiast in me, aka the reader, HAS to give Oblivion a full strip. To quote Kal the Medicine Man, Ogg’s debut novel is “A head trip in high speed.”

The imagery is vibrant, letting the story come to life and burst from the pages to take you on one hell of a trip through the underbelly of San Diego, CA. Kidnappings, dark magic, drug cartels, zombies, high speed car chases, and more. . .

If you want a story with great characters, lots of action, and an actual plot, give Oblivion a read.
