Nice easy read. She has settled for far less than she ever meant to. It's time to make some decisions. I'm not going to give this one away. Grab this sweet little read.

HASH(0x9b63abf4) out of 5 stars Realistic Plot and Characters Aug. 22 2015
By Mavvy Vasquez - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Never Settle is a recent short story release by the multi-talented J.C. Clarke. I have been familiar with Ms. Clark’s work for several years and have had the privilege of working with her in the past. One way in which she always impresses me is with the depth of the characters she brings to life. In this particular story, she introduces us to Johanna Nicholls, known to old friends and family as Jo. Johanna is a married stay-at-home mother in a rut. We follow Johanna through her normal routine caring for her two daughters and trying endlessly to please her critical husband, Mark.

When Johanna starts to remember the girl she once was, it opens her eyes to the reality of what her life has become. This shift in her perception is very relatable, as many women find themselves in similar positions. Mark’s emotional distance is also realistic, making Johanna’s feelings and motivations both natural and understandable. Likewise, the daughters’ relationship with their father is completely true to the circumstances. Even Johanna’s interactions with her parents and old friends lend themselves to the believability of the story as a whole. As I read this book, I was struck again and again by how it reflected both my own experiences and those of my close friends and family. Without revealing the plot too much, I can say that both Johanna’s mistakes and revelations echo real-life experiences, and I think that many readers will have a similar response.

Ms. Clarke continues to show her depth of understanding of how people’s emotions prompt them to behave and determine the choices they make. Her clear vision is reflected by the host of interrelationships that work together to bring Johanna’s world to life for the reader. Both her life as a housewife and her past in the country are made real by the characters that appear in each setting. My one complaint is that this story deserves more time and length. I found that certain moments were glossed over that could have benefitted from more exploration, and that interactions of the type that Ms. Clarke excels at bringing to life could have been given more depth and detail. Were Ms. Clarke ever to decide to expand this story into a full-length novel, I think that it would showcase her talents and give Johanna’s story the attention it deserves. However, even in this shorter format, the three-dimensional quality of the people in her world shines through.

HASH(0x9b8216c0) out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this book Aug. 22 2015

I absolutely loved this book. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. I found this book to be a very poignant and moving story. I also thought that the theme was a very important one to women's fiction. Not only is it a wonderful addition to the romance genre, but it's also a very empowering story for anyone who reads it. The title speaks for itself . It's a romance with a lesson: That life is what you make of it and that life is more challenging for those who settle, as opposed to those who fight for and choose their own way no matter what anyone around them thinks. J.C. Clarke is a wonderful storyteller and I think all of her books are important for people to read. This book is a must-read for anyone who is caught in a rut in life, and who want to find a way to live life the way they truly should.

Ah I really enjoyed this quick read. Johanna seems to be in a rut. When her parents have a heart to heart chat with her as they want their daughter back she realises she needs to get her life back. A few life changes seems her finding her own self. A friend years ago told her 'never settle'. She's found out that when she ignored them words she wasn't happy.

Can she find happiness again?
I found this to be a cute quick read that I really enjoyed.

HASH(0x9b5c2e58) out of 5 stars Sometimes in life good things must end Aug. 22 2015

I got a little teary eyed just reading this.

Mom's bugging for visits and darlin' daughters needing fed. Holly (the youngest daughter) is such a sweetie. Just reading this brought back memories of my Aunt and her husband. Sometimes in life good things must end!

Very good read...sad...but good :) Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Although a short read Never Settle is worth the time it takes to read. This is a story about taking chances to find who you truly are. I recommend this one to all, especially those looking for hope.
