WOW where do I begin to tell you what an AMAZING read this was!!!!! It was amazing in every sense of the word. This story was beautifully written by the BRILLIANT Kim Karr and let me tell you she did it again....she captured my heart and soul right from the beginning at page 1. This book is part of the Connection Series where it follows the life of Xander and his first true love Ivy. They were high school sweethearts and eventually went their own ways until they meet up again 12 years later. Ivy is a singer and joins the band The Wilde Ones managed by Xander Wilde. Xander quickly realizes that his love for Ivy has never been more real after all these years but getting her back into his life has proven to be a difficult task. Without giving too much away, we see a man on a mission to "mend" a first love relationship. This story is full of love, hope, happiness and yes sadness as well. It is so heart felt that it keeps your attention the whole time you are reading it. It was full of so many will make you laugh, cry, shout, scream but most of it will make you believe that true love definitely does exist. Kim Karr's writing style is both brilliant and flawless where her characters come alive and you feel their story through the pages. I love how the characters in her other books make an appearance and how their stories are all intertwined. This story is definitely a five star must read and you will be more then happy to make the "connection" in the wonderful world of Kim Karr.

: 4.25 stars: MENDED is the third full length storyline in Kim Karr’s contemporary, new adult Connections erotic romance series. This is Xander Wilde and Ivy Taylor’s storyline. Xander is the band manager for The Wilde Ones’ and Ivy is the woman he loved and lost over tens years ago. While preparing for their upcoming tour the band’s lead singer will be forced to take some time off and Ivy offers herself up as the group’s new lead vocals. Told from alternating first person POV (Xander and Ivy) the novel is a combination of past, present, dream sequences and flashbacks.

The focus of the story is a second chance at love for Xander and Ivy. High school sweethearts and lovers, Xander and Ivy’s relationship would be destroyed by a mistaken belief and family tragedy. Fast forward over a decade later and Xander’s feelings for Ivy have never faltered but Ivy is now promised to another man-one whose aim is to destroy the band and the Wilde family.

Kim Karr pulls the reader into an emotional and tragic tale of first loves, secrets, family rivalry, and betrayal. The Connections series comes full circle with the revelations of the past, the present and possibly the future. Dark and painful secrets will be revealed that will crush a man’s heart when everything he knows to be true has been built upon a lie-a lie that will affect not only his life but the woman that he loves.

The world building continues with the inclusion of the previous storyline characters including The Wilde Ones band members and family.

HASH(0xa84ad65c) out of 5 stars Mended was the perfect blend of Karr’s wonderful sexy writing and an intriguing plot. June 3 2014
By Dark Faerie Tales - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Mended was the perfect blend of Karr’s wonderful sexy writing and an intriguing plot. This was by far the best book in the series!

Opening Sentence: A black Jetta with heavily tinted windows swerves around the corner and comes to a stop in front of me, blocking my path as I walk through her school parking lot.

The Review:

Xander Wilde is extremely controlling and has his life planned out. He loves being a manager for Wilde Ones, but when something happens to his lead singer right in the middle of their tour he is stuck in a bind. They need a new lead or the tour is going to have to be cancelled and the only one willing and available is the only girl Xander has ever loved. But years ago he let her go and he broke her heart and he hasn’t seen her since. He knows that he doesn’t deserve a second chance but seeing her again has brought up all those old feelings and he can’t help but try to peruse her again.

Ivy Taylor’s life hasn’t turned out quite like she planned. She always wanted to do music for a career but after her devastating break up with Xander when she was younger she took a different road. Instead of doing the soulful music she loved she became a rising pop star and started dating Damon Wolf, a very prominent man in the industry. Eventually they become engaged and she quits her music career. She thought she was happy until she runs back into Xander and realizes that the life she has isn’t the one she wants. But cutting ties with controlling Damon is harder then she thought it would be and possibly hazardous to the people she cares about most.

Ivy had her good and bad qualities, but her flaws left her with lots of room to grow. She is very talented and even though her family didn’t treat her very good growing up she still helps support them in any way she can. She is very insecure when it comes to men which is understandable after the relationships she has been in, but I also felt she was a little naïve at times. She is very self-sacrificing and will go to great lengths for the people she cares about in her life and I found that admirable but also frustrating at times. She doesn’t communicate very well and that leads to unnecessary drama. Overall, I liked Ivy and felt that she was a easy character to connect with.

