Product Description

Hannah Kline is a successful Los Angeles obstetrician and the recently widowed mother of a young daughter. She is barely managing to hold it all together, when her life is shattered once again by the brutal murder of her beautiful, bright, zany and recently divorced sister-in-law Beth. Detective Daniel Ross of the LAPD thinks the killer had a very personal motive. Hannah is determined to do whatever she can to assist the police in finding the murderer. She finds herself obsessed with the details of Beth's life, and as she encounters her sister-in-law's eclectic collection of friends and former lovers, she discovers that all was not as it seemed. Not only was Beth a woman with a secret life, but her secrets may have led her inexorably to a rendezvous with her killer.

About the Author

Paula Bernstein is an author who likes to think of herself as a multifaceted renaissance woman. She began her professional career as an academic chemist with a doctorate from Caltech. After realizing that she liked people better than laboratory equipment, she went to Medical School and spent the next thirty years as a successful practicing obstetrician-gynecologist. Between deliveries, she has always indulged her creative side by taking courses in writing, interior design, graphic arts and astronomy. Over the years she has also published non-fiction, patient oriented medical books, professional papers, and written fiction for pleasure. Now that she is semi-retired, she is busy editing and publishing her short stories and novels. Not surprisingly, her heroines are witty women in interesting professions from medicine, to physics, to interior design. She is the author of Potpourri, an eclectic collection of short stories spanning several genres, and of Lethal Injection, Private School and Murder in the Family, the first three books in the Hannah Kline Mystery Series.

I found this book interesting but not a page turner. From reading the other reviews I expected Hannah to be more dynamic. I did enjoy the daughter as I found her emotions added much need depth to this book. This book did not contain overly detailed violent or sexual situations which I found refreshing. What really deterred from my enjoyment of this book was the murderer was obvious from the moment you met the person. Even the motive was no surprise and this was very disappointing for me.

Excellent story that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery. I am loving Hannah Kline and will without a doubt be reading more of this series. No cursing, no sex, just a clean well written book that keeps you wanting to read more and more. The ending ties up things neatly and all questions answered without knowing the "who, what and why" any earlier than the end.

This had the typical basics for a cozy, but is not a typical cozy. Yes, the heroine meets hunky, single cop during a murder investigation. Yes, she helps him solve the murder. The murderer and the intimate details put this into a category all its own. A definite page turner, as I had to know who had committed the crime. Sweet relationship between mother and daughter. Interesting details about Jewish practices. I look forward to reading more from this author.

HASH(0xa644c720) out of 5 stars More Romance than Who-Done-It --- IMO Feb. 16 2015
By UBizz - Published on Amazon.com

I got this book for free after seeing it on one of my free book lists. I did not know the author or the series but thought it might interest me. The book was heavier on romance than mystery, and for that reason it was "just okay" for me. Hannah Kline lives in CA and is an OB/GYN raising her daughter alone due to the loss of her husband. She has the support and friendship of her sister in law (Beth Kline) until she loses her via a brutal and senseless murder. Detective Daniel Ross is assigned to the murder case and takes a liking to Hannah. As the clues to the murder start to pile up so does Daniel's interest in Hannah.

HASH(0xa644c6e4) out of 5 stars then it looks like it will be the one person you did really ... Jan. 26 2016

I found it difficult to get through this book and I think it's because of the CSI syndrome. The one in which evidence points to multiple people, then it looks like it will be the one person you did really think did it. Then there is a speedy trial in which the suspect admits to the crime and the case is wrapped up in a tight little bow. I know some people will enjoy this book because of this formula. I'm a bit burned out on it. I do think it was pretty well written for a first-person POV.

This author was new to me but I am so glad I read this book. It was different in lots of ways. The story was very good and moved along quickly so interest was not lost. I could not put it down. Enjoy.

HASH(0xa644ca38) out of 5 stars It looks like I found another author to add to my collection Nov. 25 2014

his is my first book I've read by Paula Bernstein and overall I found the story itself a very fast read. I actually became deeply involved not only in the story but the lives of the characters as well. The length of the book was a little shorter than I am used to in a mystery but overall I am looking forward to finding the first two books in the series. It looks like I found another author to add to my collection! I want to thank the author and goodreads for the opportunity to find another good author.
