Here's what some parents have told us:
"Again, very happy with this Kidalog product! Our baby boy just LOVES this thing. It keeps him entertained for an hour straight and for a 5 month old, that's a REALLY LONG TIME for a baby to be content on their own. It's design is wonderful in that it doesn't squish them. The metal hoop keeps pressure off their body, and the seat / harness gives them terrific support. If he gets tired, he just leans back and rests. It's FANTASTIC. Money well spent in my books! A+++ product! Don't forget to buy the Kling Clamp with it!" Thomas Christoph

we purchased this jumper after reading all the glowing reviews. i suppose we had hoped that we'd put our baby in the Merry Muscles Jumper expecting that he'd be entertained for almost an hour. he enjoys it for about 15 - 20 minutes tops and then gets impatient. my theory is that he's simply the kind of baby that would much rather be held than put in a jumper. fair enough. not the jumper's fault... but i think the other reason that he gets frustrated is that the front portion of the jumper comes close to his face so he either bumps his face into the front ropes and plastic fasteners or they come so close to his face that he's distracted or frustrated. i'm pretty sure we have it set up properly. plus, our baby is not small. he's pretty tall for his age. you can see it in the product photo. now imagine the baby jumping around. it's like having a fly buzzing around your face that you want to swat away but can't...
i also didn't expect to make so many adjustments to get my baby to sit in it properly. for the first few tries, he seemed to lean all the way to one side. not a big deal to adjust. just not something i had expected.
i WILL say that now that we have the hang of getting our 6-month-old in and out of the jumper, for the 15-20 minutes that our baby is jumping around, he IS indeed happy and excited to be in the upright position. therefore, i don't have any regrets over my purchase. this is a well-made product... safe and adjustable. i still think it's worth it. i also recommend getting the Kling Klamp so you can move the jumper to different doorways in your house.
the day after i wrote my review, my baby lasted about 45 minutes in the Merry Muscles Jumper without me doing anything different to change the set-up! #2 - then the day after that, i received a call from the folks at Kidalog who make the Merry Muscles Jumper. the rep was very sweet and gave me some tips on how to make certain adjustments to make my baby more comfortable in terms of tilting him further back to prevent his face from banging into the front bib. most importantly, i discovered that i had not followed the instructions properly. LOL! it turns out that i had failed to unstitch a certain seam which was causing him to lean in too far to the right. can't wait for him to try it out again tomorrow. i am definitely a happy customer and appreciate the Kidalog customer service!
having the Kidalog rep walk me through the adjustments for this product was a huge help. i realize now that i was way too impatient to get it all set up and overlooked some key adjustments to getting the jumper to be balanced and sized properly for my baby. the jumper is now tilted back more. the carrier is now snug and balanced around my baby to keep him from leaning too far to one side. the bib still comes close to my baby's face but not to the point where he's wacking himself every time he jumps around. we will be traveling this summer and we'll definitely bring the Merry Muscles with us! i would definitely recommend this product to other parents with young babies. don't make my mistake! DON'T FORGET TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! :D
On receiving the package, there is some minor assembly required in order to get the bungee cord from the chair attached to the metal chain. It was a bit confusing to figure out how to get the safety pin and all of the parts to play nice. For someone with weak hands, a disability, or not good at assembly... it could be a big problem.
Once we got everything together, it took a bit of adjusting to figure out how high\low to put it. Our baby started laughing in the chair immediately. He knew something weird was going on... but couldn't put his finger on it. It took him a while to figure out how to bounce... but he quickly figured it out and has a blast in it. Our baby is very heavy (top 1% of babies in terms of weight and height) and it hasn't had any issues.
This product is great because the baby gets exercise and it helps keep them entertained. I will ask him if he wants to "bouncey bouncey" and he will start moving up and down like he is in the chair. We usually let him bounce around for an hour or so a day because he loves it so much.
I am a pretty big cheapskate, so it was hard for me to justify paying $85 for a product that likely cost around $10 to manufacture, but there is a lot of value here as our son has already got hundreds of hours of entertainment out of it. It can free up parent's hands to do work get chores done. We loved it so much we ended up buying a second one for grandma's house.
Researching - Our son was bouncing in our laps quite a bit, so we decided it was time to get him a bouncer. This is obviously one of the best reviewed baby bouncers available, so we decided we would like to have a Merry Muscles for our son. Read about how the shipping takes a long time. Figured we could wait a few extra days...
Ordering - Simple. This is Amazon.
