Product Description

Thirteen years ago, two teens met on the ramp to Ground Zero, on a cold and snowy day, strangers bonding in a moment of grief. The boy pressed a crystal snowflake ornament into the girl’s hand and disappeared into the crowd, unaware that his simple act of kindness saved her from the guilt that threatened to consume her.

Since losing her mom, Elena Larsen hasn’t set foot in New York City -- until now. Agreeing to help her sister prepare for her baby’s birth seems like a good way to spend Christmas and Elena vows not to let the monstrous guilt that weighs on her heart ruin everything. But those plans go awry when she meets Lucas Adair, a man whose own grief and guilt just might rival her own.

When Elena discovers Lucas is the boy who gave her that crystal snowflake all those years ago, she can’t accept it as the sign Lucas believes it to be. For her, it means only one thing --- even beyond the grave, her mother can never forgive Elena for breaking her heart.

For Lucas, New York is hallowed ground that he can never leave. He spends his days working in the Financial District and his evenings volunteering and it’s almost enough to help him forget what he did. Lucas knows better than to make plans with a woman who will soon be leaving, yet can’t help himself. There’s something about Elena that pulls him in. He doesn’t put much faith in signs but even he starts to believe Elena is his absolution. Now, he only has to convince her.

A beautifully written and touching story.

Two people connected in more ways than they thought. Both lost their mothers in the 9-11 World Trade Center attack. The memories still haunt them.

Elena Larsen hasn’t stepped foot in New York since the day she left. She has finally come back to the city to help her pregnant sister. She doesn’t expect to meet a man the first day she is there. He is strangely familiar to her, but she knows she has never met him before.

Lucas Adair is the kind of man who will do anything for anyone, even giving his gloves to a stranger on the street. So, when he sees a lady being knocked down by someone else, he is right there to help her up. After she leaves, he knows he has to see her again.

Fate works in strange ways as they end up volunteering together and become friends. Will Luke ever be able to get Elena to leave her worries behind in order to move on with the future? The signs are everywhere that they should be together.

I really enjoyed everything about this book. It was my favorite of the series.

HASH(0xa291bee8) out of 5 stars Poignant, powerful story Nov. 11 2014
By PSusan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is something I haven’t done before. I’m saying the same thing at the beginning of each of this series reviews. I highly recommend reading all four of the stories. None is too long, but all fit together wonderfully.

Goodness and Light is part of the Christmas in New York series. In the past I have enjoyed the Montana series from this publisher. Then I found the Southern series, which is also very good. However, I love, love, love this series.

I would be hard press to say which of these novellas my favorite is. The entire series is a true delight. Five girlfriends who mothers were best friends so they feel more like family than friends. While each has a different author, all are well written.

Goodness and Light is the most emotionally touching of these Christmas in New York stories. It is not just a romance but also a beautiful and bittersweet story about loss, love, family and forgiving one’s self. What looks at first to be such a contrast between Lucas and Elena is not as the author peels back the layers of their grief, hurts and fears. They are more alike than different and both must come to terms with it. You will need a box of tissues handy with this read. Poignant, powerful read.

Last thought – Elena is right, Kara does need a happy-ever-after, too.

HASH(0xa2789b70) out of 5 stars heart wrenching Dec 2 2014

Elena Larson and Lucas Adair both lost their mother’s in the horrific attack on September 11, 2001 in the twin towers. That didn’t mean that the both handled it the same or handled it at all. For Elena it was all she could do to run and just not stop running. For Lucas it was anger and then as he grew older it was figuring out how to really make things better. What they both had in common though was guilt. They were both dealing with a mess of it. While Lucas had come head to head with it at 17 Elena was facing it for the first time this holiday season. Would the signs point to happiness? Or would all signs point to hell?
Ms. Blount takes the reader back to New York and the circle of friends in this Christmas in New York novella that can be read as a stand alone though is much better if read with the series. The hero and heroine are more than battered in this novella and anyone who has first hand experience with the tragedy of 9/11 should be prepared to have emotions surface. This novella is well written, but engages most in a young woman’s journey of self forgiveness. If you are ready for some guilt trips pack your bags and be ready to leave them for the return journey.

