Product Description

Made from beans grown on the island of Madagascar, Madagascar Bourbon pure vanilla powder is an all-natural vanilla in a dry form and contains no sugar or alcohol. Its creamy, sweet flavor blends beautifully with a variety of foods. The powder dissolves quickly in hot or cold liquids and is ideal for adding to cinnamon, cocoa or coffee, fruit and cereal, and pancake, muffin, and bread mixes. It may also be used in colour sensitive products, such as icings and meringues. You can have fun (and delicious flavour) with the powder by shaking a little into your coffee, tea, or cola to make your own vanilla-flavored drink. Sprinkle it on top of French toast, pancakes, waffles, or a bowl of fresh fruit to liven up your breakfast fare.
One rounded teaspoon of vanilla powder equals one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
2½ ounce/70 gram shaker
Size: 2½ oz
Product of United States
Ingredients: Maltodextrin (a modified corn starch) and vanilla bean extractives
Allergens: Gluten free (Gluten-Free Certification Organization)
Kosher pareve (Chicago Rabbinical Council)

I really enjoy this product, it is the only vanilla powder I have found that is not laced with sugar. Living in Canada, I am unable to find it and typically buy it in Maine on an annual shopping trip, however was unable to find it last year so was very happy to find it on line. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and I enjoy it in many things, coffee, sprinkled on desserts etc. Highly recommend it.

HASH(0x9fb967f8) out of 5 stars Pure vanilla powder made of maltodextrin Aug. 1 2010
By Cat - Published on Amazon.com
I deducted one star for the "pure vanilla powder" name, and another for not being as aromatic as pure vanilla, so 3 stars. I read the description above and thought I scrutinized the wording well enough to detect any misdirection, so unfortunately I didn't get to the ingredients list. I have some Rodelle vanilla pods and the fragrance is amazing. Compared to any vanilla essence I've ever tried, it's like the difference between freshly roasted coffee beans and folgers. So I thought this "pure vanilla powder" would be the closest thing ([...] bucks for a little jar!), and easier to use than vanilla pods. Well it turns out it's a jar of essentially corn syrup solids laced with vanilla extract.

It's hard to avoid maltodextrin in pre-processed foods from the supermarket, but I'd rather not have it in my homemade foods too. It's a good thing that there's a powder version on the market, because it has its own kind of convenience, but it doesn't seem to me any more fragrant than regular extract, and unlike other reviewers' experience it seem like I do have to use more than liquid extract (also it cakes up terribly). Might be worth $3.50+shipping for the added convenience of the powder, but otherwise it's a pretty pedestrian product. Win some, learn some...

HASH(0x9e628798) out of 5 stars More than 50% is Maltodextrin -- That's "Pure"? May 17 2011
By Chas. M. - Published on Amazon.com

I should have read the reviewers' comments before making this purchase. When the label states "Pure Vanilla Powder", to me that means just that. Nope. As you will see after your purchase when you look at the jar, it has 2 ingredients. The first is Maltodextrin, and the second is Vanilla Bean Extractives. It tastes very good but you have to use a fair amount since it's been cut rather severely. The manufactures of this product should be honest and indicate that Maltodextrin is the primary ingredient.

HASH(0x9e6b4d20) out of 5 stars Deceptive Labeling April 3 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This is not "Pure Vanilla" as the label clearly states. As other reviewers have stated, this is mostly a corn derivative. Cardboard-like flavor. A real disappointment from a company with a long history of quality products. Maybe "history" is the right word here. Don't waste your money.

HASH(0x9f2e5ed0) out of 5 stars GMO Maltodextrin in a product labled Pure Vanilia, hmmmmmmm May 28 2011
By D. Wallace - Published on Amazon.com
This is basically misleading advertising. They label it pure, but have a genetically modified ingredient within. Maltodextrin is genetically modified corn sugar. GMO corn is one of the worst things you can put into your body according to my research, along with Canola Oil(no matter how they claim it's healthy), Aspartame, high fructose corn syrum, and other hydrogenated oils.

Shame on them for labeling this "Pure". You got my $10, but I will never buy their products again
