HASH(0x9dd352a0) out of 5 stars If you like History and Mystery.... Feb. 15 2007

These stories are set in various times during Ancient Egypt, and are written by masters in the field of historical mystery. Stories were well crafted and riveting. I would have prefered a little more background on both the author and the main characters, especially the the authors I hadn't read before, but it's not really necessary. I will be looking for some of the authors to read more about their characters.

HASH(0x9e5b636c) out of 5 stars Enjoyable selection of mysteries Aug. 13 2007

The stories in this anthology are consistently good, which is a relief. There are not centuries but millenia of possible settings and the editor has done a good job of selecting a spread of times and places as well as authors. The historical settings are not annoying or invasive to the reader except in one story, the weakest in the book IMO. I'm glad I bought the book.

HASH(0x9e6cf33c) out of 5 stars 19 tales, only 2 duds April 4 2010

I'd call that pretty good odds. As a fan of Lauren Haney and Lynda S. Robinson, it was a pleasure to have a buffet of delicacies from other authors to sample their style and wordsmithing. I'm going to order some more of these 'Mammoth Whodunnits" featuring other settings. I don't think they can beat Egypt though as a jewel of a setting.
HASH(0xa00c7078) out of 5 stars Large book-nice selections Oct. 3 2012

I actually got this book because I couldn't decide on what mystery I wanted to read. I have had several of this editors other collections and enjoyed them. The one draw-back here is that the other books by each author are laughably short. In the past I have enjoyed making note of books by authors I enjoyed in the collection for future reading. I wish there were more for the authors represented here. Just a minor point, but it is somewhat disappointing.
HASH(0x9e2a39c0) out of 5 stars Another excellent "Mammoth Book of..." June 14 2015

I'm a "Mammoth Book of..." fan and this one is just as good as the others. Ashley has a great understanding of how to compile an anthology.
