Product Description

Pivotal Third Album from the Germany-Based Euro-Dance Quartet. Includes the Title Track, "Rasputin", "Rivers of Babylon" and Seven More.

Amazon.ca

The unearthly brainchild of uber-producer Frank Farian, Boney M may be the most kitsch group in history, but they're so much fun that Nightflight To Venus--brim-full of the gloriously absurd and the outrageously inventive--is more than just a kitchen-foil-clad period piece. Their strengths were Farian's hammering disco rhythms and neat, icy production, and, most crucially, his totally deranged imagination. Deciding to write "Rasputin" is as bizarre an act as anything perpetrated by the mad monk himself; here, it sits alongside other hits and oddities with titles as good as "Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night", plus a selection of bizarrely chosen covers--"King Of The Road", a deadpan take on Neil Young's "Heart Of Gold" and "Painter Man", the ultra-hip 1960s oddity by The Creation, sped up and strapped to the most brutal 4/4 beat in disco history. --Taylor Parkes

By Peter Uys HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWER on Oct. 3 2002
Format: Audio CD
This varied album was released following their huge success with their biggest hit ever (Rivers of Babylon/Brown Girl in the Ring) and also contains the follow-up Rasputin, which was another chart hit and dancefloor filler. It is an album of prime Eurodisco but unfortunately the rest of the tracks do not quite live up to the promise of their other albums like Love For Sale. The title track starts with a vocoder-voice counting down to a launch into a sizzling piece of synth-pop and girlie vocals. Painter Man is a nice sing-along while King Of The Road and Heart Of Gold are passable interpretations of these classic songs. Voodoonight, Steppenwolf and Never Change Lovers are just fillers. I recommend their Greatest Hits album because it contains all their best work, including the best tracks from this album.

I must say like some other music fans that I was expecting something better for this amazing collection of Boney M. They have been my very favorite music group since they released their first L.P. Now that the complete collection is available I can see that it's a disappoint for all fans all over the world, because they collection was not recorded at 24 bits p/p, such as the compilations. This collection was more important than the compilations 'cause they feature all Boney M's songs. I also wanted that all the singles released were included in this collection (such as ABBA's). Another important thing is that the original sound of this cd's is not sound added or enhanced (such as the compilations) So what else can I say, there's nothing ledt for me or the other fans than: buying this poor quality collection, not buying this collections, waiting for the 24 bit collection or record my vinyls onto cd. I hope people of BMG see it and please, remove the text added on the covers !!! (now available...) Thank you. Manuel.

I grew up listening to two albums specifically, Boney M's Nightflight to Venus, and Oceans Of Fantasy. As I got older, Boney M was not "cool" anymore and I stopped listening to them. It wasn't until the early 90's, after their Boney M "Gold" release, that I got back into them. I was unaware that they had so many albums, let alone singles. I'm proud to say that thanks to Amazon.com I own every album that they've released, and I'll be attending their concert this coming March. Anyway, back to the review, it's as good now as it always was. A lot of credit is given to Liz and Marcia and Bobby, but if anyone just listened to the album, you'd know the best part of any Boney M album is the incredible percussion and infectious dance beats. As much as I've gotten all the albums, Nightflight and Oceans remain the best. And contrary to one reviewer, it's even better on CD. There may not be bonus tracks, nor lyrics inside, but they've never had those things on any of their albums. I'm happy they were re-released the way the were the first time around.
But if you're going to buy any Boney M albums, and you want the best, get this one.

I have to say I really like the music on this CD, most of the songs being really good and entertaining, and above all, a great reminder of my childhood days. First, I have to say, I expected a better sound quality of a remastered 70s album. The sound on this CD (as well as on the other Boney M CDs) is quite "flat" especially in comparison with other recordings of that era and it's NOT sounding better than the LP version of this album. I think the album was simply not made from the original master tapes. Proof would be (and I think all Boney M CDs were made of the same generation tapes) that on the CD "Oceans Of Fantasy" the abbreviated version of "Ribbons Of Blue" (which can definitely not be the MASTER tape, which is the long version) was used. Another complaint (also concerning all the Boney M CD releases) is this silly "Boney M The Complete Collection Now Available On CD" PRINTED on the covers and therefore "destroying" them, instead of using a removable sticker on the CD box. Why did they do that? Just very disturbing I find. Also why this print "Original Album Artwork" again PRINTED on the back side of the booklet. This is just not necessary and I never saw something like that elsewhere!! Talking of the booklet, this ISN'T a real booklet as the lyrics (which were contained with the LP releases) and the additional artwork is NOT included! Finally NO BONUS TRACKS (which is the least problem) were in included. To sum it up, the releases of these CDs were in my opinion rather an attempt to make "quick money" instead of an act of giving something interesting to the fans. Obviously the record company wants to "cash" again with later "better" releases ("original master recordings") but I tell you..I won't buy the CDs a second time!!
