Product Description

Revenge is a dish best served cold… while wearing heels.

April has just learned the real reason behind her boss’ impromptu dinner invitation. He only invited her to dinner with his colleagues to prove a point: that he can show up at an event with a plain Jane and still be considered ‘the man’. She expected better from him and had secretly hoped that one day their friendship would grow into something deeper. Now she knows she will always just be his 'nerdy secretary' to him.

But her two best friends won’t let her wallow in her pain. They convince her to give Dr. Stewart a dose of his own medicine. The plan: show up at the dinner looking irresistible and prove to her boss that even nerd girls can be sexy. But first she has to replace her unattractive business suits with something sexier and more revealing. It’s time for a makeover.

Dr. Chad Stewart would never ‘really’ date his secretary. She was too good, to pure for someone as jaded as himself. It didn’t matter that he was half in love with her. But when he needed an ‘average date’ for a dinner party she was the first person he turned to. He thought his secretary was the perfect choice until he arrived to find her looking like his wildest fantasy. But now she knows the real reason for his invite and he can see in her eyes how hurt she is.

Can Chad convince her to forgive him for hurting her or will she walk out of his life… taking his heart with her?

~Excerpt~

“That’s right. Your plan was to use me to advance yourself.”
“That was my plan. I admit it. I was wrong. What can I do to make you forgive me?”
He sounded sincere. The fact that his eyes seemed to be watering as he stared at her longingly confirmed the sincerity she heard in his voice. But she wouldn’t fall for it. She wouldn’t let him in, only to be hurt by him again in the future.
“There is nothing I want from you. There is nothing I want you to do other than to take me home, right now.” Those blasted tears were threatening to fall again. “Please just take me home.” Her voice broke on the last word. Chad held his hands up, surrendering to her demand.
“If you really want to go home, I will take you home. Just please answer one question for me?’
She didn’t want to answer any questions, but if it would get her home sooner she would.
“What is the question?”
“When I touch you, do you feel anything?”
Where had that question come from?
“Um…”
“I’m not finished. When we sip coffee together each morning, do you ever get the feeling that maybe we’re meant to be together? I know it sounds crazy, but even tonight, with everything that is going on, does a part of you feel the need to hold me and never let me go?”
Yes, yes, yes, that was exactly how she felt. How did he know? A sob escaped her lips. She put her hands over her face. She didn’t want to look at him. She didn’t want to hope that maybe he really felt those things he’d just said. Hope led to disappointment and she’d had enough disappointment in her life already. She couldn’t risk placing her hope in Chad. He’d already let her down once.
The sound of gravel crunching let her know he was taking a step closer to her. She took a step back, suddenly very aware of his presence. Sobbing into her hands, afraid to look up, she continued to walk backward and he continued to follow her.
Her back connected with something hard. She leaned back and felt the rough touch of tree bark against her exposed shoulders. Chad wrapped one arm around her waist and pulled her forward. His hand settled at the small of her back. He used his other hand to massage her shoulders. The feel of his hands on her bare skin made her tremble. Why did she want him so much?
“I messed up, April. If you give me another chance, I promise to never do anything like this again. Forgive me, please.”

HASH(0xa2d852f4) out of 5 stars Fun, nerdy romance!! July 22 2013
By Janiera - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
What I liked about this book:
This book was so much fun. It is a light but fast paced romance/comedy about a nerdy girl finding true love. I found the main character extremely easy to relate to. The only difference is I really do like fashion and I'm still a nerdy girl.
I enjoyed the main character because she was nerdy and shy, but she did stand up for herself and I thought it was great.
The main male character was dreamy even though he was a bit of a douche bag, He tried so hard to make up his wrongs. I loved the way April handed this situation too.
What I didn't like about the book:
Some parts were a tad repetitive, mostly the descriptions. That didn't make me dislike the book any less through.
I wish it was just a tad longer beyond the 86 pages because I think it would have been nice to dig a little more into their future together.
Overall: I don't read romance much, but this was a real treat! It was fast, fun and flrty without being gooey and annoying. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance.

Rated- Pg-13 thematic elements and sensuality.

HASH(0xa1dd8a70) out of 5 stars Nerd girls are HOT! July 10 2013
By Melinda De Ross - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
A fun read with fun characters sometimes tends to resemble cartoons put into words - although you enjoy them, you know they're not real. Contrary to that first impression, this isn't the case. I totally identified myself with April, who is funny, smart and savvy, but can also be hurt and offended by the sexy, cool-looking Dr. Chad Stewart.
Her friends are every girl's dream - cheerful, exciting and together they make a great team, with a vital mission on their hands.
A cute and relaxing read, a wonderful atmosphere and more than amiable characters. I enjoyed it IMMENSELY and can't wait to read more of M.G. Allen's work!

HASH(0xa0134bc4) out of 5 stars Just What I needed! Oct. 7 2013
By Susanne Matthews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Well done, Ms. Allen. I read The Makeover at a time when my spirits were low, and the book provide much needed humor. As a former high school wallflower, I could easily identify with April and her friends and the frustrations associated with being outside the so-called cool group. While I may not be into Star Wars, I well-remember the movies and could easily visualize the characters described. I enjoyed the way the love story developed, especially the doctor's efforts to apologize. I look forward to reading more about her nerd roommates and hope there are other nerd girl love stories in the making.

LOVE the cover!! The Makeover is a sweet, fun romance. Monica Gary-Allen entertains us with her nerdy-girls-are-sexy-too story and her talent for including the sisterhood aspect in her stories. I look forward to many more stories from this author!!! The Wookie costume imagery is priceless!

Title: THE MAKEOVER
Series: Nerd Girls Love Hard #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance, Chick-Lit
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors
Received from: Monica Garry-Allen (in exchange for an honest review)

This is the first book in the Nerd Girls Love Hard series.

Dr. Chad Stewart always has a beautiful woman on his arm when attending social events with his colleagues. When he asks his secretary, April, to accompany him, he plans to show them that he is more than half of an attractive couple. He wants to prove that he has earned his place in the medical world as a doctor. When April finds out that her job that night is to be a plain Jane date, she feels dejected and belittled. Rather than allow her to retreat with a pint of ice cream, her friends convince her to allow them to perform a makeover that will drop the doctor’s jaw, but then what?

I love April. She is smart, a little introverted, nerdy, geeky, and naturally pretty. She doesn’t need the falseness that so much of society deems necessary for women. She’s more of a “take me as I am or leave me alone” type of girl. I wanted to hate Dr. Chad. After all, he was acting like a cad. Instead, I ended up liking him. He isn’t intentionally hurtful, just insensitive. He’s also fighting his attractions to April and that makes men stupid.

I hope Monica Garry-Allen continues this series. I’d love to see what she comes up with for April’s roommates, and for Dr. Chad’s friend, Michael