Waiting - Hope you have strong shoulder muscles, because you're going to WAIT to receive this thing. Wait...wait...then wait some more. 18 DAYS (that's four days longer than 2 weeks!) after we ordered our Merry Muscles Jumper, we finally received it. Spoke to the business owner who assured us there is nothing she can do about it, unless you want to receive it in two days (for approx. $100 extra).
Package - It comes in a 16" square box that is 1" in depth. It will look slightly beat up, presumably due to shipping ALL THE WAY from Western Canada (Edmonton, AB). Don't let it scare you, the contents are fairly rugged...the box takes the worst of it.
Assembly - Be smart. Follow the directions. Read the instructions. To the contrary of a couple reviews, this is not a hard product to assemble. You're not going to "deface" your house (LOL) by screwing in the hook that is included. Get some wood putty and a little paint, when you remove it in a year or so, you'll never know it was there!
Bouncing - My son took about 10 minutes to get used to Merry Muscles. Then he started bouncing. Laughed the whole time. Eventually cried. Probably because he was tired. Brought him to bed. He's been out for two hours, which is longer than he's ever slept during a daytime nap. Exactly what we were going for. We look forward to using it multiple times per day. If things go anything like how other people describe, my son will enjoy Merry Muscles time as much as we enjoy watching him have fun and interacting with the world, not to mention finally having hands free to get the dishes done / cook dinner / fold laundry!
Overall - Excellent product, but order it EARLY because you will be waiting longer than you think for package to arrive. For that, I remove one star.
Can be used for younger babies than any other jumper. 2 months! We didn't buy ours till four months, but we definitely could have used it at two! Of course, you have to know your own baby...a baby who prefers to sleep most of the time who hasn't yet developed much muscle tone should never be in a jumper or any kind of baby seat. But our kiddo came out of the womb with great neck support (really, the nurses were amazed), so you really just have to know what your own baby is capable of!
Only jumper on the market truly designed to be ergonomic. Not that other jumpers are all bad, but if you really want one designed with baby's development in mind, it's an easy choice.
Environmentally friendly. Seriously. This thing is made mostly of canvas, bungee and steel, with only a few very small plastic parts (good sturdy plastic, not cheapo flimsy plastic) and it comes packaged in a flat cardboard box barely bigger than an LP cover. A far cry from the big plastic things that come in huge boxes with lots of styrofoam packaging. And it can be reused for several children.
Machine washable. Need I say more?
Very durable. I was concerned that the snaps might come undone, but these snaps are heavy duty. They're not going anywhere! The fabric is also very thick and well sewn. The construction is really quite impressive.
Easily transportable. Order a couple of extra hooks, or pick some up at the hardware store, and you can easily move it from room to room, or to Grandma's house, or wherever. I haven't used the Kling Klamp, but we didn't have a need for it. If screwed securely into an overhead wooden beam, the hook isn't going anywhere! My hubby tested it by hanging from the hook himself before we hung the jumper from it. I recommend this, since you want to make sure that not only is the hook secure in the beam, but the beam itself is secure on the ceiling. Probably especially a good idea in older homes.
Easily adjustable as baby grows.
Excellent customer service. I contacted the manufacturer to order more hooks and discuss the possibility of getting a second fabric seat, and they were extremely helpful.
And of course the best part: the babies LOVE it! At least our little guy sure did. Bouncing is fun! There are no bells and whistles, but I just attached little teething toys and crinkle toys to it with those plastic link thingees...kept him busy for quite awhile!
Only one, that it's really not terribly easy to get baby in and out of. It takes some getting used to. But once you get the hang of it, it is so, so worth it! And honestly this fact actually makes me feel even more confident about baby's safety...if I have a bit of a hard time getting him in and out, he's definitely not going to work himself out of it!
Overall, I highly recommend. Worth the money (and if you don't have that kind of money, I'm sure you could find one secondhand...really, it's that great!) I'm looking forward to using it for our second baby on the way!
Update, 2013: We moved into a new home, and the beam we screwed this into for our second baby had a layer of plaster coating. Because of this, we did not notice that the hook was slowly twisting its way out of the beam, which had NOT happened in our apartment! The hook fell one day and our little son fell, and was upset, but was not hurt (wasn't a long fall to the floor, and we had a mat underneath). He loved this bouncer so much, though, we decided to figure out a better way...our doors were too narrow for the Kling Klamp to be practical, so instead we bought an extra hook. We screwed both hooks into the beam as securely as humanly possible, right next to each other, and hung the chain from BOTH hooks. The two hooks linked by the chain prevent one another from twisting, and if one somehow manages to let go anyway, the other is there as backup. We've had no more problems.
