Cheryl Contee's book is a great resource for those who think they may be an entrepreneur - especially women and people of color - and those who work with them.
Ms. Contee's book clearly explains the challenges all would-be entrepreneurs face in bringing an idea to market the unique challenges faced women and minorities. She then clearly explains how to overcome those challenges. In a perfect world Ms. Contee would have written her book before I started my own firm more than a decade ago (at one point I worked with Ms. Contee and her business partner on a project) - my venture would have been more successful.
At least as importantly, Ms. Contee explains to the rest of us who are not (or are no longer) starting companies and who don't face additional challenges that women and minorities face, how uphill the struggle for funding can be. Every chapter clearly spells out those unique challenges, and how the rest of us can help overcome them. The book is a reminder to focus on the idea, not what the person presenting it looks like or their academic background, and to notice the small things we sometimes don't see that offer that marginal difference between success and failure.
This is a good book for would be entrepreneurs, investors, and those of who work with them.
