I never realized how many awesome creatures exist in the D&D multiverse until I bought this book.

Definitely a must-have for any Dungeon Master and I highly recommend it if you plan on creating exciting battles in your D&D adventures for you and your friends. Many powerful foes to choose from in this book and you can use the monster history/descriptions to write some interesting stories for the players to explore.

Simply amazing. Wizards of the coast has finally crafted the ultimate D&D experience with 5th edition. Look out pathfinder!! The granddaddy of them all is back and better then ever.

First off, all your old favourites are back in print thanks to us! Thats right. Wizards asked us what we wanted and they delivered. Even a few new monsters too!

Second, the art. It's beautiful. Mixture of old school fantasy drawings with modern age details, this book will have you wishing for some of the art to be converted into poster size.
Finally, the attention to details, stats, etc is well presented. Each monster has at least a page of info for it. Easy to use index, sample add on templates will make any gm's job easier. cant wait for the final DM book. Excellent work Wizards!!

An absolutely phenomenal step forward to the next generation of tabletop role-playing games - Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons. I love everything about all three core rulebooks, and everything about the game itself. The new rules, the old rules, the play and re-playability. It is just endless. The options that this version of D&D provide are just astounding. This is by far the greatest Monster Manual I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and now owning. Pick these books up. You do not want to miss out on the fifth edition of the mightiest tabletop RPG of all time.

loved it period. great art, stat blocks, descriptions how to run the monsters (and variation if they are in their own lairs). very cool! can't wait for MM2 if they make it. I got back into gaming after a couple of decades. played AD&D, and 2nd. got back into D&D when 4th came out. played that for a few months and hated it (I just played to hang out with good folks and roll dice). I took the plunge and picked up the newest iteration of D&D and absolutely love it. MM and Players handbook are the best version to date. IMHO. Listen I know there are edition wars out there, but I love 5th edition and will play it. I hope you have and play your favorite edition. I just want to say take a look at this edition and try a few games if you can. Cheers!

I've bought a few of these things from a few different publishers over the years but haven't "read" any of them, as opposed to pulling them out for consultation. MONSTER MANUAL 5th ed places the creatures in D&D lore and presents their history so well that I ended up actually reading the entries rather than simply skimming to the stat block. I don't thing I've seen the Lair Effect and Region Effect in an RPG monster book before - which would mean WotC managed to actually *evolve* the concept of a "manual of monsters." Kudos!

Animals and their dire versions are piled as quick references in the back of the book (does anyone require writeups on the ecology of dinosaurs? The diet of wolves? The intelligence stat of a bear?) which respects the page space and saves it for fictional beasties.

Really, the team's only oversight is the scarcity absence of appendices - there is, for example, no table of monster entries by challenge level - whereas PATHFINDER has 14 (you read that right!) at the back of their own BESTIARY.

Hasbro Inc. hardly needs my help selling these books at this point so let me just say to a prospective buyer: don't hesitate!

5E is doing a lot of things right, and the Monster Manual is a clear indication of that. Great art, very inspiring. Fun lore and clear stats blocks. D&D may not be the best game on the block anymore, but this and the rest of this edition are doing a lot to bring it back to the forefront of the hobby.

Beautifully bound with art that beats out the already well drawn PHB. The lore is fasinating to read and stats are clearly displayed for easy use of new and veteran players. The CR system makes it easy to set up encounters. Only criticism is that there is no CR index, only an aplhabetical table of contents.

Great product. Although no CR base table. You need the DM master guide to have those tables. Simpler than it's predecessor. Better presentation. Simpler. ONE BIG DEFAULT. IT IS FRAGILE (cracks and tears easily) AND THE INK COME OF ON YOUR HANDS. For those flaws, I only give it 3 stars.
