HASH(0xa8850894) out of 5 stars Emotions running high for these two now Aug. 29 2014

Finally! Relational progress is made! We finally get a really good glimpse at the inner Kyouhei in this volume.

Kaya is now under a longer term contract with Erde. Something is brewing inside Kyouhei. He doesn't hide things as well as he may wish. His blossoming jealousy is obvioius as she draws closer to her new boss. He wants Kaya to himself and his possessive side comes out.

He disappears for awhile and ends up leaving his family company to strike out on his own. While his purpose is not fully known I could tell one thing is certain. He wants Kaya back! I loved watching and reading as he comes to terms with some of his feelings. He is apparently having a hard time accepting them but he is at least starting to acknowledge them.

Kaya's loyalty is torn between her word and contract and her reputation as a secretary with her desire to assist Kyouhei. She is a very strong character and this creates an interesting mix with Alpha personality Kyoehei. Yet it is a quite, inner strength.

Again, the artwork is wonderful. I really do like how Tomu Ohmi creates the characters. How they stand even speaks volumes! Lots of subtle clues can be seen in body posture. And as a heads up, the ending has quite the manga-steamy adult scene!

*I received an eCopy of this volume from Viz Media via Edelweiss. Given in return for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own.*

HASH(0xa88508e8) out of 5 stars Their Relationship Hits Bumps Jan. 7 2014

Midnight Secretary Volume 3 ends at the midpoint of the series as Kaya grapples with holding down two jobs (secretary for Erde by day and secretary to Touma at night) while Touma wrestles with his debilitating need for his human assistant. There is also a short extra about Kaya's reasons to become a secretary while dealing with her baby face.

As Kaya overworks herself in order to provide a path back to working for Touma, she inadvertantly makes herself indispensible to Erde and sabotages her own plans. It will lead to a collapse and Touma deciding to not feed from her at night until she gets healthy again. But his two week abstinance turns into a mont and Kaya wonders if he's found another female with 'interesting' blood instead.

It is in Volume 3 that Ohmi's illustration style really firms up to better proportions and a softer drawing style. A bit shakey in volumes 1 and 2, by volume 3 she is comfortable enough with the characters to clean up her work and achieve a much needed consistency.

Of course, since this is a josei-title, Ohmi gets to increase the joyful smuttiness of Kaya and Touma's relationship, which appears to be more sexual than professional at this point. As well, Touma's machiavallian schemes are going to greatly impact Kaya and she's left with a difficult choice at the end of the volume.

In all, a more serious romp and the story continues smoothly and enjoyable. Received as an ARC from the publisher.

I was feeling a little burnt out on vampires, but I like the how the vampires are in this manga. I love that I can read these on my kindle which is why I bought the first one. I do like how the story is progressing and can't wait for the next one to come out.

[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

This series is going a little slow for me, but I’m still rather enjoying it.

I still like Kaya, and am looking forward to seeing where her stance is in the next volume. I want her to realize Kyohei’s feelings, and I want her to stay firm about her job. I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes in the next book.

I mostly enjoy the interactions between Kaya and Kyohei. There’s quite a bit of sex, and I’d like to see them just getting to know each other some more, although there was a bit of a dry spell between them in this volume. I don’t want to get too into that, but it looks like things will be looking up in the next volume.

I’m not really sure where this is going, mostly. I’m hoping it surprises me. I am liking the growing feelings between the two, though. How Kaya at least admits to herself how she feels, and how it seems like Kyohei is starting to accept his feelings. There were a couple of cute moments between them in this volume. I hope there’s more in the next one.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book. I want some more development between the two, and I hope it comes soon.

"Midnight Secretary" as a series moves at a brisk pace. This is why I love this manga because it doesn't stretch out the obvious. In Vol 3, Kaya and Kyohei are now lovers with Kaya moonlighting (literally) as Kyohei's secretary while still working for Erde.

Not that this making things completely smooth for the vampire/human pair. In fact, both are conflicted about their feelings. Is it just about food? Work? What do they mean to each other?

Also, Kaya's Erde boss is pretty darn attractive in his own right. And Kaya is stubbornly holding on to her position at Erde under the guise of "It is my job!" Which only makes Kyohei want to change her mind on that.

The art remains sexy and appealing and I have to note that this is probably one of my favorite volumes when it comes to Kaya's gorgeous wardrobe. I love how Tomu Ohmi draws clothes.

All in all, one of my favorite volumes of the series.
