Product Description

Review

“With more politicians in climate science than scientists, the refining fire of debate has devolved into the burning of heretics. Alex Epstein’s The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels may make your blood boil, but his cool reason and cold, hard facts will lead us beyond hysterics to a much better future.”
PETER THIEL, technology entrepreneur and investor

“If you want to see the power of fine logic, fine writing, and fine research, read Epstein’s book. In my long career, it is simply the best popular-market book about climate, environmental policy, and energy that I have read. Laymen and experts alike will be boggled by Epstein’s clarity.”
PATRICK J. MICHAELS, director, Center for the Study of Science, Cato Institute

“Alex Epstein has written an eloquent and powerful argument for using fossil fuels on moral grounds alone. A remarkable book.”
MATT RIDLEY, author of The Rational Optimist

“In this brave book, Alex Epstein provides a clear, full-throated response to the catastrophists who want us to replace nearly all of our existing energy systems with expensive, incurably intermittent sources like wind and solar. We need more people like Alex who are willing to make the case for hydrocarbons. As Alex shows, those fuels are allowing billions of people to live fuller, freer, healthier lives.”
ROBERT BRYCE, author of Smaller Faster Lighter Denser Cheaper

About the Author

Alex Epstein started the Center for Industrial Progress to offer an alternative environmental philosophy to America, one that is antipollution but prodevelopment. A popular speaker on college campuses, he has publicly debated leading environmentalists. He lives in Orange County, California.

Great book! Builds a strong case for why we need to stick with fossil fuels and why the arguments against are without merit. World devastation if we were to run away from fossil fuels right now. Can't believe those who are arguing against fossil fuels are so ignorant. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has any doubts about what our governments are trying to force down our throats.

Great book. The author makes a case that others so far have avoided. Or so it would appear. In Epstein's rendering of the anti-oil movement, opposition to fossil fuels ignores the social costs of withdrawing from their use. To do so is a moral failure because of the incredible social effects of doing so. There is no mitigation of those effects by solar panels or a sea of sometimes working and sometimes not wind mills. Clothes and drugs and so much else we take for granted will disappear without fossil fuels. Epstein says we need to take all this into consideration before moving off these fuels. To ignore them in our rush to something entirely different is immoral. Who else has made this case?

THE best book I read this year. I wasn't sure what to expect, given the title - "The Moral Case..." but I hoped for something more than the usual "my facts are more factual than your facts". I WASN'T disappointed! He delivered on presenting a principled, fully and rationally thought out and presented case based on facts that are not opposed by the climate change disaster folks. This makes for a book that needs to be read by everyone. It is literally a game changer. If you are rational and want to understand the actual issues, read this book.

Makes a very good case against the doomsday prophets. This is also the first book I have read that starts with the nineteen seventies book (the limits to growth), where a bunch of scientists "proved" that the earth's population would starve by the year 2000! As this was based on some computer model, we are still living, in 2015. I used to start my tirades always with that book. Glad I bought it.

This book leaves no stone unturned in the debate. It is an exposition of clarity in thought and writing about how to judge any issue through the example of fossil fuels. The writing is accessible to anyone, and yet reaches far beyond what one would expect of any well known journalist or newspaper column writer. It is fair and balanced because it addresses the very best arguments out there and covers every essential issue.

Although one can become very emotional reading this book, as I had, this book is driven by nothing but a passion for the truth and an extreme respect for each individual's ability to reason and weigh the issues at hand. This book speaks not to the person looking to be told what to think and how to act, but to the person who seeks to be empowered by knowledge and wants to do the right thing because it is moral.

Thank you Alex Epstein for your commitment to excellence.

Mr. Epstein presents a well researched and very sound argument for humanity's continued use of fossil fuels. We currently have the best standard of living the world has ever seen, think about the big picture, think about the why.

Epstein cuts to the chase; the real issue regarding the use of fossil fuels lies in our belief of either, A. the natural world (sans humanity) has precedence (mankind is a cancer), or B. humanity is not only part of the natural world but has a right to prudently seek to live long and healthy lives. For those whose moral framework prefers option A then the ends justify the means. Therefore the misuse and abuse of science is justified. This book avoids the technical arguments and focuses on the moral positions.

Outstanding book. The Author puts Climate Change in perspective. When discussing environmental issues only one side is ever given, the negative side. When we discuss these issues we need to consider the benefits as well as the costs. This book does that. A must read!!
