I have gone just a bit over half of this book and I have to say it is really helping me to understand why I am the way I am, and that I should be aware of the decisions I make to help people, and when they don't accept my help in the way that I want them to.. to keep my cool and understand why and how to act. This is the first book I read and I recommend this for anyone struggling with the same situation. I am actually stuck between 2 family members that I constantly try to help.. a Mother who is an alcoholic and a Brother who is a recovering drug addict that falls off the wagon. I'm a young successful business women that uses my work to hide my feelings in and ignore what I feel.. I am just learning to listen to myself with this book. Thank you!

I've read lots of books in the Personal Improvement genre, and generally they have been good. This book, however, is a disorganized mess. It just seems like a diatribe about the author's dysfunctional life, and lots of times the solution provided is to just surrender to the divine one, God, or a higher power - so many times over that it borders on ridiculous. I am half way through and about to give up on this book and start reading my other purchase called "Where to Draw the Line," which is about setting boundaries.

If you are a recovering alcoholic or suffer from substance abuse problems, you might find this book useful and identify with the numerous rambling stories about these subjects. For those of us simply looking for practical advice about how to live our lives with less codependent behaviours in personal relationships, this book isn't for you, trust me. I got more useful advice from Googling "codependency" than from half this book - including better definitions of what codependency is!

I was interested in the subject matter but found the narration to be not to my taste and difficult to suffer through. I suggest people listen to a sample before going ahead to purchase. I wish I had simply gotten the kindle edition and had the google auto voice lady read it.

Really great book. I didn't read the first book and this book still helped me. All of the activities and quizzes are also really helpful.
