Product Description

Remember When The Whole World Looked UpIn The Shadow Of The Moon is an intimate epic which vividly communicates the daring and the danger the pride and the passion of this extraordinary era in American history. Between 1968 and 1972 the world watched in awe each time an American spacecraft voyaged to the Moon. Only 12 American men walked upon its surface and they remain the only human beings to have stood on another world. Now for the first time and very possibly the last In The Shadow Of The Moon combines archival material from the original NASA film footage much of it never before seen with interviews with the surviving astronauts who emerge as eloquent witty emotional and very human.System Requirements:Running Time: 100 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DOCUMENTARIES/HISTORY Rating: PG UPC: 821575555951 Manufacturer No: TF-55595

I just love space exploration, and this documentary proposes a tight but very thorough load of information for anyone who knows next to nothing on the subject.

It covers the entire process of going to the moon, from the first tries to the last man on the moon, which was waaay back in 1972. There are wonderful interviews of the men who went and they sometimes share the tragedies of those who accidentally couldn't make it for fatal reasons (yes, there were casualties in the process)

If you wish to only watch one documentary to cover the basics, then, my friend, look no further as this is very concise, fun, informative and never boring piece of documentation.

I thought that this documentary was a truly wonderful introduction to the Apollo moon landings, showing the human side of the experience and providing a great general overview of the achievements. I saw it on the movie screen, and I highly recommend it.

I also really liked the impressive book of the same title, by C. Burgess and F. French, that not only covers the early Apollo flights, but also delves into the preceding flights, and what the Russian rivals were up to at that time. In the book, I learned about the early lives and early flights of these astronauts, and what it was like to be in the moment of flying the missions. In the movie, I learned what these guys look like today, and how they feel reflecting back on their experiences. Both film and book were perfect for their medium, and great accompaniments to each other.

I highly recommend both book and movie, and suggest experiencing both!

Chronicles the Apollo flights as JFK put it out there that man should get to the Moon by 1969. With what appeared to be advances by Russia, NASA made every possible effort to get there first. Insightful interviews and actual footage of the missions. Insightful.

As an "Apollo Kid" I was glued to the grainy TV images of the moon landing and all of the Apollo missions before and after. Forty years later, watching "In the Shadow of the Moon", the wonderment of it all is recalled, and it is just as good today as it was back then. The Apollo astronauts recount their stories and reflect on the program, now, in a very personal way. This is not really about the moon landings, but about the hearts and souls of the brave men who flew these missions. Their personal stories mixed with much reflective humor makes for the most amazing story that you can't tear yourself away from. It is a bit unfortunate that Neil Armstrong didn't participate in this landmark film, but all of the other guys make up for it. This was, and remains, an amazing adventure.

I really enjoyed this 100 minute documentary. Informative and interesting, with the occasional tidbit that will make you appreciate those guys with the right stuff even more (for instance, did you know that Buzz Aldrin used to figure out complex ballistic trajectories as a hobby? For fun!). At the current price, I think it's very worthwhile.
