In the Kate Daniels series, Magic Bleeds is a great adventure story from beginning to end. The story line itself will be very satisfying for Kate Daniels fans. I read it through to the end the first day I got it and then lent it to my daughter who is also a fan to read it. Ilona Andrews has crafted another fantastic novel. Anyone who has yet to read the series I suggest you start with the first one and read all of them. You'll be in for a treat. Where else do you get shapechangers, vampires, magic and tech along with the main character's dry sense of humour? This one was definitely worth the wait and now I have to wait for the next one in the series. Too bad it takes so long.

Format: Mass Market Paperback
Kate Daniels has had some measure of stability throughout the series, but all that goes straight down the toilet in "Magic Bleeds." Ilona Andrews' fourth book focusing on the magical merc is a harrowing experience from beginning to end, filled with gruesome action, feisty romance, and a nearly unkillable enemy. In other words, it's finger-gnawingly brilliant.

Atlanta is being hit by a series of impossible attack -- a werecoyote is eaten alive by a magical strain of syphilis, the Casino is attacked by a pyromancer, and the Guild's founder turns inside out from magic cholera. Every major power in Atlanta is on red alert, but Kate is having some troubles figuring out who's responsible, since the culprit's appearance seems to change every time he/she attacks.

And after a disastrous dealing with Saiman, she discovers the true identity of the "Steel Mary" who is quietly attacking the People, the Pack and the Guild -- a supernatural horror from the earliest days of human civilization. Even worse, it has a personal connection to her. As the city is ravaged by one supernatural attack after another, Kate, Curran and her allies must enter a battle that they may not be able to win.

It's not quite Jim Butcher's "Changes," but "Magic Bleeds" takes virtually everything in Kate Daniels' life and turns it on its head -- she suffers some devastating losses, makes some important personal choices, and is now in more danger than ever before. Some is good, some is bad -- but Kate's life is irrevocably changed in almost every way.

In fact, Andrews sticks the main plot on the backburner for awhile so some attention can be paid to the relationship between Curran and Kate.

This is Kate Daniels Book 4. Very well written, as usual, LOL. I LOVE how the relationship between Kate and Curran is the bread in the sandwich, with the plot/storyline/etc the filling. And the relationship situation is completely different , ploar opposite actually, when you compare one piece of bread to the other. Very well done Ilona Andrews! The story is full of action and intrigue and has a very interesting evil doer. I wonder when this illusive Roland will make an appearance? We seem to be getting closer and closer....but no sightings yet.

Good book. If you like Urban fantasy you will more than likely enjoy this series. Though the authors do a valiant job of explaining the back story,BTW with out boring the series reader, it is FAR better to start way back at book one and read them in order.

After all the hinting about Kate's mysterious heritage, she's finally going to meet one of her relatives. Strange, she doesn't seem that excited...

Magic Bleeds is another excellent installment in a series I am loving more and more. This book is a little different from the rest of the series in that the romantic storyline definitely takes the forefront here. Those of you who know me, though, know that doesn't bother me at all. I don't want to give anything away, but I was excited to have lots of Kate-Curran interactions on page.

And there's still plenty of action to be had in the plot department. Let's just say I don't think Kate's going to be trying to organize a family reunion anytime soon. When her sociopathic, plague-spreading aunt stops into town, Kate has her hands full just trying to prevent a disaster.
