Product Description

From the Back Cover

Here is a unique collection of mystery stories featuring women detectives, all written by women. For the first time the top women mystery writers are presented together in one volume.

"Ms. Murder" includes some of the best fiction by such writers, including Amanda Cross, Ruth Rendell, Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie and Antonia Fraser. The book traces the evolution of the female sleuth from F. Tennyson Jesse's Solange Fontaine (in a newly discovered story making its first appearance here in any book) to Sarah Paretsky's tough Chicago investigator V. I. Warshawski, who lives life entirely on her own terms.

The detectives in these stories are shrewd, sophisticated, even hard-boiled. Amateur or professional, they unravel mysteries that involve the reader right from the start. From Edwardian London to sleek modern Chicago, from discerning academics to gun-toting P.I.'s, "Ms. Murder" presents the best by the best. It is destined to become a collectable classic.

About the Author

Ruth Rendell (1930 2015) won three Edgar Awards, the highest accolade from Mystery Writers of America, as well as four Gold Daggers and a Diamond Dagger for outstanding contribution to the genre from England s prestigious Crime Writers Association. Her remarkable career spanned a half century, with more than sixty books published. A member of the House of Lords, she was one of the great literary figures of our time.

Sara Paretsky is the author of twenty books, including the renowned V. I. Warshawski novels. Named 2011 Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America, and a recipient of the Cartier Diamond Dagger award given by the British Crime Writers Association, she is president of the Mystery Writers of America. She lives in Chicago.

Amanda Cross is the pseudonymous author of the bestselling Kate Fansler mysteries, of which Honest Doubt is the thirteenth. As Carolyn G. Heilbrun, she is the Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities Emerita at Columbia University. She has served as president of the Modern Language Association as well as vice president of the Authors Guild. Dr. Heilbrun is also the author of Writing a Woman's Life, Hamlet's Mother and Other Women, The Education of a Woman: The Life of Gloria Steinem, and most recently, the New York Times Notable Book: The Last Gift of Time: Life Beyond Sixty.

"From the Hardcover edition."

The acclaimed English biographer Lady Antonia Fraser is also a talented mystery writer whose Quiet As a Nun was filmed for the Mystery! series on PBS.

Agatha Christie is the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare. Her books have sold more than a billion copies in English and another billion in a hundred foreign languages. She died in 1976.
