4.0 out of 5 stars 4/5 Stars - It does anti-aliasing but sacrifices sharpness
By Darke Raine on June 28, 2022
Okay. So anyone who understands video processing knows what is happening. Those who don't, here it is. To soften edges and lines, you need to blur them a bit. So you lose a bit of sharpness when you want to soften the jagged edges and lines of image or video. Anti-aliasing always takes sharpness away. But it also depends on the software/Ai engineered to handle the anti-aliasing and it also depends on the power of the processor handling the task on whether you get great, decent or terrible results.

1.) Image one is the Switch set to 1080p output and no mClassic installed.

2.) Image two is the Switch still set to 1080p output with the mClassic processing the video stream and cleaning up the jagged lines. However, take a look at the eye on the left of the screenshot. The color is wobbly looking. Very water-colored looking.

3.) Image three is the Switch set to 720p output with the mClassic installed and processing the video stream. The lines are easier to look at but the level of detail is more muddled. The whole image is a bit more blurry. But you aren't meant to sit 3 feet from your TV.

720p output is suggested to use on the Switch. The mClassic will NOT output 1440p on ANY TV. Only monitors. It will output 1080p on 1080p TVs and 4K TVs.

4/5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on August 24, 2021
As you can see from my photos it made absolutely zero difference with my N64. (Photos are in off, and then one in each mode) Same with all my retro consoles. Only gave 2 stars at it did make a slight, and I mean only slight, difference when using my Xbox 360. Wasn't really bothered about the 360, was hoping my retro games would be less blurry on my 43' screen with this device, but doesn't even do that. Maybe something to do with my scart to HDMI converter?
