Product Description

As the Runaway Train family gathers in Savannah, Georgia for the wedding of its last single member, Rhys McGowan, to Allison Slater, Jake's little sister, Rolling Stone magazine prepares an issue to celebrate the union. While focusing on the happy couple, they also sit down with Brayden and Lily Vanderburg for a feature on successful rock star marriages. After all, the two have been a couple since they were sixteen years old. But there is more to the story than meets the eye, and their love took a slight detour before finding happily ever after.

Told in flashbacks from the present to the past, Brayden and Lily share the story of their unbreakable love.

It was wonderful to finally get the story of Lily and Brayden who were already married with kids when this series began. I love the way it was written as a magazine interview! Despite having a very strong marriage this couple, highschool sweethearts, had been through many rough patches including a one year breakup. They finally reunite through a heartbreaking tragedy and go on to be the couple we know. Another great read from Katie Ashley!!

HASH(0xa3e86b34) out of 5 stars Another Katie Ashley hit! Oct. 8 2014

As everyone prepares for Rhys and Allison’s wedding Bray and Lily
are interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine. This is their story.
Not all relationships are built on hearts and flowers.
Some struggle with demons, some with infidelity while others struggle with
fame. For Brayden Vanderburg fame almost cost him the love of his life,
his soul mate, his first in so many ways.
His first dream was snatched away at his high school football game
then fate stepped in and gave him new direction…music.
Lily Gregson was caught stealing apples on the Vanderburg farm and it’s that
incident that cemented their future.
Lily’s dream, a school teacher, working with children, little did she
know that one day, one of her own would need the nurturing of her
Lily and Brayden’s story is just another reason I keep reading Katie Ashley
novels. She teases you with steamy love scenes then has you crying when
you least expect it. One scene in Vegas (no spoiler) brought back a character
I adored and I’m glad the tissues were nearby.
I was shocked by the violent and heat breaking event (again no spoiler)
that reunited Brayden and Lily.
I’m relieved the author didn’t elaborate on Lily and Brayden’s year apart, his less
than faithful period when drugs and alcohol consumed him.
I didn’t want the play by play of him, prick dipping.
To me he is the ultimate family man, husband and father. That’s
how I want to remember him as not a douche bag rocker.

It’s hard when a series you love ends, I enjoyed Jake the man-whore,
AJ, the Latino lover, Rhys, the southern gentleman and Brayden, my hero, the boy wonder
who was able to achieve it all.
When one series ends, another begins and 2015 is promising new series with new genres.
It’s going to be a good year!

HASH(0xa3e89768) out of 5 stars 4.5+ stars! Loved getting the full story of Brayden and Lily and more with the whole crew! Oct. 7 2014

“But you gave me the melody I never knew I had...The melody straight from my heart.”

We have admired Brayden and Lily's strong relationship through the whole Runaway Train series. They are the established couple, the parents, the stable ones, the couple you aspire to be. But now we get to listen to them reminisce about their younger days: meeting, courtship, proposal, and hard times. It was not always easy and perfect for these two, but we know they came out stronger in the end,

I've always loved Brayden. And now we not only see him as the devoted husband and father, but we also get to know the endearing romantic, young man at sixteen and a bit older. And we also get a glimpse at what sudden fame and fortune can do to an even a normally level headed guy.

And we see various sides of Lily...sweet, sassy, innocent, sexy, and strong. She was devoted to Brayden and his dreams, but also had her own. She felt the stress of their differing life paths. And when he changed too much to be the man she had fallen in love with, she had to find her inner strength and make choices to protect herself.

Told in past and present in both points of view, we follow them through good and bad times over the years. I loved their sweet, romantic moments and milestones, and my heart also broke with their challenges, struggles, and pain. But it eventually comes down to fighting for what is most important and what is needed to be truly happy. The strength, love, and devotion of this couple shines through. This was truly a journey for them.

“I’ll always fight for you, Lily. I’ll always fight for us.

It was not only a journey for them as a couple, but really for the whole band as well. I loved seeing the younger band and their interactions as well as seeing them mature. They are so funny when they taunt each other, but there are also some underlying dynamics we never really knew. And the foreshadowing to the other guys' stories is funny because in the past they all think they are immune to love and want no part of it. Little did they know...

