HASH(0xa450d9a8) out of 5 stars Daredevil - The Fun Superhero Sept. 11 2010
By Robert Farrell - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Perhaps it's my age, but this is the character I have always chosen to think of when I think of Daredevil: Daredevil, the Fun Superhero. There's a facial feature you see in these stories that are hardly seen in any current comic: the smile. In spite of everything, Daredevil seems to be having fun. These are the kinds of stories one would read on a sunny Saturday because there was a brightness and cheerfulness in both the stories and the art. There's some irony there considering the artist is Gene Colan, who drew the longest running horror comic, Tomb of Dracula and became known for his shadowy work. But here there is more light than shadow and the Daredevil-in-motion shots have never been duplicated before or since. I cannot say enough about Gene Colan's work.

And, of course, Stan Lee, who in The Son of Origins of Marvel Comics, called Daredevil his favorite creation, keeps the Man Without Fear at his wisecracking best, all while creating tight, plausible and entertaining stories. The Masked Marauder series, the Leap Frog, the Stilt Man and best of all, the first DD Annual all make for stories worth reading again and again.

While many highly talented artists and writers followed, no one, in my mind topped this work by Lee and Colan and no one ever will.

HASH(0xa37757f8) out of 5 stars swashbuckler comics July 10 2012
By Michael Dobey - Published on
Format: Hardcover
At this point stan lee decided to write stories in which daredevil was at ease with his situation. He became a swashbuckling type of hero. Cracking jokes and loving every minute of being a superhero. And that's a good thing because at least a few superheroes would be like this if there were such things!. He's a succesful lawyer , he likes a cute girl , this is a nontormented hero and he's enjoying it all. daredevil would continue this for anohter 100 issues before going much darker. but that still fits , after all he would be older and the endless crime he sees might make him change from a carefree daredevil! DD reprints here are from 21-32. Don't expect agnst , expect fun and a carefree hero. who will change as he gets older by issue 150, and you will enjoy the late Gene Colans very fluidic art. He was always a excellent artist and he was at his best here.
