Product Description

TV's most brilliant detective is back, and he's ready to battle any crime… as long as it doesn't involve germs, heights or other people! Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub returns to DVD in all 16 third season episodes of the funny, fresh and quirky series, Monk. Rejoin Adrian Monk, the defective detective, who must overcome his obsessive-compulsive disorder and investigate the death of his wife, Trudy. Still hoping to be reinstated in the San Francisco Police Department, Monk continues to use his sharp intelligence, photographic memory and ever-present hand wipes to solve even the dirtiest cases. At his side are Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Lieutenant Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and newcomer Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard), and together they take on some daunting opponents, including the Mafia, the FBI and a possibly murderous chimpanzee. Monk's back on the case and better than ever in this hilarious third season, which includes five obsessive brand-new featurettes!

Monk is a quirky, intelligent show with a talented cast, and no season shows it better than Season 3. This season featured the departure of Bitty Schram as Sharona Fleming, to be replaced a short time later by the perky but persistent Traylor Howard. Fans who hate having to choose between the two can enjoy them both. Three episodes really stand out in my mind. Ted Levine, known for his understated portrayal of Capt. Leland Stottlemeyer, shows he can also do excellent physical comedy in "Mr. Monk and the Panic Room." The interrogation room scene wherein Levine tries to provoke a chimpanzee put me in stitches. Star Tony Shalhoub also steps outside his character's comfort zone in "Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine," wherein Adrian reluctantly tries a new medication and is reborn as an arrogant David Hasselhoff type, buying a convertible and calling himself "The Monk". And finally, "Mr. Monk Gets Cabin Fever", the episode that made me fall in love with this series. Jason Gray-Stanford gets a share of the limelight in an excellent subplot involving Lt. Disher, while the other cast members are forced to stay in a witness protection cabin. Hilarity ensues.

Some of the bonus features are not as long as they could be, but I'd still definitely recommend S3 for its quality content. The writers and cast really hit the mark in their third year of production, and it shows.

Witty. Strong development of the four main characters is the foundation on which shows crime solving plots are built. If you like Colombo and Sherlock Holmes you'll very probably enjoy Monk. Monk's eccentric responses to dealing with his Obsessive Compulsive traits arethe cause of much of the shows generally sensitive good humor, although occasionally stretched just a little far. Enjiy!!