I am going to be honest, I wasn’t really a huge fan of Xander in the first two books in the series because he always seemed like a jerk. But luckily you get to see a whole different side to him and I ended up really liking him. Yes, he is very controlling and doesn’t always think about what his actions will do to others, but deep down he is a very caring person that has a lot of regret. He blames himself for a lot for the bad things that has happened in his life even though it really wasn’t his fault, and this just broke my heart. The more I got to know Xander, the more I liked him. His has that protective streak that seems to run in the Wilde family, but he also has a jealousy problem as well. He doesn’t always control his temper the best, but in the end I felt he was a very realistic character. I was glad that I got to know this side of Xander, it made me understand him so much better.

Mended was the book I have been waiting for ever since I started this series. Karr does such an amazing job writing sexy times in her stories, but in all the previous books that was really all there was. In this book there is actually a very interesting sub-plot that kept me much more intrigued with the story. I loved that you got to reconnect with the characters from previous books, but it was also really refreshing to have new characters enter the story. This could easily be a standalone if you don’t want to read the previous books. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series and hopefully they continue to get better. I would recommend you give this one a try if you like lots of drama, passionate romance, and an intriguing plot.

Notable Scene:

“Right. Okay, see you tonight,” I say and end the call. My head is spinning from knowing that after all these years I’m actually in the same place she is. I want to talk to her, tell her everything, but I can’t see how that would change anything anyway. Glancing behind me, I catch another glimpse of the two of them that turns my stomach. He’s such a slimeball. Since his father was hospitalized and he took over the business, he’s been scooping up labels, tearing them apart, and rebuilding them with bands he thinks are better fits. My guess is he picked up Jane’s label— that’s why he’s here. I heard they were having some financial difficulty, and he’s just the kind of bottom- feeder that would want to capitalize on being not only Jane’s agent but now also her producer. The sight of him touching Ivy makes my skin crawl.

Damon Wolf, now turned music mogul, is the agent to a select few stars. Damon Wolf—two of the last words my father spoke to me before killing himself, and I never knew why. Of all the guys in the world Ivy had to end up with— why him? I look up and they’re gone. I’m anything but relieved, though. Rubbing my chin, I’m antsy, agitated, pissed as hell, but I feel more alive than I have in years.

FTC Advisory: Intermix/Penguin provided me with a copy of Mended. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

HASH(0xa84adea8) out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful June 3 2014

Format: Kindle Edition
The very much-anticipated next book in Kim Karr’s Connections series is finally here. Not only does it have an amazing cover, it also is an amazing story. Who could ever go wrong with a book featuring Xander A.K.A. River’s , wiser, and sullen older brother. Lets not forget devastatingly handsome! Xander and Ivy’s have a true love story! They will steal your heart, make you laugh, and also make you cry. Mended holds the perfect spot as book three in the Connections series.

Xander and Ivy met in High School where their romance started. They fell in love and made plans for their future. High School sweet hearts isn’t even the correct term to describe them. What they had meant so much more! When tragedy Struck Xander had to put his future on hold and let Ivy go. A decision that was not made lightly, but one that had to be made. Giving up your one true love was the hardest decision Xander had to make. One he hasn’t been able to let go of. Fast forward twelve years. Things with Xander seem to be perfect. Then suddenly Ivy is back in his life and all his old feelings come back stronger than ever. Managing the Wilde One’s with Ivy joining them on tour isn’t the worst thing to have happened. Only if Ivy didn’t hate Xander, and she wasn’t engaged! Will Xander and Ivy get a second chance at the love they left behind? Or will the secrets and mistakes of the past stand in their way?

Powerful, riveting, irresistible, inspiring, and climatic are all words to describe this book. I felt like I was transported into a movie, but better. We get two sides of Xander and Ivy’s story. Two POV’s and plenty of flashbacks to get you right into the heart of their story. Not to mention we also get a peak at what has been going on with River and Dahlia since we saw them last. I call that a win win!

I have to point out that the Wilde siblings have a strong bond. We see at what lengths they will go for one another. I thought Xander and River showed us the meaning of brotherly love. All in all this story is about them and what finding their one is all about. You can’t ask for anything better than that.

