Mobster Romance Book (Free Mobster Book)
Gripping my chest is the only way to hold myself together or what’s left of me will fall out. The past week has enlightened me on one thing-I don’t care.
Megan, Mobster’s Girl

I didn’t even hesitate. I took two strides and blasted him in the face with my fist. He was ready for it this time-unlike in church. He tried to hit me back but I ducked and smashed him again.
Antonio, Mobster’s Girl

You can’t help what family you’re born into or what lies they keep from you. You can’t help it if they mold and shape you just the way they wanted. Are monsters born or made?

Antonio and Megan have a timeless issue. They were told to stay away from each other. They try, they really do. But they are drawn to each other.

Antonio is eighteen and the up and coming mob boss of Palmetto, New Jersey. Megan is a girl uprooted from the grassy plains of Ireland at the age of five. Now she’s seventeen and faced with horrors she never thought existed.

This is a fabulous book. The first thing I did after reading it was to buy Awakening the Mobster: Mobster's Series Book 2, by the same author, Amy Rachiele. She has written the story from two points of view, that of Antonio and Megan, we enter and live their lives. We read about an action on the part of Antonio, then read about Megan's reaction. We see what they see, do what they do and feel what they feel.

Antonio and Megan love each other, but barriers always seem to be in the way. Their futures are planned by their parents to take different directions. This story is romance, a plot with many twists and as one could expect with mobsters, drama with lots of violence -- a roller coaster of an emotional ride. I recommend this to everyone.

I don't read a lot of YA romances, but I do have a thing for heroes with a dark side, those heroes who somehow seem to combine some nice with a whole lot of bad boy. And Antonio is that hero.

He's sweet and I'd even say obsessed with the heroine, Megan. He wants only her, and has for some time. They are both seniors in high school, and from since they were very young, Antonio has been interested in Megan. Now, that he's older, that interest in her has turned into something deeper, something more mature, full of desire and need. I really got the feeling while reading this story that Antonio actually needs Megan. He is definitely one of those jealous, possessive heroes. And for just a young man, he is still a force to be reckoned with.

Antonio's dad is a mob boss in New Jersey, head of the family, and with all that entails, Antonio has responsibilities outside of school. It's violent, seeing him groomed and shaped by this mafia lifestyle. This is where we see the dark Antonio, the side of himself he calls a monster. One moment, he's breaking legs and noses, making people suffer, beating the crap out of whoever needs to be put back in line, and the next moment, you see the young man in love with a girl who seems to mean everything to him. He's buying Megan gifts, wanting to impress her, wanting her to love him and not be afraid of him.

I really enjoyed that contrast between Antonio's good side and his bad side. If you don't like a darker hero, one on the wrong side of the law and not afraid to get a little dirty, then you might not like Antonio. I really fell for him, questionable lifestyle and all, because with that ability to enforce his dad's rules, Antonio also has the ability to defend. No one bad mouths or disrespects Megan; Antonio will make that person very sorry. He's very protective of her, very sweet to her, and while there is no sex in this story, I totally felt their young love and that passion between them.

This story is told in first-person from both Antonio and Megan's POV, and that really added to the story. I really love to see and feel what my hero is going through. This added more depth to Antonio, allowing me to see the sweeter and softer sides to him. Also, I liked the reason the author developed as to why both characters' families wanted them to not be together. It wasn't until about 40% into the story that I first got an inkling about that twist/reason, and I enjoyed that.

There are editing errors and typos, but overall, those mistakes were not enough to pull me out of this story, from the enjoyment I was getting from it. I virtually kept my nose in this book all night tonight, caught up in seeing Antonio at school: when was he going to make a move on Megan? How would Megan react? What is her father going to do? What is going to pull them apart, right when they are just beginning, and how are they going to get back together, despite their fathers' interference?

Mobster's Girl ends pretty much when things are getting even more exciting and difficult. I had no idea this story would be continued, and I hated seeing "End of Part One." I want to know NOW what happens next. It says the next part, Awakening the Mobster, is coming soon, and I, for one, will be getting that book. I have to see what awaits Antonio and Megan on the next part of their journey. I have to say that the story and the action left me hanging but in the best sort of way.