HASH(0xa2acd780) out of 5 stars Best of the series, fantastic read Nov. 13 2014

Goodness and Light was probably my favorite of this "series". Both Elena and Lucas lost their mothers in the 9/11 attacks. While Lucas has come to terms with his guilt and grief, Elena still blames herself for what happened.

This story is so beautifully written. It touches on how one might have felt as a result of a family member who was lost on 9/11, and what their last words to each other are/were. Loved Elena's character. While being in New York brings up bad memories, she sucks it up to help her sister for the most part. Lucas' background surprised me most, and it was nice to see how well Patty turned his character into a lovable one. With flashes of the girls from the rest of the books in this one, it wraps the series up almost perfectly. There is one more secondary character (Elena's sister Kara) and I really hope we get her story :)

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great Christmas read, and make sure you have tissues handy if you are a crier when reading

HASH(0xa285451c) out of 5 stars If you read just one holiday romance this year, make it this one! Nov. 11 2014
By Kimberly V - Published on Amazon.com

For the first time since losing her mother in the attack on the World Trade Center, Elena Larsen has returned to New York City. Upon arriving, she encounters Lucas Adair, who also lost his mother on that fateful day. As far as Elena knows, she has never met Lucas before; yet, there is something remarkably familiar about him. As Lucas and Elena continue to randomly come into contact with one other, it is up to them to decide if it is mere coincidence or fate. A Match Made at Christmas, previously entitled Goodness And Light, by Patty Blount is an absolutely wonderful new novella in the Christmas In New York series. There is nothing gloomy about this inspirational story of destiny and finding the silver lining in loss. With its beautiful sentiment of love and hope, it is the perfect holiday read. Aptly titled, it is filled all of the goodness and light of the holiday season. I highly recommend it! Thank you to Tule Publishing for the advance reader copy.

HASH(0xa303e0fc) out of 5 stars this series was a holiday treat Dec 30 2014
By Jessica Alcazar - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Let me start by saying this series was a holiday treat! All four books in the Christmas in New York series published by Tule Publishing thru their Holiday Books community of writers were fantastic. Each was unique yet held the same feel good holiday heart-warmth you want to read this time of year!
Every single one of these stories gives joyful and true meaning to the term Serendipity or happy accident/a pleasant surprise. In this story, we have a moment in time 13 years before that leads to a chance meet present day. Thirteen years before, two teens met on a bridge. The boy gave the girl an crystal snowflake ornament and off he went into the night ..... And now it is 13 years later and we have out story :)
WARNING: This is a tough read at times because the events of 9/11 are featured strongly in the story. For me, there was some serious sobbing going on at times but there were also some seriously sweet moments as well. Perfect combination for a holiday reading treat!
Elena and Lucas have some serious baggage to get thru/over/put behind, whatever you want to term it, they must get past it in order to make room for a future together. When Elena comes home for the first time in 13 years to help her sister with the birth of her baby, she doesnt have any plans of staying. New York holds zero fond moments for her and it is tough enough just to be there for a month. Now Lucas wouldnt live anywhere else even if you paid him (as the saying goes). When they meet for the 'first time', there is an instant connection. Might that be because they have met before ? ;)
I'm gonna warn you and say most of you may not like Elena at first .... but give her time, she'll warm up to ya! Now Lucas is a different story. From the beginning he is the most patient and kind man you could ask for. He himself has a guilt ridden past to get thru as well, put he's just not so selfish about it.
READ THIS STORY .... YOU WONT REGRET IT!
One last thing I'd like to add. Even tho all four of these stories could be read as stand alone novellas, I highly recommend you read them in order. And this story has an Epilogue that involves all the couples from previous books so it would help to 'get it' if you read this one last :)
