The Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty is a powerful tool for bushcrafters, hunters, and outdoorsmen with an extra-large ergonomic handle that has a patterned, high-friction grip making it comfortable to hold and easy to handle. The Companion Heavy Duty features a 4.1-inch (104 mm) blade of high carbon steel that is preferred in applications that demand durability. When the high carbon steel is combined with the classic Scandi grind it allows the knife to be easily re-sharpened when needed. The blade’s blunter edge angle of 27 degrees allows for maximum sharpness retention. The Companion Heavy Duty’s 3-layer injection molding and extra thick blade will perform well during high impact usage such as batoning or cutting wood. When used in wet applications, the blade should be dried after use to avoid blade corrosion and may exhibit a patina or natural discoloration over time through normal usage. You should also clean and oil your blade regularly, especially after it comes in contact with acidic foods like oranges. Includes a color-matching plastic sheath with belt clip. Overall length: 8.8 inch (224 mm); Blade length: 4.1 inches (104 mm); Blade thickness: 0.125 inch (3.2 mm); Weight w/ sheath: 4.8 oz. (135 g). Limited lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. Mora knives made from high carbon steel achieve high hardness, sharpen easily and are exceptionally tough. High carbon steels are preferred in applications that demand durability and frequent regrinding. The material is harder than stainless steel, allowing it to hold a sharper and more durably acute edge. Mora knives are made from high-quality Sandvik steel. Sandvik knife steels are characterized by ultra-fine carbides that result in superb forging and hardening properties. The absence of large carbide deposits promotes excellent edge sharpness for optimum cutting performance. Morakniv has been manufacturing the highest-quality knives in Mora, Sweden since 1891. Professionals worldwide trust the quality materials and fine craftsmanship of Mora knives. Mora knives feature ergonomically-designed handles and employ premium-quality knife steel that is optimally adapted to the task for which the knife is intended.

The sheath stores the knife only one way (for right-handed use) which is a bit of an issue for a leftie like me, but it's really not too big of a deal.
This is a very good knife for the price!!!
Now that I'm done with all the praises (that are well deserved), you should really consider your uses for this knife before purchase. It has a relatively short blade that make a lot of standard kitchen slicing tasks somewhat difficult. The "heavy duty" version is also quite thick making more delicate tasks like slicing vegetables a bit awkward yet it doesn't have a full shank so you don't want to put it through too much abuse. This knife is also made out of carbon steel which means that food preparation is not it's forte (since it can rust due to exposure to acids and liquids) but I haven't had too much of an issue with that if I wiped/washed the knife right after use.
I did do a test to see what happens with unprotected carbon steel blade like this though when you don't take proper care of it. I cut up an orange (one of the worst cases for carbon steel due to citric acid) and didn't wipe it for about 10 minutes. That time was enough to introduce significant staining that would not wash off. I used an extra fine wire wheel combined with a felt honing wheel and honing compound to make this life look like new in 5 minutes (all mounted on my bench grinder), but you may not have this setup as handy as I did. That said, the knife was still completely usable (just not as pretty) with the surface stains on it.Read more ›
The sheath is alright. It's nothing fancy or special but it does the job and so far holds the knife in really well. I like that it has a thumb knob to make removal with one hand much easier. And the belt clip is pretty sturdy. I usually just clip it right on to my pants as I don't usually wear belts. Since its plastic I am a bit worried that over time it will wear down and not hold the knife in as well. But there are lots of small easy sheath modifications you can do if this happens.
I was debating between the regular companion and the heavy duty one. I'm very glad I went with the heavy duty. For a little extra cost you get a much thicker knife.
The only thing I would change is adding a 90 degree angle on the spine so it can be used to strike my ferro rods. Their Light My Fire knives come with a fire steel and have a 90 degree striking spine but this version does not. I'm sure you could grind it down your self but I would prefer that it came ready to use.