The scenes in the book with Xander and Ivy were spot on. I could understand their dynamic and why they worked so well together. Both put their family ahead of their happiness. Two people with the same great big heart trying to find their way. That’s poetic indeed! Maybe a little sad. Out of all the characters so far these two are the ones who deserve a happy ending the most. I felt all their inner struggles and I wanted more for them. So much more!

Mended had all the greatness you would expect from this series. I love these characters and their stories. They are hopeful, sincere, and so moving. To quote another one of Kim’s characters “perfect really.” Another must read and I’m sure this is just a warm up to what’s to come. The whole story as a whole is unfolding in each book and I just can’t get enough. I can’t wait for more!!!

HASH(0xa2df3270) out of 5 stars Great addition to the Connections series Feb. 4 2015
By akiiKOMORI reading - Published on
Format: Paperback
When reading novels about rock stars, celebrities, musicians and actors you usually read about them. What you rarely read about is a story about what goes on behind the scenes – about their managers and the people who take care of them. Mended is the love story revolving around the Wilde Ones manager, Xander Wilder, and the one who got away, Ivy Taylor. Or should I say, the one he let go. This novel is the PERFECT combination of romantic, sexy, and dramatic. It also shows you another side of the music industry you may not even know about, and reveals a big secret about the Wilder family.

Eighteen year-old Xander Wilder was only concerned about one thing – his beautiful, smoking hot girlfriend, Ivy Taylor. Ever since he first laid eyes on her he knew that she was something special, that there would never be another girl for him. But sometimes fate can be cruel and unforeseeable circumstances can pull apart the strongest of lovers. Because sometimes, when you love someone the best thing you can do for them is let them go.
Twelve years later, fate intervenes again and brings these two ex-lovers back together for a chance meeting. Ivy is now a rising star, engaged to her agent, Damon Wolf, and has become the lead singer for the Wilde Ones. Xander knows he needs to stay away but their history keeps pulling them back together, and sooner or later he knows he’s going to have to tell her the truth about what really happened the night he let her go. Both of them can’t help but feel the bond and the connection they share and it’s just a matter of time before they realize how much they need each other and mend what they’d broken.

Let me start off by saying I really enjoyed this novel, a lot better than I enjoyed Torn.
Xander and Ivy had so much depth to their story and so much history. I didn’t feel like it was romantic as Connected but it still had A LOT of merit that the first book didn’t.

I loved the history between Xander and Ivy, and I’ll admit to loving the drama. Certain drama makes for a good story, and makes for a good recovery. There was a lot of feelings being thrown all over the place; Xander not being able to control himself around Ivy, Ivy trying to be her own independent woman and keep Xander away, I mean come on…it was SO OBVIOUS they wanted each other, even when she was trying to friend-zone him. Eventually they got back together (yay!) and the truth about what happened finally came out.

“Look at me, Ivy,” he commands, and I do. “You know why you said it – it’s because ou feel the same way I do. Look, we could only play the game – pretend we both didn’t feel what we felt the minute we saw each other at the poo, but I’d rather not. I loved you when i was fourteen. I loved you when I was eighteen and had to let you go. I’ve loved you for the last twelve years. And I love you now. Ivy – I love you.”

Personally, my favourite part wasn’t them getting back together, or the amazingly, hot, steamy, sex between them, but it was the side story, all the extra stuff about the Wilder family. The stuff I found most interesting was stuff about the music industry, about who owned what, all the secrets, the lies, the betrayals, and the BIGGEST SECRET that would change Xander forever (but I’m not going to tell you what happened because spoilers). I will admit I enjoyed the drama, and the use of a ‘bad-guy’ in this book. I think it gave it a lot more depth and an insight to how vicious the music industry can really be.

Mended was a great addition to the Connections Series by Kim Karr and a great read. Xander isn’t like your typical, hot artist/musician/famous type of male. He’s not the centre of attention, he’s just going with the flow, trying to keep his band together, to reach their full potential, and it just so happened the one that got away had somehow found her way back to him. Some of it seemed to drag on and was a little slow, but once you get to the halfway point everything picks up.

