I am a music teacher and a parent of two young children, so I have particular interest in this recording. First, I would like to strongly support the well written liner notes which explain the strong effect that Mozart's music has on the young mind. It has been proven in numerous studies that music, particular that of Mozart, stimulates brain activity in unique ways.
As for the recordings on this CD, I too was taken aback at first by the arrangements and instrumentation of this CD. After a while though, I found myself almost compelled to listen to the music. The melody is clearly separated from the harmony by the strange instrumentation, and I found my own brain activated by listening to this music. Far from Mozart 'Lite,' I believe this CD surpasses authentic recordings in its ability to stimulate the mind. Most importantly, my children love this CD and listen to it over and over.
There are many fine recordings to choose from for an adult who wishes to enjoy the music of Mozart. When it comes to thought provoking, stimulating music for children and adults-"The Mozart Effect" delivers as promised.

This collection is such a good idea (assuming, of course, that the research is right and classical music does enhance learning) that I couldn't wait to listen to it. Unfortunately, the arrangements and performers leave a lot to be desired. Many of the tracks feature the sound of a high pitched flute or whistle, making this sound like Mozart "lite". Personally, I think this produces a watered down effect that can turn the listener off to classical music for good. Also, I think the claims on the labels that listening to these CDs "increases verbal, emotional, and spatial intelligence; improves concentration and memory; inspires right-brain, creative thinking/processes; improves body movement and co-ordination" etc. are exaggerated and probably unsupported. It's a shame because people who are not classical music fans will pick up these CDs for their children, but it's not likely either they or their children will be drawn further into the wonderful world of classical music by listening to The Mozart Effect.

While the high pitched flute may not be for everyone, theconcept is outstanding, and the children's minds are responding.Claims of superior spatial reasoning, brain development, coordination, and musical ability have not only been proven, but are widely and absolutely accepted and practiced among concerned, educated society. For further information, look up music education, early child development--music, or Montessori teaching techniques. While these selections may not be the most asthetically pleasing to some, others consider their children's future more important than their own music preference. For years, I have used Classical Music in my middle school science classroom as background. If the music is not playing, my students ask if they may start it again! They ask for the Motzart Effect more than any other of the classical selections I play. Especially at times of testing and written evaluation, they most often request "Relax, Daydream, and Draw". I do think it is important that we listen to the voice and choice of our young people when evaluating musical presentation created especially for their age groups! Now I am purchasing this set for my 2 month old grand-daughter so that she, too, may enjoy it.

Having read all of the attached information prior to purchasing, and, previously, other articles on classical music and brain stimulation, I bought the Mozart "newborn" as more of an experiment than anything else. As the adult, too, was not really excited about the performance styles. BUT, when my granddaughter's mother told me how much she (1 month-4 month baby) actually responded to hearing the CD being played, I'd say the style of performance is not meant to be enjoyed by classically trained adults, but rather the age group for whom it's intended! We highly recommend this series!

I had my doubts--how much could a classical piece of music relax or "inspire" a restless, ruthless 2 year old? I casually put in the first of the boxed series titled, "Relax, Create and Draw" (or close to that) and within 20 minutes my 4 year son and 2 year old tantrum throwing daughter were at the table drawing--no kidding--with no coaxing on my part. It brightens our mood and is a lot better than the Rugrats!!!
