About the Author
SARAH BRITTON is the acclaimed holistic nutritionist, writer, and photographer behind the popular healthy foods blog My New Roots. She grew up in Toronto and graduated as a certified nutritional practitioner from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in 2007. After moving to Denmark 18 months later, she apprenticed at a cafe called Gronsagen (The Vegetable) where she learned how to cook professionally. She has been invited to collaborate with Michelin-starred chefs throughout Europe and was asked to help design a special menu for Noma's Nordic Food Lab. She is a personal friend of Heather Reisman's and frequently returns to Toronto to visit friends and family. She lives in Copenhagen with her husband and their newborn child.

Recipes I've tried:
- Carrot rhubarb muffins - I've made these twice now and both times they've disappeared within two days (there are two of us). I did find them a bit sweet as written since they use both coconut sugar and maple syrup. I substituted cane sugar for the coconut sugar and ended up halving it the second time - I might even reduce it a bit more next time, but I like my baked goods not very sweet at all. I loved this recipe though, and the density of the muffins due to using oat flour.
- Dark Chocolate Cherry Oats - I didn't actually follow this recipe as written and just mixed the maple syrup, cacao and cacao nibs into my cooked steel cut oats with some raspberries, but what I ended up with tasted like a healthy dessert for breakfast.
- Moon macaroons - Loved these! I ended up substituting almond butter for the coconut butter since I had it on hand and my blender was broken so I couldn't make coconut butter by hand. I used cashew pulp for the nut pulp.Read more ›
Sarah Britton is actually dubbed as the "Queen bee of the health blogs" and this book was inspired by her very popular blog. This book contains 100 plant based recipes and I can vouch that even though her ingredients are used by us everyday, her recipes turn them into something more delicious and unique. The book is divided into seasons, with summer split into early and late summer. I love how cook books are dividing their books in this way. Only one recipe was tried from this book but like I said, it was delicious
The final product looked identical to the one in the photo and it was easy to replicate. it is mostly made from lentils and itself on its own is so fulfilling even though it is technically just lentil soup. We just added a bit of friend onion garnish on top, but that was optional.
I love the rustic feel of this recipe and I will definitely be doing this recipe again in the future. All the recipes are very healthy and there are many options such as vegetarian, vegan, and even gluten free options. I really want to try out the dessert section because there are some mouth watering ones I've tabbed for later. Also, my whole family loved this dish.
