Colour temperature: These have two sets of LEDs, one set is balanced for 5600k (daylight) and the other set is balanced for 3200k (tungsten). Each set has a separate dimmer to adjust brightness. There is no readout of actual kelvin when mixing the two, so the only accurate way to know the actual colour temperature is to use only one set.
On/Off switch: The on/off switch has a single "off" setting, on a separate "on" setting for either battery power or the external power adapter.
Manual: The manual is really basic, and doesn't describe the above at all. While it isn't hard to figure out, it would have been good for the manual to include instructions for those. The manual also doesn't provide any information about what batteries are to be used with this. Battery information is completely absent from the manual and the light itself.
Build quality: Build quality seems to be fairly good. the body, U-bracket, and stand receptacle are aluminum but the rear control panel containing the battery holders, brightness knobs, and on/off switch is plastic. Since the rear control panel protrudes from the body there is a likelihood it would receive a blow and suffer damage if it fell on its back or was impacted from the rear. Even though the case is padded, caution would be in order if you planned to transport these regularly.
Light stands: The included light stands are not professional quality, having all plastic fittings. They are lightweight and inexpensive, and are adequate to support these small light panels. Again, they'll be fine for occasional use or in a home studio but don't count on them to last if regularly used on location.

I'm taking a star off because when I received the lights, two out of the 480 LED's wouldn't light up. The seller offered to ship a replacement, but requested that I first ship the defective unit all the way to the US and the seller would only cover part of the shipping cost. I don't think the customer should pay to send back a defective unit, not to mention wait for a replacement from the states. Amazon customer service however was amazing and offered the options of returning the whole kit for a full refund or reimbursing me 20% of the cost of the kit to keep the defective unit. I decided to get a local electronics shop replace the two LEDs.

Color temps: (This is an average of three readings)
- full warm=3220k +7 green
- full white= 5220k +8 green
So close but not to advertised spec. But close enough for 90* of the work you will do and very good for YouTube work. The '+green' is important. Most cheap-o led lights have lots of green. This is such a minor amount and there isn't a magenta filters that low in density to correct the + green.
- Both at 100% = 4160k*
Now for the light output. This is in Foot candles which is industry standard. I did 3 tests. One center of light beam at 3' and 6'. One off angle 45*.
Center of beam- 3'
- white = 320fc
- warm= 300fc
- both 100%= 480fc
Center of beam - 6'
- white= 75fc
- warm= 80fc
- Both 100% = 158fc
Off axis at 3'-
- warm = 40fc
- white = 54fc
- both = 83fc
Add included diffusion filter: (Note: doing a A-B test with industry standard 216 diffusion proved that the included diffusor is identical, which is great)
- both 3' @100% = 158fc
- both 6' @100% = 80fc
So what does all this mean?
- The lights are 'beamy' without the diffusion. If you shine them on a wall across the room, you will notice that the center of the light beam will be brighter, and it is consistently bright across the beam, which is good. Then there is a fairly hard falloff as you measure further from the center of the beam. This is consistent with this type of 'multi-bulb' LED fixture when priced below $500 each. This 'beamy' light tells me that the LEDs are accurately placed on the circuit board, all aiming the same direction.
- The provided sheet of diffusion does not color the light and softens the light considerably. It's nice and even light.
- The fc falloff as you move away from the light is very typical for LED and florescent light fixtures.
- The ability to hit the targeted/advertised 3400k (tungsten match) light color can only be done with by mixing the light colors. This of course, gives you a bit more light output than just the warm bulbs alone. I like the findings that the warm-only is slightly warmer than typical tungsten lights, which gives me the ability to go 'warmer' if the shot needs it.
- The ability to hit the advertised 5600k is disappointing. The unit mustered 5220k which is a tolerable 200k lower/warmer than typical daylight fixtures and substantially lower/warmer than most cinema lights which produce 6500k. To match a better daylight light fixture you will need to add a 1/8th Color Temp Blue (CTB) filter to this light...and lose some output light power.
Construction and features-
These lights are well built. Solid. The filter slot is open on both ends so it makes it easy to put in the filter. That being said, it can slide out just as easy. Make sure you have one of the tilt knobs set to block the filter from coming out. The fixture itself has an extra set of threaded holes on the side so if one strips out (not likely unless you wrench-hand the tilt lock), you can move the the bracket to the second set. There's also 4 threaded holes on the face of the fixture which will be convenient for mounting some standoffs if you want to move the filter further from the fixture. This same fixture is offered by several manufacture names and one has the standoffs included.
The knobs are metal as is the bracket and stand mount. The stand mount is industry standard 1/2" (baby pin) size.
The unit will run on one battery. It does reduce the light output by a 'titch' so no real issue. With both battery slots filled with the larger 970 batteries I ran the unit at full power for 90 min. The smart charger indicated that they still had 50% left. This is really good battery life for one of these fixtures. The dimmer electronics was flicker free (from the camera perspective) throughout their entire range.
The bags the lights came in are no great shakes but more than good enough to transport these lights safely. There's 4 wide, elastic straps inside which will hold the wall power unit and it's power cord, and 2 of the larger 970 batteries. The lights came with a white, dense foam protection for shipping, inside these bags. If you cut a bit off, radius'ing the corners, it will fit nicely back in the bag for daily transport protection.
