This little guy is amazing. I live in an 100 year old house so all of the rooms are different levels and each has a small step up or down. Since the tires on it are huge, it can climb up the 2 inch risers. It has a hard time sometimes, but he is a determined little guy and he just keeps trying until he makes it up. This is the reason I chose Neato over iRobot. It never gets stuck on the fringe rugs either.

I was a little worried the first time we ran it, because we charged it for 12 hours as suggested, and it only ran for maybe 10 minutes before dying without even attempting to return to the charging station. It charged quickly, and then ran for another 10 minutes and died again, and we had to pick it up and bring it to the charger (which it seems to hate). Both of these times we had to start the "clean house" action again. After this, it would run for maybe 45 minutes, return to the charging station on its own, and then pick up where it left off. It did not miss a single room, and our home does not have an open layout, so that was a big task in itself. The dust bin is surprisingly large.

I'll update this review with more feedback if anything changes, but for now, I am very very happy with this purchase.

The good

It very rarely gets lost. The first floor of my house has 5 rooms and it navigates in them and returns to its base almost every time.
It picks up A LOT more than you would do with a broom or a regular vacuum cleaner.
It is very extremely good at doing all the side and corner as close as possible.
The sound level is reasonable when using the pet and allergy brush, which is the one I refer to when saying it picks up A LOT.
He is impressive (and surprisingly aggressive) at freeing himself when he's stuck and cleaning through a mess of cables.
A table with 4 chairs (we talking 20 legs to navigate around) is absolutely no match for his navigation, he gets every little corner cleaned, work around every single legs tightly and gets out no problem.
It detects "floor drops" very well. Dont be scared, he won't fell down the stairs.
Solid construction, he can take a some accidents.
Cleaning him is very fast. It's pretty much like removing the dust of a dryer. Other than that, you will want to clean his brush every like 20-30 use, which should take about 10 min.
Recharge is quick

The semi-bad

The manual says it needs to have 1 meter (3.33 feet) free in a 180 degree angle around its base. For most houses, the only places with that much free space is walking space ... so finding him a spot is really not convenient if you follow the manual. I did that at 1st, but eventually moved it to a much tighter space. He does work, still always cleans everywhere, but about 1 time out of 10, he fails at returning to its base (usually real close though).

The bad

The 1 thing Neato can't get un-stuck is it's brush.

I truly believe that Neato nailed quite a few flaws of the original Roomba design and addressed them, but the missing sidebrush will only be present in their next generation.

(compared with Roomba 560)
Pros:
- Fast and reliable operation (finishes in half the time )
- Navigation algorithms are fare more advanced (they actually exist)
- Vacuum much stronger than any competitor (really :))
- Carpet handling far better (takes out at least twice as much cat hair as competitor)
Cons:
- No sidebrush: leaves 1-1/2" of dust along edges (this was the reason for my return)
- The blade brush is unusably loud (for the sake of my neighbors below I never used it after testing)
- Sometimes misses parts of the appartment completely (several tight walkways, but about 30% of the time it does not clean the Kitchen. I assume I should have placed the dock closer, but had no good place for it).

We bought two. R2 lives upstairs and D2 live downstairs. Every second day they rumble around sweeping/vacuuming for the morning. It takes 2 charges each. They are noisier than the Roomba they replaced. But they are more systematic in cleaning. The bin fills quickly with cat and dog hair. Make sure o clean them after every use. I use a vacuum cleaner to clean the paper element filter a couple times a week. No buyer remorse on these. Getting the paper element filters maybe a challenge and pricy. Don't wash the filter in water. A vacuum works well.

Purchased End of December, took it out of the box and had it going within 15-minutes, a little skeptical at first but it does everything it says it will do, I love this machine I have it programmed to Run Monday, Wednesday and Friday and am Fascinated everytime I empty the Bin at how much Cat hair it gets......My wife first thought it was nonsense but now she is considering getting another for our upstairs..........For the price and everything I read before hand I am very pleased with this purchase and as always Amazon came through with the delivery earlier than anticipated...Definitely a 10 out of 10
