Product Description

When Detective Mike Sterling left the Chicago PD and returned to his hometown of Renlend Kansas, he tried to convince himself it was so his mother could stop worrying. The truth was, even Renlend wasn’t going to vanquish the dreams that tortured him at night.

When Taryn Watts landed in Renland Kansas to design a client’s new cooking school she intended to stay just long enough to do the job and then go right back to her life on the East Coast.

When Taryn and Mike found themselves sharing a booth, one thing was certain, neither one of them thought it was a good idea. Mike still wasn’t over his ex-wife’s betrayal, and when Taryn found out Mike was a cop she wanted to run all the way back to Connecticut and never look back, but she couldn’t… Sitting outside his home late at night she watches him fight against his demons. Demons she already had too much experience with firsthand.

When Mike finally admits there is no way to outrun his demons, Tayrn knows she’ll do anything, or be anything, to help Mike find his way back.

Mike had the perfect job. He was working in Chicago as a detective. If it hadn't been for his promise to his mother, he'd still be there. She wanted him home where she could keep an eye on him. The troubles Mike was dealing with didn't stay behind, they still haunt him.

The characters are strong and the writing solid in this book. I enjoyed the basic story very much. Being able to see the author drag Mike and Taryn out of their shells was terrific. I was right there with them as the romance grew. You'll enjoy this easy read.

I did find issues. The pacing of this book is a little too quick. I can't imagine things happening as quickly as the author said they did. The other problem is the characters are too perfect. No flaws. Nothing to have you rooting for the couple.

I gave this one 4 cheers out of 5 because of the issues stated. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

First thoughts after.....

Can't wait for Gabby's story!!!

How distracted did I get???

Mike's Way Home is a wonderfully sweet love story that Mike had me wrapped around his pinkie from beginning to end. Taryn is one tough chica but Mike may get through to the real her. Mike oh Mike, Mike, Mike.....I've had a book boyfriend crush on you since RTL~ Carter's Treasure. I love the alpha who is a cuddly teddy bear to the women in his life! Mike's a little spicy and worth every second!

A copy of this story was gifted by the author for an honest review.

I had never read Amy Gregory’s work before, and I had a bit of trepidation about signing up for this tour. The cover graphic is seriously breath-taking; who could resist that smoking bare-chested alpha man on the cover – but at the same time, I was worried it might just be one of those Harlequin-style romances that can be formulaic and more steam than substance. In this case, it was the title that drew me in. I wasn’t as interested in the romance aspect of the story than in Mike’s journey: Back? Back from what? Why? Would he make it, or would there be a cliff-hanging, tear-your-heart-out twist that might be interesting but unfulfilling?

I was unprepared to be as taken with this story as I turned out to be. I was immediately engaged by Mike’s endearing character, touched by the pain of his past, drawn in by his determination, and captured by his loving family. There was a simplicity about it all that made it feel easy, like reading a journal. When Mike sees Taryn for the first time, his reaction to her was so endearing and so intriguing – and hers was so carefully controlled (an yet not) – that I knew the pursuit would be both challenging and entertaining. Amy Gregory did not disappoint in that regard.

The beauty of this book – and, I assume, the remaining books in this series – is its simplicity and its utter sweetness. It’s surprisingly short, but the length perfectly suits the story and leaves the reader wanting more of this couple down the road, not unlike Bennett and Chloe in another endearing series. It is comforting in a way that’s difficult to describe. The characters are as well developed as they can be and the chemistry between all of the characters is charming. I loved Andrew and Scott as well. The humor and heart they brought to the story, their love for each other and for Taryn — again, simple, sweet and powerful at the same time. The sexual tension between Mike and Taryn is ever under the surface until “the moment” finally comes – and I nearly stood up and cheered, at that point.

I recommend this book – and the next one – to anyone who wants to truly relax and engage in a wonderful love story with a small-town feel, a caring cast of characters, and two imperfect heroes, learning about themselves by “becoming themselves” with each other. It is well worth reading and I look forward to more from Amy Gregory.

HASH(0xa5717834) out of 5 stars I need more!!! Nov. 25 2013

Mike's way back is probably my new favorite short. I can't give it enough stars to relay my love for this book. Lol Is 132 pages really enough for me? I don't know... I think I need to pull a Annie Wilkes and INSIST that Amy Gregory revisit Michael and Taryn. Okay, so maybe that is a little over the top for a short, but I seriously feel like we haven't even begun to hear their story. This book was like an amazing trailer for a movie that I know will be epic but I doubt we will ever get to see. *sad face*

I couldn't love this book more if I had written it myself and had a deep devotion to the characters. I LOVE these characters and this whole storyline. PLEASE bring back Mike and Taryn! I'll give you oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips thrown in the mix. ;) We need more.... you know, like MORE. Lol No pressure! :P

*uber Le sigh*

It was witty, sexy, funny, relate able, and who doesn't love two gay best friends? You really don't even know how much I loved this book. My husband will tell you behind a lot of teeth gritting, that I am over the friggin moon ecstatic over this book. Maybe if I shut up about it, he will throw me over the kitchen table and interrogate me like a saucy little minx too. drool

Start to finish it was all there. The beginning was solid, the middle was solid and the end was a grand slam. GO RED SOX!! There were a couple of places that I was sad that there wasn't a little more detail and I wish it hadn't cut into a mysterious phone call to gabby, but it's not anything that I would criticize the book for. There were no major inconsistencies and everything flowed just wonderfully.

If you want....
hot and steamy √
sarcastic and funny √
A little tears and some warm fuzzies √ √
a book to make you squirm in your seat √ √ √
to feel like YOU could be the heroine and actually want to be √ x10

Now go forth and buy this book! You won't regret it. Much love Amy Gregory and thanks for allowing me to fall in love with your fictional family. ♥

HASH(0xa5717d68) out of 5 stars A quick fun romance read Jan. 13 2016

I enjoyed reading this book, even for it being a short story. The author draws you in from the beginning and keeps you hooked until the end. You get to know about the characters and connect with them. The way the characters come together in this story is a little different then what I've read and I loved how the author did it.

Mike is a cop and when his life is on the line, he decides that he needs to move away from Chicago and go back to his hometown out of the city. He moves back and even though he is in his home town, he still battles the demons he has. When he sees Taryn in the bar, he can't help but want to talk to her and get to know more about her. He realizes that Taryn is not like other women and he feels more at peace when she is around. Now Mike knows that he must keep talking to Taryn even when she leaves his town to go back home. Mike will stop at nothing to make sure he gets Taryn.

Taryn's life hasn't been easy especially when your father & brothers are cops. She moved away from them as soon as she could. Now she is in business with her best friend Andrew as designers. When a job comes up in Renlend she goes down to research the new project. She meets Mike at a bar and when she finds out he is a cop, the uneasy feelings come back from her childhood. The more time she spends talking with Mike, she realizes he isn't like her father & brothers. She doesn't know what it is about him but she has the instant connection to him and feels at home around him.

You'll feel the connection between the characters and a love form between them. The chemistry is hot & steamy but what a spark. The way the characters come together and the more time they spend with each other, the more they realizes they want to be with each other. Overall, a good book.
