THE END OF THE WORLD STARTS AT MIDNIGHT. The forces of evil have returned to take over the world and there lead by Count Dracula and his band of monsters. Anyone who remembers "The Monster Squad" will definitely want to own this amazing two-disc 20th Anniversary Edition from Lionsgate/Maple Pictures. The performance given by the entire cast is terrific and "The Monster Squad" is just as entertaining as it was 20 years ago.

The word I would use to describe this 20th Anniversary Edition is magnificent. The newly mastered 16x9 Widescreen video transfer is absolutely incredible and it's given new life to this classic from the 1980's. This DVD version also includes a newly mastered 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack and it's excellent to say the least. The new 5.1 Digital Surround Sound adds a whole new dimension to this movie, something it definitely needed. Old fans as well as new fans of "The Monster Squad" are in for a real treat with The 20th Anniversary DVD edition.

Not only will you get an amazing movie with spectacular picture and sound, you'll also be treated to wonderful bonus extras on the second disc. In my opinion the bonus extras are informative and fun to watch and make this two-disc set worth owning. What's keeping you? Join the monster squad as they band together to rid the world of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, the Mummy and Gill-Man. This is a wonderful movie that the whole family can sink their fangs into again and again. Monster Squad Forever!!

It's important for people interested in reliving their 80s nostalgia to know what they're getting into with this latest BD re-issue of The Monster Squad. The current version stocked by Amazon with the cheesier 80s style movie poster illustration is not the first version of the film released on Blu-Ray. This 2013 re-issue has slightly better image quality, but no extras, no subtitles for the hard of hearing, and, for collectors, no extras documenting the making of the film. For sound buffs, this is also in stereo, so if you have a home theater set up up multiple speakers, they won't be getting used in this disc.

There is a 2009 Blu-Ray by Lionsgate that has a very *slightly* inferior image quality (average viewers won't notice the difference, only the image obsessed will pick up on it using the video equivalent of a fine toothed comb), and it does have a 5.1 audio set up, subtitles and extras. But that disc is out of print. If you're okay with a bare bones version of just the movie, in stereo, this will get the job done. If you want more feature-packed, home theater experience with extras including a commentary, try to track down the older Lionsgate version of this movie.

This is a great scary movie for kids and adults alike...
This little-known GEM of a film & one of my favorites with mostly a cast of unknowns. Stephen Macht (Graveyard Shift& many other stephen King films) & Jason Hervey (older brother, Wayne on Wonder Years) are familiar faces. A great kids frightfest that has the Creature From The Black Lagoon, Mummy, Wolfman, Frankenstein & a really hot & sexy Dracula with his female coven!
A passel of oddball kids fight the dark forces of evil in their small neighborhood with the help of Frankenstein & Scary German Guy (an old Germanic man that is a neighbor). Great plot, cool special effects, some excellent one liners & some wonderful child acting all make for a terrifc family frightfest! Check out the teacher in the beginning of the movie. The kids call her "Meow Mix" because her head is shaped like a cat's head! Great oddball writing in this movie makes it scary & funny!
Wonderful story! I just can't wait for this to come out on DVD!

I heard about this movie years ago, but for some reason I never got around to watching it until 2010, this was very weird for me because I'm a huge horror & Halloween movie fan!

The movie was quite entertaining & way different than I expected; I see why they call it a cult classic. They just don't make movies like this anymore! The whole premise holds your attention. In my opinion, it reminds me of a mix between "The Goonies" meets "Hocus Pocus" with a tad more of profanity thrown in there. I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who haven't seen it, but, if I remember correctly, there are some swear words & something about a virgin - just for those of you thinking it may be a good one for a young kid, I'd have a viewing before showing them, but hey, that's just my opinion. My friend & I watched this & had some great laughs. My only warning, the theme, "Rock Until You Drop" it will be stuck in your head for ages after watching this, so download it in advance!

I decided to buy this movie before even watching it because it was cheap & all of the reviews I read were really good. The Special Edition DVD is good quality, I didn't have any issues, the sound & picture were great. As for Special Features, I didn't investigate much, I rarely watch special features, so sorry for those of you reading to find out about that...

If you're a horror or Halloween movie fan, I strongly recommend this. You can't call yourself a true fan until you've seen all of the classics!