Like others have said, the design flaw in the power supply is the cord from the transformer to the lamp head. It's to short to allow for the weight of this to be supported on the floor. I purchased some hook-n-loop cable ties and affixed it to the power cord side of the power supply so it can be hung on the stand.
The light stands-
These are they typical Chinese folding stands. Not good enough for commercial work, but more than adequate for you home studio or limited field work. I will be purchasing a bag for these that will hold the two 15' extension cords I purchased. The stands do have a spring in the bottom of each of the extensions which will cushion the stand coming down if you have a heavier lamp on top. It won't just hit bottom which typically blows tungsten bulbs.
Conclusion-
Outstanding value for the price. If you want more light output, then buy a fixture that has all one color temp. bulbs, and use gells to correct to another color temp. Getting the all daylight units puts out the most fc by the way.
These are great for lighting in limited spaces and two or more could be rigged side-by-side for a nice wall-of-light on your subject. It would be a no brainer to build a bracket holding 2 or 4 of these supported between the two light stands.
The biggest down side is the daylight color temp not quite getting up to industry daylight readings. And some DIY barn-doors would help control the light spill. Barn-doors typically don't do much for these fixtures, but they do help if they are 6-8" long. You could make something like a monitor hood and velcro it to the light. On set, we call these 'snoots'.
To get the best color rendition with your camera, make sure you do a white balance on a piece of white paper or gray card. Your camera will then reduce the very slight green these lights put out.
The lights come packaged in a very nice zippper case with straps to hold the AC adapter. This is fine if you're storing things in the closet, but the lights also have the option to be battery-powered and there's really no place to safely put a battery in with the light. You can squeeze one in but they will flop around and not be secure. Again probably just fine for home use but a bit of a disappointment for anything more.
The yoke holding the light is a big disappointment. Looks pretty with the anodized metal knobs but this doesn't indicate quality. Mine arrived with both screws completely loose and rattling around the package. You definitely want to check them and put some locktite on them to avoid future trouble. The balance of the mount is incredibly frustration - particularly if you have a battery mounted on the back. Because the mount holes are high on the light body the knobs basically self-tighten to the point where they are difficult to loosen. There also is zero range of adjustment on the tension - they are either locked in or completely loose and not much range in between. When you loosen them because the light is bottom heavy the entire light flops down abruptly. This gives you zero chance of being able to position the angle accurately.
On a positive note the yoke has one pro feature that is nice - the ability to mount the light horizontally (see photo). Most people probably don't realize the hole in the base of the yoke is so you can mount them facing down. This is very useful if you're doing product photography where you're generally working on a tabletop. By mounting the lights in this configuration you can position a light on either side of your table pointed down and you have a really nice, shadowless product photography setup. But BE CAREFUL. Mounting the light in this configuration makes it tippy, so make sure you align the light to one of the legs so it doesn't fall over, and only extend the stand tall enough to work with your table.
Let's talk about the stands. They're awful, no two ways around it. They don't operate smoothly at all. Both of mine are just difficult to adjust up and down even though they supposedly have a semi-professional spring-loaded feature, and no amount of fiddling with the lock tensioning screws will fix it. The chrome on the mounting peg will start to flake after your first use, and the tips of the legs will scratch wood floors. If you plan on using these lights for ANYTHING other than light-duty, in-home use you should throw these stands away. If you decide to keep them you should tape the tips so they don't scratch your floor.
Now to the lights. The lights themselves are two interlaced arrays of cool (5600k) and warm (3200k) LEDs. There are two independent dimmer knobs on the rear...one adjust the cool array, one the warm. There is no color temperature indicator so you pretty much just eyeball it when you're trying to balance these lights with available light. Since you have two lights it makes it difficult to get them to match unless you're using full-on-warm or full-on-cool. "Close" is absolutely fine in most home situations and not really a limitation, but a deal breaker if you're trying to use these professionally.
I was disappointed in the brightness of these lights. When you're trying to take photos or videos with light fixtures like these you have two choices: Turn off any other lights in the space and just use these lights, or use these lights to enhance what is already there. So for instance if you're in a kitchen which already has warm color temperature track lighting you can either turn that off and try to light the space with these lights, or you can use the track lights and also use these lights to fill. These lights don't work in either capacity very well. They're definitely not bright enough to use as a primary light source for anything larger than a head shot, and if you're using anything other than both knobs nearly full-on you have to be right on top of the subject to get any meaningful fill. They're also not bright enough to kick into the ceiling to provide a nice wash over the area. Combined with the lack of decent adjustment of color temperature and it makes them a bit frustrating to use for anything other than tabletop photography.
Given all of what I just said, I still think these lights are a fair deal for what you pay. I got mine on sale for just over $100. I added the battery kit for another $50. So for $150 you get a mediocre two-light kit that's pretty much best suited for home product photography or maybe some light headshot work. If you use them more than once a week they will probably break and die within a year. But it's $150. A professional equivalent which fixes all of the shortcomings mentioned above (along with having a meaningful 5-year warranty) will cost five times as much. These will be fine as long as you're in a home situation where you're not going to lose money if you unbox these one day and the stand cracks, or the knob breaks, or the power brick dies, or it slips after you've set it up and it screws up your shot. But if you had any thought about using these in a business situation where they need to work you should try another option.
