WOW WOW WOW - Katie Ashley has done it again! Music of the Soul brings us back to the beautiful love story of Abby Renard and Jake Slater, which began in Music of the Heart! What I love about Katie's books is she not only tells a beautiful love story, but she delves into the emotions of her characters. In the beginning of the book right before Abby and Jake are married, Jake visits his mother's grave. This is such an emotional scene which you know Katie wrote from her heart and from personal experience. No one could write so emotionally without personal experience. You will find yourself crying, laughing, frustrated and so extremely happy to see this love story end so beautiful! I have read all of Katie Ashley's books and have NEVER been disappointed. If you are reading reviews and are trying to decide if this is a book for you, let me assure you it is! This series has been one of the best I have ever read. Although all books are linked together, you can, if you choose, read this book as a standalone, but you will be missing a wonderful series that links each main couple in each book together as a close knit family. The reading order for this series is 1) Music of the Heart; 2) Beat of the Heart; and 3) Music of the Soul.

HASH(0xa4ea103c) out of 5 stars 2 Hearts, 1 Soul & its Music Dec 29 2013

Wonderful novella about Jake and Abby we first met in Music of the Heart.

We all kinda knew that this was going to be the story of their wedding, but I never could have expected what else this couple would have to go through.

The author does a great job with pulling out so many emotions. Already from the first chapter, I was a blubbering mess.... poor Jake...

I laughed, I cried, I felt angry, I felt happy, I felt empty and I cried some more...

Along with many surprises, we get a wonderful, but somehow painful story about two hearts that become one soul.

Do not hesitate, 1-click this!

HASH(0xa4ea1288) out of 5 stars Quick, update read Jan. 11 2014

So .... Jake is a pansy, Abby is perfect, AJ gets a little 'South of the Border' on us, Mia is much tamer than before, Brayden and Lily are still doing the married with kids thing and Rhys is in the background single and adjusting to it all. In other words, it's your typical 'Runaway Train' novel.

Music of the soul, acts as a, what happens next and what is about to happen, novella. It does however, remains true to all the characters, especially Abby and Jake. Married or not, neither one has changed much from the people we initially fell in love with.

While a serious struggle, I am glad for the change or reversal of roles. Usually, this situation dominates rock and roll novels. This one took a different view, while it touched on some rather sensitive topics. There was drama galore, and I feel as if they weren't amended in the correct time period.

It had an air of hurry, without being a race to the finish kind of story. I would have loved to dwell on some issues that were given a couple hours at most, before it was all sorted.

To get both Abby and Jake's POV helped, because it added layers to the story. It at times felt like you were reading two different stories, due to the almost seamless transitions. It gave us both of their views on everything, and as such, we didn't miss a beat or finish this book wondering what now where they are concerned.

I could see them making cameo appearances in future novels, but their story is basically complete. It's just for Jake to not be a douche and Abby to continue be her all forgiving angelic self. She was put through quite the ringer in this installment and even though some of the outcomes were extremely predictable, to be on that journey with her was fabulous!

I would have just liked to have gotten some more out of those final scenes. We struggled with her through her issues, it would be nice to have been a complete presence throughout the final process. As I said before, certain areas seemed pressed for time.

This is a quick, easy read, for you to get an update on what happened next with all the main characters, and what is coming up. There is drama, fights, some average sex scenes and a whole lot of cute babies. :)

It's your typical novella with a few twists. It will keep you interested enough to finish, just don't expect the same amount of density as a full novel. I continue to adore the characters and this series. To watch Jake and Abby figure it out, is like a deleted bonus scene all wrapped in one for me. While there are many discrepancies and issues that I would have loved to explore in full, I still think it's a nice, quick, update read.

HASH(0xa4ea14c8) out of 5 stars Beautiful story Dec 30 2013

I absolutely loved this book! It was beautifully written and I adore Katie Ashley.
I love Jake and have from th beginning but at times in this book I wanted to smack him because of the way he was acting. Abby I such beautiful character that you can't help but love her. She was so strong going through what she went through and to struggle with something that lots of women unfortunately have to struggle with.

review “…You’re the light that fills my soul in the darkest, bleakest night. You’re the balm that cures the wound; the lifeline in the storm. You are the song of my heart, the music of my soul.”