Is Mobster's Girl a perfect read? No, it may not be perfect, but I personally really enjoyed it. If editing issues, a dark hero, and some violence (even a bit of it gruesome to an extent) bother you, and if continuing stories aren't for you, then you might want to skip this book. But personally, I'm glad I dove right on into it today. I loved that hero and can't wait to read the next part of the story. A good read, full of story and kept me involved.

HASH(0xa03e4c30) out of 5 stars My thoughts on Mobster's Girl (Read and penned review in June 2012) Dec 16 2012

I loved Tonio, the hero. Why? Cos he is gorgeous and talented and flat out top dog alpha male, he's the mob boss's son (in EVERY sense of the word!! be warned!) They call him lady-killer for a reason - although he isnt a man-ho, he makes smoking look sexyyyyyy, he is fixated on Megan, the heroine, the only gentling influence in his life. (He reminds me so much of Travis from Beautiful Disaster)

Lotsa lustful thoughts but no explicit scenes. The violence though, is typical of my idea of mobsters - no pulled punches here. He lives by his pop's motto: "Dont think, just do"

Megan is sweet, innocent and beautiful and perfect for Tonio.

I shouldve picked up on where the story was going but missed it because I was so fixated on their relationship and all the other good things about this story.

There is a sequel so watch out for the ending.

I worried about the lack of editing but not enough to put me off. I will be looking out for this author's books and hope the next one comes SOOOOON!

ETA for some good news: - the author says she has " the book, no content changes......"

HASH(0xa03e7084) out of 5 stars Needs An Editor! July 29 2012

Seriously? All these 4 and 5 star reviews, and not a single one mentions how AWFUL the editing is on this one?

I read about 35% before I found out there was a "Revised", edited version out.Yay, using paying customers as editors! So I picked up the "edited" version. The "O'Neill's" are still coming to dinner, she still walks "pass" her sister. The first paragraph is a bit smoother though.

Sentences flow a tiny bit better, but still often seem quite simple, like a kid would write. "I fire a shot into the air. It startles everyone. All eyes stare at me."

Still lots of skipped commas. "Connor is Erin's age fourteen".

Yep, the family still switches from "O'Neill's" in chapter 1 to "O'Connell's" in chapter 3. This author needs better free editors!

Hey, at least the guy learned how to intimidate people! At first, he "learned how to intimate people at a young age".

It really bugs me when paying readers are treated like free editors, but it bugs me even more when the "revised" edition isn't much better than the first one I bought!

I know people are probably going to complain that I didn't finish the book before writing this review. Well, the author didn't finish editing it before selling it to me, so I guess we're even.

Antonio and Megan have a timeless issue. They were told to stay away from each other. They try, they really do. But they are drawn to each other.

This story was very cute, even though maybe it shouldn't have been considering the topic. Megan and Antonio are like a modern day Romeo and Juliet in ways. They are attracted to each other and both of their parents tell them to stay away from the other, but they can’t help it. Even though this story is for the Young Adults, I still felt myself involved in the story. I was on Megan’s side and fighting for her and her love for Antonio, I know how difficult Irish parents can be.

Megan and Antonio were both likeable and strong characters. At the beginning of the story Megan seemed shy and quiet, but by the end of the story we saw another side of her that I really enjoyed. I liked Antonio’s character and all the passion that he exuded. He was so protective of not only Megan but of her sister Erin. Although this story had some editing mishaps, I was able to look past that and enjoy the ride that the author was taking me on. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
I would recommend this story to anyone who at one time may have felt like their families were keeping them from their dreams and anyone who enjoys a classic story of young love.

HASH(0xa03e7528) out of 5 stars mobsters and love June 22 2012

I haven't read a book like this one in a long time. I mean there are dozens of books on forbidden love or just opposite families being the barrier to 2 people in love but adding the twist of the Mob in there is classic! It was a fun read for me seeing as I know nothing of this world so it was fun to dive in and be a witness (haha) to all that goes around the mob family and also watch a young couples secret love grow. it reminded me of a cross between romeo and juliet and A Bronx tale (1993 Robert De Niro movie). I like that it was full of romance but we get to see that mob world and what goes on behind closed doors. I really liked Antonio and the way he thought (i love male POVS!) and I found myself trying to figure out who had betrayed his family! ( I have too many names on my list!). I also found myself completely bummed that it left me on a cliffhanger because well I'm kind of impatient and I wanted to know how it ends for Antonio and Megan but, that leaves us in anticipation for the next one! Great read! :)