Seeing the beginning for both this couple and the band gives us new perspective and knowing all of the challenges they went through makes where they end up even more special. And speaking of where they end up, we get to see a bit more into the future after Strings of the Heart left off with Rhys and Allison.

There were some memorable times that made me sigh and smile. And there were parts that made me sad or angry. But overall, it was sweet, heartfelt, funny, passionate and emotional. I truly love these characters and their relationships. They really are a family that has weathered storms together. I hate to see the series end and let these characters go. I am pushing for a continuation of the series about their offspring. Hear that Katie?! Never say never.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

HASH(0xa3dbc690) out of 5 stars The Runaway Train boys have runaway with my heart ... Oct. 27 2014
By Gone Readin' - Published on

I love the entire Runaway Train family. This is truly a beautiful story that gives a complete look at the how Runaway Train boys first got together. The story is told as Brayden and Lily sit down in Savannah with Rolling Stone magazine for an interview about marriage, and raising kids on tour. The whole group and their families are in Savannah for Rhys and Allison’s wedding. The entire story is told through a series of flashbacks, which begins with Bray and Lily’s first meeting, and carries us through the trials and tribulations of fame and life on a tour bus. Ms. Ashley surprised me with how and why Brayden first picked up the guitar, and shocked me even further with some of Brayden’s early behavior in the relationship. Even though we “know” Brayden and Lily have a very happy marriage, I was completely sucked into their early drama. Ms. Ashley’s seamless writing keeps their journey fresh and engaging. It was also interesting to get to know Jake, AJ and Rhys in their early days. I kind of didn’t like Jake much in this book, but realize that was Jake’s character before Abby. The boys’ relationship with Lily is nicely woven into the overall story. Bray and Lily’s wedding is delivered with just enough humor to be funny, but still allowed for a romantic moment to blossom in Las Vegas. Finally, I love how Ms. Ashley finds a way to create interest into a cause such as Autism. I found learning all about Bray and Lily’s children, and their extraordinary romance made me a believer in first love. The ending was over-the-top sweet and romantic as the two are given a spotlight dance at Rhys and Allison’s wedding. There are some minor editing issues that I’ve never seen in a Katie Ashley book before – but not enough to overshadow this sweet, romantic, dialogue-driven love story for Brayden and Lily. The best news yet – Eli of Jacob’s Ladder (Abby’s brother) will be featured in the The Jacob Ladder series due out in 2015. Which means … the boys of Runaway Train haven’t left the building!

There were a few mistakes, extra words left in, others not there. The biggest was their ages, they were the same age but at one point it was said Brayden was 24 when only a few pages before they were both 23. Then Bray said Lily was 22 when he found out she was pregnant. Just a few things that editing should have caught.
Overall though the story was good, seeing why they had broken up was rough. I was really disappointed at Brayden' s behavior. He was damn lucky that Lily was so forgiving, especially with him being there with some chicks scratch marks down his back.
I think the perfect song for that time in their lives is Stay by Black Stone Cherry.

In many ways this story reminded me of my husband and myself. He was a navy seal and my first serious boyfriend. Seals can become very cocky and arrogant and he had always been the strong silent type and his attitude left me heartbroken. Thank God drugs or alcohol were never an issue, but that was more because he had to be in peak and was tested regularly. His biggest attitude change was all the damn female hero worship. My husband was shy, sweet, loyal, gentle, attentive so many special qualities and for a time he lost his was and I nearly gave up on him because he seemed like a stranger's when he was gone on a mission I went home to my mom for a visit. I had tried so many times telling him how I was feeling but I could not get through and I was done, but just found out I was pregnant and refused to raise a baby with a man who had begun to not care about my feelings. When he returned and found me gone it woke him up especially when a traitor military wife told him I was pregnant. He wanted to be a dad more than any man I had ever met and he was finally realizing how much he hurt me and what it felt like to hurt. That man swallowed his pride and begged for forgiveness and for me to come back home. I gave him that second chance because " the real him was worth it". That was twenty three years ago and I am so happy I made that choice. My hubby is still my handsome and most importantly humble other half and we are incredibly happy and very blessed. Our son has grown into a very special young man.

This book was special in many ways. It was sweet, poignant, and beautifully written. It was also simply close to my heart. It made me feel because it made me remember and once again realize that nothing is harder to live with than regret. So this story will hopefully show people not to just give up on something or someone that they really want without a fight because life may seem short until you live day in and day out knowing someone else is loving what could have been yours.