In this book, Abby and Ryan finally tie the knot. I do have to say that Ryan sure did go the extra mile and gave his Angel the wedding celebration that every woman deserves. From the reception to the ceremony itself and another reception he went above and beyond expectations. Their honeymoon was just as perfect except for this one intense argument that eventually leads up to one fantastic make-up.

A year passes by and our couple remain very much in love. They have this ideal relationship that anyone would envy up until Abby lands in the hospital. Again, that same argument they had during their honeymoon comes up. Back then it was an intense discussion but now it becomes even more painful and heartbreaking.

What makes it even worst is that because of all his anger, Ryan takes some of his frustrations out on his band mates and their significant others . What is remarkable though is that his band is possibly closer than family and no matter what was said and done, they forgive and forget and continue to offer comfort and support through that difficult times.

Every single one of the guys were always at their side but it was AJ and Mia that seemed to rise above the rest. AJ! Good grief, I love that man. He was the perfect bestie in every way. He always managed to put things in a better perspective for Ryan. Mia too was teriffic. She was always comforting and understanding with all that Ryan was going through. If I haven’t said this yet… I need to say that Mia and AJ make such an amazing pair.

After Ryan finally manned the f’ up, made that much needed call and got over his self doubt he ends up doing the sweetest thing. He gives his wife one heartfelt apology and they finally come to an agreement. Ryan struggled with this decision for years but when they get to that point his anxiety and insecurities immediately disappear and he takes on his new role flawlessly.

I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed Music Of The Soul. I appreciated the fact that it approached these life changing decisions with so much realism and brought up issues and difficulties that any newlywed could possibly go through. It certainly was a great representation of forgiveness, acceptance and love not only between Ryan and Abby but also among family and closes of friends.

I thought Music Of The Soul was a fantastic ending to Abby and Ryan’s love story. Their relationship did have rough moments but because of their endless love they were able to overcome all the obstacles to get to that very much needed happily ever after.

Oh Katie, you've done it again. You've really, really done it again.

I absolutely freaking LOVE this series. L-O-V-E. This installment was novella length so we didn't get as much steamy goodness as the other two books, but that doesn't make this read any less amazeballs...

Music Of the Soul is all about Abby & Jake's wedding and the joy and heartbreak of the band mates having kids. (Except for poor Rhys, although there was some MAJOR foreshadowing in this book, count `em up Rhys, I'm pretty sure your bachelorhood days are numbered!).

I don't think Jake & Abby's wedding could have been any more perfect if they had tried. I mean, who doesn't want their very own private island off the course of Mexico? Surrounded only by those closest to you? Seriously, they knew how to put on one helluva shindig! And of course there are newlyweds involved, so not only is this series steamy enough to begin with, well of course it is going to get even steamier!

But after the wedding, Jake & Abby really start to talk about what is next in their relationship. In the first two books we learn about Jake's relationship with his father and how it might possibly affect his desire to have kids in the future. All of his self-doubt finally comes to a head in this book and Jake comes close to possibly losing Abby, as he is just not ready to become a father. Poor Abby sees her friends Mia & Lily (AJ & Brayden's wives) having babies and that is all she has ever wanted. Abby & Jake's relationship is really put to the test when a major tragedy strikes them and they find that they may never be able to have their own children. The emotion in which these scenes played out was absolutely gut wrenching.

One of the Katie Ashley's biggest strengths in her writing are the relationships that she has between her characters. They run deep, and it shows. You really get a sense of the brotherly love between Jake & AJ, the romantic love between Jake & Abby, the parental love between Brayden and his kids...there are so many different types of relationships in her books and they are all artfully written. The characters are just that real. There are a lot of series out there starring rock bands, but I think this is definitely my favorite, as the guys of Runaway Train just seem so genuine.

Music Of the Soul is a five star read. I picked it up and didn't bother to put it down until I was done, it was that good. Katie Ashley had already created these characters that I knew and loved, this book just took them that much further. I cannot wait until the next chapter in the series, Strings Of the Heart, comes out in April of this year. Like I said Rhys, she's coming for you!
