As a Critical Care RN, this small but mighty book hit a chord when I read it at least 10 years ago. It has guided my practice ever since. I get something new out of it every time I pick it up. Countless copies have been shared with colleagues, friends, patients, and their families. Ms. Kalina's Catholicism does not detract from the solid clinical and spiritual information the book contains. Chapter 4-Signs of Active Labor-is especially valuable as it details the physical changes that occur during the dying process. This last year, "Midwife for Souls" was my large family's guide when our mother died. We were, literally, all on the same page, as the active labor of dying began. It was a sacred and beautiful time that I attribute to what we all learned by becoming "Midwives." I shared it with the hospice nurses involved with her care who did not know of this gem of a book. It has been a life-changing book for many!
I have been searching for another title by Ms. Kalina, "Living the Final Season," without success. Any assistance to locate it would be appreciated. With thanks! J. Kelly
