HASH(0x9b7ad09c) out of 5 stars A terrific collection! Aug. 14 2007

This volume includes some truly great tales in the Stan Lee-Gene Colan canon, including the classic DD vs Dr. Doom, as well as the conclusion of the Mike Murdock triple identity arc. The reproduction is top notch, and it's a pleasure to see Colan's dynamic artwork reproduced so cleanly. It's clear how much Stan Lee must have enjoyed writing these tales -- he's having fun, so the reader can't help but have fun as well. I realize that to fans of Frank Miller's version of Daredevil, the word "fun" seems misplaced in describing this character, but this is Daredevil as Stan Lee created him: a bravura show-off who wears a red suit, calls himself a daredevil, cracks jokes, and is only truly himself when he's performing acrobatics.

Highly recommended!

HASH(0x9b7ad2e8) out of 5 stars Another Strong Collection from Stan and Gene March 13 2012

All in all, a very good collection of Daredevil stories from Marvel's Silver Age. Lee does a fine job story plotting and Colan's art is terrific. Book quality is top notch.

HASH(0x9b7ad528) out of 5 stars Ah, the days when crossovers were restrained... Jan. 13 2013

Daredevil never had the best villains unless he "borrowed" them from other heroes. I mean, c'mon! Stilt-Man? The Purple Man? Leapfrog? The Kingpin was a second-string Spider-Man villain until Frank Miller utilized him brilliantly during that later run.

In this volume, ol' Horn-head borrows Dr. Doom to great effect. No spoilers here, I'm afraid. Issues #37 & 38 deliver a tight two-issue story that isn't so much continued in Fantastic Four #73, but 'epilogued' in a way. Once you read those three chapters, you'll see what I mean.

Fantastic Four Marvel Masterworks vol. 8 also reprints #73, but does not include Daredevil #37 & 38. If you're an FF fan, you'll know why: That issue stands on its own as an FF story, short on plot, but long on action! That was usually the case when super heroes fought each other due to some misunderstanding or other. But, it's also a nice wrap-up of the DD story.

It's a shame that crossover stories of this kind rarely exist any more. Instead, those stories of today seem to crossover to multiple titles 'ad infinitum' until you're so dizzy, you don't remember where the story started.
