HASH(0x9c066cd8) out of 5 stars MacAlister's Hope Dec 19 2014

Fia is grateful for everything her foster family has given her, but she has largely been hovering in the shadows working hard to learn the ways of being a healer and giving aid where she can, so when the MacAlisters show up demanding her aid, she finds she must step out of the shadows and come into her own as a healer in her own right. Kieron recognizes her immediately as the girl he’s loved ever since a small word of advice from her change his outlook on life, and instilled him with confidence. I love stories of people who glimpsed each other as children, then grow up to reunite and fall in love. The mystical/paranormal qualities of the Winter Stone made a great backdrop for the story. Great short story!
HASH(0x9c066f24) out of 5 stars A wonderful short, perfect for a quick read, I can’t wait to grab the first in the story to meet Fia and Kieron as children. Aug. 31 2015

A “follow-up” character exploration story, MacAlister’s Hope is the story of Fia MacLachlan, first met in The Devil of Kilmartin. I’ve yet to read that particular title, and have purchased it to read at the first free opportunity.

Fia was an orphan child, yet skilled with healing and herbs. Taken in and raised with love and kindness, Fia has made a life for herself, and has grown and thrived in her role as healer. But, the early years took a toll: never fully confident in her skills, or believing her own worth, she is content to serve as “second’ to Elena, the woman who with her husband, raised her.

When the MacAlister’s come searching for a healer, namely Elena, her advanced pregnancy preclude her traveling, and Fia is sent in her place. The man sent to fetch the healer is Kieron, who has never forgotten the sage advice given years ago by an orphan waif. Not only did Fia’s advice to Kieron help him through a difficult time pushing him to use not just his fists but his wits. Now grown, a trusted warrior for the clan and advisor to the chieftan, Kieron has never forgotten Fia, and his interest is renewed.

A sweet story based in learning, healing and help: beautifully emotional and detailed with descriptions that bring the characters to life, setting their conflicts, concerns and connection out for all to see. Kieron’s admiration for Fia is heartfelt, yet her loyalty to her own home and all she feels she needs to know keep her hesitant. The feelings and desire are there, but the conflict between leaving those she feels she owes and toward her own happiness clearly present and leave the reader cheering for this couple…

A wonderful short, perfect for a quick read, I can’t wait to grab the first in the story to meet Fia and Kieron as children.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusion are my own responsibility.
HASH(0x9bff9180) out of 5 stars Ms. Wittig does it again with long awaited enchanting superbly written book with Wee Fia that will sweep you off your feet! Aug. 24 2015

This "MacAllister's Hope" (A Kilmartin Glen novella) by Laurin Wittig was absolutely wonderful and for those of you like me who have read Laurin's book The Devil of Kilmartin, (A Kilmartin Glen novel) as this is a must read! As In this is the story of orphan wee Fia who I first me in Laurin's debut "The Devil of Kilmartin" where the Devil and Elena took under their wing and made wee Fia the daughter of their hearts. Fia is all grown up now and is brought to The MacAlister Clan to help heal the chief, but what she doesn't realize the boy that she helped all those years ago Kieron, is one of the lead warriors of this clan. This is their story without giving anything much away but it was so sweet and tender of course with a wee bit of mischief thrown in. It's also about a lass wih doesn't have any self esteem, faith and in both her abilities and in herself. Kieron, this brave and honorable man helps her find her confidence and self esteem as she had helped him as a boy so many years before and changed his destiny as well as The Winter Stone. I loved this exceptional story it was breath taking, captivating, beautiful and absolutely wonderful! have been a fan of Ms. Wittig since her debut as a writer, so this book was very special to me. I originally read this in 2014 in The Winter Stone trilogy/anthology with Tanya Anne Crosby and Glynnis Canpbell which I also recommend as it was fascinating how all three stories were connected in the special anthology as well. It is also fast paced, page turner that is suberbly written as it will capture your heart as I know it did mine. I highly recommend as I loved it!

MacAlister's Hope is a follow up to The Devil of Kilmartin and revisits little Fia MacLachlan who is now nineteen years old and skilled in the lore of herbs and healing.

The Macalisters arrive asking for Elena because she is related to their chief and is well known for her healing abilities. However, she is too far along in her pregnancy and cannot travel with them, so she sends Fia in her place. Kieron MacAlister remembers Fia from an earlier visit years ago but she does not remember him until he tells the story of that meeting and the advice that she gave him. She told him that he needed to use his intelligence and not his fists when confronted by the other boys trying to bully him. He heeded that advice and has become a trusted advisor to his chief.

Fia is eventually able to heal the chief's mysterious illness but she must return home to help Elena. Eventually, Kieron and Fia are able to find a way to live their lives together.

I hardly ever read novellas, too short for me, but I wanted to read Fia's story after finishing The Devil of Kilmartin. I have to say I enjoyed this one. Fia grew up to be a healer under Elena's tutelage. Her connection to Kieron was a strong one and I believed in their relationship. I just wished there was more development of the characters and the story. I was happy to have read this novella and would recommend it to those who are fans of the first book. I hope there will be more full length books in this series in the future.
