Not everyone can be successful in negotiation, but this book will help you to gain the skills necessary to become a great negotiator. I would highly recommend this book to everyone as we are all faced with times when negotiation is important.

It's a bunch of techniques to use empathy and a few psychological tricks to understand what the other person in any conflict actually wants, and to steer the negotiation to where you want it to go. I wanted to read this book because the union to which I belong is currently trying to hammer out a contract with little success and much sacrifice by the employees. As an avoider of conflict, even I see ways this method will work for me. Reading this book will benefit the daily interactions of people in most walks of life, so if you're curious, pick it up.

This s a great book on negotiation, and it really changed my thinking about the topic. As someone that the author would describe as overly cooperative, I found that the book made negotiation seem approachable and doable by me. Most of the topics in the book seem like they're pretty obvious in hindsight, but they were new to me. In particular, the book emphasizes that anyone can bargain well by being themselves; you don't need to be competitive or manipulative to succeed.

According to the author, the most important aspects to successful bargaining are a willingness to prepare, high expectations, patience to listen, and commitment to personal integrity.

This is the best negotiation book I've read - it really focuses on maximizing your position in a negotiation while maintaining relationships.

Communicating in an interactive way is what negotiation is all about. Negotiation is a vital skill that helps in building, maintaining and sustaining personal and professional relationships. It is not just about getting things done my way, rather how we equate with others in our lives. In order for negotiations to take place effectively, there has to be mutual flexibility and understanding. With negotiation being part of my daily life, it is important to become an effective negotiator to meet my goals in a subtle and agreeable way. This book was indeed a huge help. The author has done an excellent work on this book.

Read this as part of a class at work on negotiation. Richards' framework seems very solid. I've started using the basic principles in daily interactions, and while I can't report anything major, the system does seem to be good. Part of the system is that any negotiation is better if all involved know and follow the framework here. Everyone should end up with more, through tactics like trading items of unequal value. The later chapters in the book go into detail about specific circumstances like relationships, markets, and workplaces. Reading this has made me more conscious of how I interact with people, for the better.

Horribly written. The same info we've all seen since the dawn of time. Plus this guy needs an Editor ASAP. The poor grammar makes the book almost impossible to read. It sounds as if it's been google translated and there are no examples of his barely legible"tips" so I just kept re-reading the paragraphs for clues as to what on earth he meant until my eyes got tired enough to fall asleep & I dreamt of getting my wasted 15 minutes back This is free for a reason. Lame
