Product Description

* * * WARNING: This book is for mature audiences only due to graphic violence, sex, and gore. The protagonist is not your typical perfect example of human morality. He struggles with his own demons. The Monster Within is superbly dark and twisted, and certainly not for all audiences.* * *

With more than three decades on the force, Detective King grows nearer to retirement every day. Thinking to coast out what time remains, he finds himself wrapped up in a brutal case unlike anything he’s ever seen before. Thinking he’s stumbled upon yet another serial murderer, he closes in as the bodies pile up but against his best efforts the killer remains a step ahead.

As the killer grows more bold, and makes his murdering spree personal, James struggles to ignore his own darker urges. Crime scene after elaborate crime scene he chases the clues only to uncover something he never could have imagined.

HASH(0xa1b40dc8) out of 5 stars No closure April 11 2015
By John S. Mays - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Most books in a series end by giving the reader closure to the main events of the book, and setting the stage for the next in the series. This book did not do that. There was no closure whatsoever. I felt frustrated and cheated. Additionally, there was too much gratuitous sex for my taste.

HASH(0xa24cf030) out of 5 stars was an excellent detective in his younger days on the force March 25 2015
By Ann Moran - Published on Amazon.com

The plot was OK but the murder scenes were a bit too graphic. These murder scenes, though a bit too bizarre, are not what I found appalling about the book. . It was the behavior of the leading detective. Stephen King. Detective King, soon to retire, was an excellent detective in his younger days on the force. It seems, Detective King solved these murder crimes but unfortunately; the solution was not included in this book. Despite my curiosity, I plan not to read book 2.

Detective King is definitely a pervert. Not only did he think about sex with young school girls but also took part in all kinds of sexual activities with young girls. Sitting in front of schools watching female students come and go is in my opinion a form of stalking. Yet, here is one of the city's finest doing it. I would hope no city or town employs such a detective on its police force. I finished the book quickly since I was able to skip so many pages devoted to Detective King's sexual activities. The description of these sex acts added nothing to the plot. It is unfortunate the author included such trash in this otherwise decent detective novel.

HASH(0xa1b40fd8) out of 5 stars I recommend it March 20 2015
By C N Sorrell - Published on Amazon.com

I really liked this book until I got to the end when I found it was a cliffhanger, which was frustrating. The plot was good, and kept me guessing, though I felt the detective’s reflections on the darkness and evils of humanity were a little overdone at times. The narrative was excellent, allowing the reader to feel they intimately knew the well-drawn protagonist. The crimes were bizarre and mysterious, provoking the desire to find the perpetrator and discover how he/she was staying ahead of the authorities. If you are aware that there is no resolution and you must continue with the next book, I can recommend it.

HASH(0xa24cf2e8) out of 5 stars The Fine Line Between Cops and Criminals March 21 2015
By Leanne Hoagland Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Laszlo has crafted a powerful in depth character of Detective King. King's own demons reflect the fine line between cops and criminals. Possibly there could have been less graphic sex, yet those scenes do reinforce King's own deviant thoughts. Personally I would preferred a solid ending to this "who done it" instead of having to purchase the next book.

HASH(0xa24cf348) out of 5 stars My opinion of The Monster Within Sept. 17 2015
By Judie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I would not recommend this book to Anyone. It doesn't have an ending, it uses foul language that adds nothing to the story as well as graphic sexual scenes. The story line is good but the unnecessary things I have already stated obscures the story.