HASH(0xa2747054) out of 5 stars second chances at love and mending the past but does true love prevail June 26 2014
By Jody Fraleigh - Published on
Format: Paperback
Destiny is real. MENDED by Kim Karr is a story of family secrets, destiny, second chances at love and mending the past but does true love prevail? Are old wounds mended? Early in Kim Karr’s Connection series, we are introduced to Xander Wilde, rock star River Wilde’s brother and immediately I felt a connection to him. There was something there that drew me in. I wanted to know his story and thankfully, Kim answered the call. Mended is Xander’s story and is one you all want to read! He is given a second chance at love with the girl who stole his heart years ago, Ivy Taylor, a beautiful, talented singer. Flashbacks of their early relationship provide the perfect backdrop. The romance, the sexiness, the intensity, and the realness are immediately felt. Unfortunately, circumstances happen and as a result, unspoken words lead to misconceptions. Although Xander’s intentions were good as he only wanted to protect the girl he ever loved, they parted with Ivy thinking the worst. Years later their paths cross. The attraction is real and raw… “My body floods with adrenaline and my gut twists. I don’t even have to do a double take because I’d know her anywhere. There’s no mistaking her. She’s just so beautiful, the elegant planes of her face, those high cheekbones, red lipstick, her platinum blonde hair shorter than it used to be tucked behind the ear, the face of an angel…When she moves it’s so familiar it doesn’t seem like a day passed-and everything I ever felt for her, it’s all still inside me.” Although Ivy has moved on and is committed to another man, there is no denying Xander is her true love. Ivy too is taken back when she first sees Xander, “Confusion riled deep within me but I couldn’t resist setting my sights on him again. I tried to steal a glance but he had turned around. A hint of a smile crossed my lips. God he was magnificent –broad shoulders, lean waist, toned arms. He was overpoweringly beautiful and I wanted to feel him all over me.” Fate takes over and Xander and Ivy are back in each other’s lives but on a professional level…holy frustration. At times the sexual tension was unbearable so much so I found myself shaking and screaming at my nook. Let me tell you though, the wait is so worth your while because once these two let their guard down and give in to their feelings for each other…OMG…HOT, RAW, ELECTRIC and oh so INTIMATE!!!! Xander needed to come clean with the real story to clear his name and then everything would be ok, but would it…and if so, would it be enough?
Once again Kim Karr brilliantly brings her characters to life where they will remain in her readers’ hearts forever. Xander is everything a woman would want in a man, sexy, handsome, smart, sensitive, compassionate, ambitious, creative, and strong and did I say SEXY???!!!!! Well I’m saying that again!!! Ivy, is beautiful, sexy, sensual, strong and the perfect match for Xander. Their love is REAL!!!! MENDED by Kim Karr is more than a “goodread”, it is a “GREATREAD”, a MUST READ!!!!!

HASH(0xa273d51c) out of 5 stars Kim Karr masterfully writes another truly beautiful and heart-wrenching love story June 18 2014
By Smut Book Junkie Book Reviews - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Kim Karr masterfully writes another truly beautiful and heart-wrenching love story that reminds us that when you love something you have to set it free and if it does not come back to you it was never yours to begin with but if it does return to you it will be yours forever.

The hardest thing that Xander Wilde ever did was walk away from Ivy. Due to an unforeseen tragedy he felt that he had no choice but to let her go. Ivy had an amazing voice and was extremely talented and Xander wanted her to go after her dream. He would not share all of the burden he was having to carry because he loved her more than life itself. So when she thought she saw him cheating on her, he let her believe it.

Fast forward 12 years. Xander and Ivy cross paths at the hotel Xander and the Wilde Ones are staying at. One look at each other has their hearts racing and they are both made aware of an ache that no one has been able to fill since they parted from each other. Xander and Ivy have chemistry that cannot be denied. Even though it has been 12 years it feels just like they were together just yesterday.

You can only imagine what happens when Xander's lead singer gets sick and Ivy steps up to take the role. She is still angry at him and wants nothing to do with him but when they are so close together it is almost impossible to deny the gravitational pull that brings their bodies crashing into each other.

Kim takes you on a rollercoaster ride once again. Just when everything looks like it is going to work out the rug is ripped out from under you. She does this in a way that you know it is coming but you have no idea how it is going to happen. Then she reveals deep dark secrets that will shock you to the core. Bravo Kim! I absolutely adored this story and the Connected Series just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for Blurred and Frayed!
